  1. Everyone seems to like the OTR and Clifton shots the best, I'll try to recreate those on the next flight, hopefully with better weather and beautiful fall colors.
  2. Still no luck on the sleeping habits, hence why i'm still awake at 5:25 AM Thanks Rando, yeah they are obsessed with food, but the food there sure is good. Phily Cheesesteaks, I know what I'm making for dinner tonight!
  3. I agree, I think the Clifton one is my favorite. I love those neighborhoods and from the sky they really look nice. Reminds me of the movie Airborne. Yeah, I'm hoping to get back on a good sleeping schedule today, be careful if you check out Peter's, it's Private Property with some mean dogs. They sure do: More abandoned water park photos.
  4. Hey everyone, I can not sleep. I keep doing this thing where I go to class, come home and crash for 2 hours, then I'm stuck awake all night. So I was going through old photos and backing them up. Came across these, thought you guys might find them interesting. On a cold, dreary December day a coworker and I went flying with his father. Our main goal was to try and photograph some rumored construction going on at Kings Island Amusement Park at the time, but there was nothing. I was able to convince them to let us go over Cincinnati. This is some times particularly tricky due to traffic from Lunken and CVG but we prevailed none the less. So here are some shots from cincy and the surrounding area: Disclaimer: These photographs were taken with my Olympus DSLR, it is a great camera but not the best in low light situations so these pics are kind of crappy and it was a nasty day, so bear with me. I'm going flying again on November 8th with my new camera and hopefully nice weather. -Peter's Cartridge Company, Kings Mills. -The Beach Waterpark, note the people skating. -Coney Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati. -Riverbend -New National City Pavillion under construction -Carew Tower -A Gritcinati landmark. -Folks skating at Fountain Square. -U.S. Bank Arena and serpentine wall. Home of a winning Cincinnati team. -Great American Ballpark home of The Reds. -PBS -Ft. Washington Way -P and G Towers. -Scripps Howard Building. -A nasty Cincinnati day. -Clifton Neighborhoods. -Cincinnati, I love you. Please pray for good weather and flying conditions on November 8th, when I get to go up with a new Canon camera and 200mm lens! In case anyone is interested, my website Queen City Discovery now has an email list where you can be notified by email when there is an update since I don't get to update it that often. If you'd like to sign up here is the link: QCD email list sign up
  5. No homework tonight and was going through some old photos backing them up so I thought I'd share these. These are photographs I took on a trip in December over Winter break to Philadelphia while on my way to New Jersey. My dad's brother lives in Somerset, New Jersey. Normally we drive with how costly flying can be but since it was only me and him and he had a bunch of frequent flying miles from work we decided to hope on a flight on Southwest. Living in the suburbs of Cincinnati we normally hop on 275 and head down to CVG, but for this trip we were flying out of Columbus. After about an hour drive, a stop for breakfast burritos at McDonalds we parked our crappy van and hopped on a shuttle bus to the airport. I've been in quite a few major airports since 9/11, well accustomed to the security, searches, and such however at Columbus it seems all the TSA employees working security are armed with a trusty cell phone to fight terrorism. I don't think half of the morons there were paying attention to security but text message conversations instead. -Our Southwest 737 at Columbus. -With General Electric engines. Southwest Airlines has this new boarding process where your boarding pass has a number and section on it. You then line according to this ticket at the gate. This prevents people from lining up super, super early to get the "best" seats. By doing this they allow you to board the plain with less hassle since you aren't assigned a specific seat. The system actually works out really well and gets everyone on board with less hassle. -We left Ohio where the weather was dismal, cold, and depressing. -And arrived in Philly 50 minutes later where it was warm and 50 degrees! -Airline peanuts are wonderful. -Careful what you put in your bags because I don't think the guys handling it care much about being gentle. These bags fell off of a cart in Philadelphia. Before going to New Jersey to see the family my dad and I wanted to see some historical "touristy" locations in Philadelphia. -Leaving the airport, heading downtown. Independence historical park: -Line for the Liberty Bell. -Crowding around the Liberty Bell. -Liberty Bell. Liberty Bell. -An original Philadelphia cobblestone street. -Independence Hall Plaza. -Independence Hall. -This is a statue commemorating Commodore John Barry who is known as "The Father of America's Navy". Some of you know I really like photographing abandoned buildings, we came across this abandoned Steam Plant: But my dad wasn't really interested in trying to go in. In New Jersey we ate New York style Pizza, watched the New York Jets epic fail, spent time with family and my uncle gave me this camera that he no longer uses: We drove back to Philly to catch our flight. In my bag I had a bottle of hot sauce which was given to me as a gift. As we were waiting in a long line for security they opened up a few more lanes, a TSA employee ushered us over and glanced at our boarding passes, telling us we could get to our terminal through his lanes. We went through, they opened my camera bag and saw the hot sauce and said I couldn't bring it on unless it was in a zip lock bag. My dad noted that at both CVG and Columbus and every other major airport he had been to they gave them out at security. The employee said they didn't give them out here and that I had to throw the bottle away or go find a bag. I just told them to throw it away as we had to catch the flight. After we got through security we realized they had sent us down the wrong terminal, we had to exit, go back to security, find the right lane and go through security once again. As I picked up my camera bag I noticed something. . . . .zip lock bags being given out in this terminal. I was pretty pissed, we barely made the flight, and when we landed in Columbus: It took nearly 3 hours to crawl in our van down I-71 south in the snow. Overall the trip was worth it, I love Philadelphia and loved seeing my family! Philly is a great city, I'm thinking of applying for an internship there. Thanks for viewing the photos!

Anyone going to the season opener against those losers from Dayton on October 25th?
  7. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the company or individuals who own and/or are restoring this particular riverboat in Cincinnati. Seicer and I were wandering around at 3 in the morning taking night photos when we crossed the Roebling bridge to Covington to get some shots of the cincy skyline. We came across a riverboat sitting in the river and Seicer mentioned that someone or some group was working on restoring it but thats all the information he knew. I was wondering if maybe anyone on here knew any information about it, I think it could make an interesting subject for an assignment. It's located just across the river in Covington at the East base of the Roebling bridge: That's about where we were standing, although I think this photo is a bit old, those other boats weren't there during the last weekend in September. Thanks to Google Street View here are some photos of the boat: If anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!
  8. http://www.robertpence.com/oh_youngstown/20080821-0027.jpg Is that Uhaul building abandoned?

Great photographs thanks for sharing! I wish someone would do Cincinnati in the 90's. Cinergy Field, old Fountain Square . . .
  10. Thanks Rando! And everyone for viewing, gonna try to get into the regular hospital soon. . . Seicer?
  11. Originally opened in 1874, the Athens State Hospital saw its last patients in 1993. Today Ohio University owns the property and has partially renovated the hospital into office space and an art museum. In the hills above the small South Eastern Ohio city lie a building reminding it's visitors of a history of disease and mental illness in the state of Ohio: Little know though and often assumed to be the "mental asylum" is a small outbuilding above the main hospital. At one time Tuberculosis was so bad in Ohio it became a state mandate for each county to have its own hospital to treat the disease. Athens County had one build near its state hospital in 1924. Today it is abandoned: Children's Ward: Children's Ward: If you'd like to read more about the history of this building check out www.queencitydisco.com I'm going to try and do some photos of the city of Athens too at the request of some users here soon.
  12. Of course, but you can not judge Fairfield by Route 4 alone.
  13. Hey now, what's wrong with Fairfield Rando? Talked to Phil today, very little work has been done since these photos were taken, they have been extremely busy. Hopefully we'll finally see an opening soon.

I am fundamentally opposed to them building this skyscraper. Every time I watch Family Matters now the skyline won't be correct and it will remind me that the show ended a long time ago and that there is no Carl Winslow or Steve Urkle . . . . :(
  15. You should have called, you were right by my house!
  16. I've been back in Athens for two weeks. I come home every other weekend to work. I was supposed to stay in Athens this weekend but I needed a "general news event" to photograph for a school assignment. I thought "what better than Oktoberfest Zinzinnati?" I had never been before, I don't particularly like Athens, I like Cincinnati, I like photographs, so 3 hours back to home it was. Got in on Friday, met family for dinner and was gonna call it a night before spending the whole next day at Oktoberfest when Seicer called. We decided to meet up around 11:00 at night downtown and do some shooting: -We really wanted to check out the Roebling Bridge at night. The Roebling Bridge proved to be a tough subject at night. Once we got to the Cincinnati side we went down to a boat landing along some path bordering the river and found a great view of the bridge at night. However, the squatters, tents, and barrel fires made us a bit uneasy so we decided it might not be the best place to hang out. We wanted to check out more bridges so as we made our ways around the city we got a new idea: Lets go Urban Exploring. Except, instead of the typical exploring of abandoned places, lets explore an urban environment. Lets explore the highways: - Interstate 75 heading North to Dayton. -To the left Interstate 75 and on the right the entrance to 75 from 4th street. -Red = 75 North, White = 75 South -75 North. -75 North and South, Union Terminal in the background. -Bridges into Cincinnati. After exploring a bit of the highways we headed on down to Fountain Square to check out Oktoberfest set up. They had a live feed going at 1 in the morning, can you spot Seicer and I? The next day I went back to the Roebling to get some photos to compare with my few night shots: -This is the view we tried to get the night before but it's not the best place to hang out at during the night. -Robeling and BB Riverboat. - Yeah. . . I got down to Oktoberfest right about 10 A.M. -Despite all the awesome food being cooked I ended up having lunch at Skyline. -Best ribs ever from Walt at the Shiska Haus! Ever heard of The Naked Cowboy? -Naked Cowboy's ass and a laughing kid. -More Naked Cowboy. -Kids playing at Fountain Square. -Rides by the P and G towers. -Never seen so many white people at Government Square. Seicer called and wanted to meet up so I took a break from the festival to roam the city. I had planned to leave a bunch of times throughout the day but kept finding something else to photograph (Oktoberfest is pretty boring when you are 19 and can't purchase alcohol). -Mt. Adams. -Big Mac Bridge. -Mt. Adams. Fun Fact: My uncle used to have an apartment atop that building and somewhere I have a video of when we watched Cinergy Field implode from up there. Seicer and I headed back around the city: We decided to check out the Riverfront Transit Center: I gotta be honest, I was surprised there were buses down here. Walking down the stairs we joked about needing flashlights, once we got down there we decided to walk around and we were stopped by a voice over a loud speaker "Excuse me, if you did not exit a bus you need to exit immediately, the transit center is NOT FOR PUBLIC USE." Puzzled, we looked for someone to ask about who got to use it then but couldn't find an employee. As we made our way up the stairs we heard the voice again "Thank You." So if the taxpayers funded this thing, which seems to never be used, then why doesn't the public get to use it? Can we just leave the buses to Government square and put some light rail down here? -It looks nice, but seems useless. At nightfall we went back to the festival for some night shots: Thanks for reading and checking out the photographs, www.queencitydisco.com has been updated in case anyone is interested.
  17. Hahaha I love the taps photo. At one point Saturday night Seicer and I were trying to get photographs of the rides spinning around and I knelt down into something wet. In the gutters on the sides of the streets there was nothing but beer flowing towards the drains, it was really disgusting, yet very sad to see all that beer go to waste. :( Looking forward to the rest Cincyimages!
  18. Ended up going home this weekend for Oktoberfest and stopped by Jungle Jims on my into town, monorail hasn't moved in a week so I don't think they have it open to customers yet, I'll email Mr. Adams and see what he has to say. He mentioned hopefully having it opened in October when they hold a party at their banquet center for all the youth soccer teams they sponsor.
  19. Was down there with Seicer on Saturday, I'm pretty sure that lawn was roped off and people were supposed to stay off, although there wasn't really anyone around enforcing that. Is the lawn open to the public on regular days? Oktoberfest was a blast to photograph, although not as much fun when you're not 21. :(
  20. I'll be down there saturday, anyone else going down?

I like how it is a nice center piece to the skyline, whereas in Cincy QCS will kind of "off set" the balance. Kind of too modern and sticks out too much in that city though, this and the Freedom Tower look a little too outlandish for me.
  22. ^Thanks! Google search perhaps? Most businesses have websites. I tried Google searching however all I could find was some info on the Rhodes Tower that seemed really out of date.
  23. Oh, got my months mixed up, haha sorry.
