  1. Love it. Have lots of family in the Fort Wayne area, will be heading back there for Thanksgiving. Downtown seems to be improving quite a bit, I hear the new baseball stadium is gorgeous.
  2. Still feeling confident about what will happen tonight...hoping it's a victory party for the "no" side. Not a sit around, drink and whine party.
  3. "There were no "I voted" stickers. I was mad." Thank God for the Enquirer!
  4. "Issue 9 Deserves to Fail, help defeat this "Poison Pill" tomorrow!" From: http://caast-usa.blogspot.com/2009/11/issue-9-deserves-to-fail-help-defeat.html
  5. That is really, really cool. I'm not a big soccer fan but I love just how many different minor league teams Cincinnati has had. I also find it annoying how quickly U.S. Bank Arena has gone downhill since it was renovated into "The Crown."
  6. Are you sure they were at U.S. Bank? I thought I had read they only played at the Gardens then moved to U.S. Bank with the clones when it became "The Crown" but for some reason the first season the silverbacks would've played there never got off the ground.
  7. ColDay! I love this one: http://www.urbanohio.com/UOThreads/2009/Pittsburgh/09OctPittsburgh13.jpg Great photos, good looking town, awful football fans. Did you ride the inclines?
  8. Who doesn't? Newport on the Levee has a lot to offer! Herschend Family Entertainment has a perfect safety record for all six of their duck tour operations and they even have a patent to build their own boats. Those accounts you read were of other companies. The Silverbacks moved there when it became "The Crown" but I don't think that season even got off the ground. There has never been a reported incident with the "Ride the Ducks" attraction in any city, much less a loss of life. Correct, the Herschend Family Entertainment "Ride the Ducks" tours have never had an incident, but other companies have: http://www.rbbi.com/folders/acc/arktour/arktour.htm
  9. So this tour has been open for over a year and there are similar ventures in other cities, but Ride the Ducks Newport is really great. Sherman and I hit it up last week on a beautiful evening. Here are some photos: You crash into the water at 25 m.p.h. and it really takes you by surprise. I found myself and my camera bag on the floor. - The "Belle of Cincinnati," flagship of B.B. Riverboats. - They even give you the opportunity to drive the boat/car. I had the opportunity to drive it as well, I just had to get in line behind all the little kids. - Worst arena ever. - You go up into the city center and see some cool stuff like QCS under construction (pictured above), Fountain Square, lytle park etc. In Newport you also hit up some cool landmarks: ...like this Goodyear tires store. Neat huh? What a beautiful night for a tour on the river: The ducks tour is a blast and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. Not a bad price either (15 bucks for adults). If you want to read a more thorough review or see some more pictures just check out today's QC/D update: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2009/10/storm-shores-of-cincinnati-with-capt.html Thanks for looking and next time you come to Cincinnati... RIDE THE DUCKS!
  10. Loving your photos Andre! I was in Chicago this weekend for a concert and got to ride the Red Line from Chicago to Addison station once drunk and once sober. The CTA was so convenient and great! Pardon the Facebook quality:
  11. Ah ok, I didn't know the Roebling couldn't handle them. Jake, do you know, if the cities of Newport/Covington wanted to add a modern streetcar line over to their respective areas, would they utilize the purple people bridge or just the southgate bridge? I wonder if the Roebling becomes pedestrian only if they could ever open up or renovate one of the towers to be able to accommodate an overlook or something.
  12. I wouldn't be too surprised to see that once the Central Riverfront Park is complete. Maybe run the streetcar across? If it became pedestrian only I wonder if they'd keep the same grating in place or pave over that somehow?
  13. Mr. Lewis summarized the current lack of an amendment like Issue 9 as "Having an abortion without discussing the pregnancy first." An awkward silence followed this remark as many, this author included, wondered how that comment was supposed to reflect a reason to vote "Yes on 9." From the UC debate last Thursday: http://thephonyconey.blogspot.com/2009/10/report-from-10-15-09-richardlewis.html
  14. I think CAAST may have beaten them to it: http://caast-usa.blogspot.com/2009/10/tom-luken-doesnt-want-anything-to.html
  15. I don't think anyone ever said that without the streetcar the city will "never" be able to attract talent, they were simply making the case that a modern streetcar system as well as improved intermodal public transit options will help bolster that attraction for young talent. While I certainly disagreed with Mr. Lewis who represented the We Demand a Vote coalition during the debate, he never equated the streetcar to Hitler or Stalin. He was making a comparison that the notion of city council approving the streetcar plan without a public vote was somehow similar to that of an authoritarian dictator.
  16. Help spread this: "What else you're rejecting." http://caast-usa.blogspot.com/2009/10/20-more-days-to-vote-no-on-issue-9.html
  17. I love the paint job on that streetcar. Imagine here in Cincinnati, a bright red streetcar like that with a big white "C" Reds logo painted on it. Or an orange one with black stripes painted on it for the Bengals.
  18. What I believe happened was the Detroit City Council ordered an emergency demolition order. The building's owner then cited the fact that the building is on the national historic registry and threatened litigation. I do as well. Can you imagine if we hadn't saved our Union Terminal? Thanks for checking them out man! If anyone is interested, I posted the photos and report from the second day here: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2009/10/summer-vacation-in-detroit-part-2.html Here's some photos: No scary run ins with cops and fellow explorers on this day, but Seicer and I had to fend off some nasty mosquitoes who wouldn't let me stand still to pee when we were in that zoo: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2009/10/summer-vacation-in-detroit-part-2.html Thanks for looking!
  19. Ugh, I hate Boston and the Red Sox, but what a beautiful city. Some really nice photographs here, you had great lighting. Seeing the comparisons between Boston's Red Line stations and Cincinnati's subway makes me even more annoyed about how we missed out on a great opportunity.
  20. How does the Riverwalk look at night?
  21. The most recent photo is breathtaking. They're all great. This thread has me so pumped to go to Chicago in a few weeks.
  22. ^Andre, no need to apologize, thanks for adding the information and for giving out the warning. It's good to hear that MCS may be getting some restoration work but with it's current state it seems like it's nothing more than a shell. I can't see how that thing can be renovated although I'd like to see it renovated. Then again, I'm no architect or designer. I agree with you, Detroit is not lost for good. Eventually, there will be a Renaissance. For now, it's just an absolute marvel.
  23. haha, mind if I use that quote for something? Ink, you beat me to it, this thread is great! I drive by this crap every thursday night and combined with the I-75 construction traffic, it screws up my commute royally. I was planning on doing a QC/D article on this and Ikea/West Chester. I haven't even been here yet and already you got me hating it.
