Sure, but this was superficial at best and really nothing more than an attempt to help keep the city's promotion of The World Choir Games in the news. It all amounted to what... a mural painted by volunteers on the old CL&N vehicle approach? Hardly a controversy.

Even if Ford Field is allowed to be a venue and Detroit is awarded a bid, the scuttlebutt seems to be that they're lining it up for Atlanta-style renovations which provide a more intimate atmosphere and make soccer a priority on par with the football team. Paul Brown Stadium lacks a lot of those merits. Not to mention, a TIF district exists in Newport and there's a memorandum of understanding with the developer. If FC Cincinnati's options are playing in Cincinnati (but at PBS) or playing in Newport, but controlling dates, schedule, and revenue completely - I think they'll choose Newport.

It was blatant pandering right before election season. Considering that a Nate Livingston blog post accusing Chris of adultery has remained online for 10 years, I question Mr. Smitherman's true dedication to his wife during this illness. There's a story up there now too about Cranley's wife's family starting Gold Star.

Amy Murray is a Republican, a party I can't even consider these days, but I think she's done a rather fair job with the Streetcar despite being opposed to the project before. She's fairly level headed and mature.

Has anyone seen any polls or had any indications as to where they think this race is going to go? I've got a bad feeling we're about to get four more years of Cranley. I'm not too enthused about Simpson, but do see her as a better alternative to what's been happening these past four years. Nevertheless, her campaign seems to have been run rather poorly.

Got a call from a survey company the other night, it asked if the election were held today who would you vote for. Then it asked SEVERAL questions relating to the Children’s Deal. All seemed framed in a way to support Cranlyb(I.e. children’s helps sick children, did it look like Simpson was trying to shake them down?).

I would've rather seen them truly give a damn about transit at any point since 1973, but here we are.

Pretty sure they once had metal benches fixed to them and that the concrete was the support.

Yeah, I agree and frankly I'm surprised to see local governments scrambling to offer incentives for not a stadium, but a practice facility.

Almost every weekday, I either park in this development's garage or get off the bus right across the street. Just this week, I finally noticed the changing colors of the exterior as you walk by. I had always seen it as "brown." I thought I had come across some amazing, not well known discovery. Should've know to check UO first, haha. Appreciate everyone's insight here. I think the exterior adds something truly unique now, it's a nice touch. Hoping we can fill in the other surface lots soon. Walking past them every day makes downtown feel so suburban at times. If a stadium lands in Newport, I really think TANK could boost ridership on this with some tweaks. Market it as a way to connect that stadium with Covington and Downtown Cincinnati and have hours that actually help out people on weekend nights. With $1 a ride, these faux trolleys would be PACKED on match days.

Couldn't agree more about the rising tides lift all boats mantra, I feel like the Cov is starting to make some really positive momentum and my hope is that this stadium would be an impetus for Newport to take a more urban minded approach when connecting with Cincinnati. Totally forgot to mention the Jets/Giants/RBNY thing, but didn't want to get too into the weeds about that and get people all hot and bothered about how "Columbus will still say they're Ohio's team." For the record, only people in Columbus seem to care about The Crew.

^I was talking to someone last night who stated that Mapfre is somewhat "modular" in that it can be disassembled, moved, and rebuilt and that this was envisioned from the get go. Is that true?

It had i hallway connection from the garage & skywalk on the third floor and all the businesses were small glass fronted kiosk type stores. Lower floors were offices, short lived clubs and apparently at one point a food court in the mix. This sad sign is still up. How high off the ground is this and where could I buy some slide letters to create my own message here?

Since the potential stadium sites were announced in June, the thought of a stadium in Newport has drawn up passionate arguments on both sides of the issue (and river). I wrote an article today about where the stadium would go in KY, what incentives there might be, and if it really counts as "Cincinnati." Couple things I'd like to highlight: - A Newport stadium would likely be the catalyst to finally starting some sort of mixed-use development like Ovation. - I'd love to see riverboats shuttling people across the river like they do for Red's games. - The view would be spectacular. - Nearby Covington provides a lot of great spots for pre and post match activities. If it's anything like the last Willis movie to be filmed here, it most likely won't... it was pretty awful. City looked great though.

Interestingly enough, some UC students once proposed painting the Central Bridge, Taylor-Southgate's now dead predecessor, red. They also proposed a "rainbow" of bridges with lighting: http://enquirer.com/editions/2001/07/29/loc_debate_over_bridge.html I seem to remember this idea popping up more recently too when the Roebling was getting a fresh coat of paint circa 2010. There was also a proposal to put LED's that could rotate and put on a "light show," but it seems to have stuck with standard lights.

^Already at 20,000 for USWNT in September. That match will probably be a sell out or at least close to it. I'd really love for this to happen, but I'm skeptical. Hoping Rhinegeist maybe gives some sort of indication on the matter. At least a "no," would give a definitive answer.

I think this is an apt comparison, but not in all cases. Some MLS teams have a pretty dull atmosphere (the revs have passionate fans, but a cavernous stadium), while others enjoy a pretty rabid fan base in a great venue (Orlando/Toronto/ and especially Portland). MLS isn't going to consider Nippert. They've made that clear. If FCC wants in, they'll need a stadium deal. To that end, it's up to the Public/their elected officials to decide whether or not they support a deal when or if that deal occurs. There's a lot to consider.

^Definitely see where you're coming from. I'm just not sure with him. I feel like even if he was naive, he would've learned at some point or listened to what someone told him. In a recent interview on WVXU he claimed yet again that the Oasis Line was "ready to go." Either he truly believes that the rails are in good shape or he just keeps dangling carrots out there.
