Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
The Nati Life replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionSo after Oktoberfest on Saturday night, I went out to some of the bars in the Fountain Square district. :drunk: It seemed that the bars - McFadden's, Lodge Bar and Cadillac Ranch - were for the most part the same. In order for it to be a vibrant district, we need something else there, but I couldn't put my finger on it. :wtf: I would llike to see something local there, or a bar with local ties. What else is needed? What would you like to see there? BTW, I'm going to post this topic on my blog later, so check there for discussion too!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I must say I share some of the pessimism of the Council (I can't believe I'm saying this!). I hate to see further delay, but what are we to do if Carter just up and decides to plop a 30-story tower right next to the Freedom Center? I don't think that they would, but something along those lines could theoretically happen. Oversaturation of the market could be devastating to the Downtown market. Filtering is one thing, a natural process, but a sudden influx of major class A space could be very damaging. Not to mention the design dynamics... we want a seemless transition from the Banks to Downtown, not an extension of it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
Seems strange to me. Are these theatres really going to be that big of a draw that it would warrant taking up possible retail space in order to build them? I don't know. I just don't know many people that really go to these theatres (except for some Playhouse in the Park fans). Is no one else concerned that we could have some embarrassingly empty theatres that will have no effective reuse when they are abandoned?

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
The Nati Life replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot sure how I feel about the 5/3 signage. Smart on their part, but I had hoped for something different. In some of the old renderings there was lighting with the word "Cincinnati" on it. It would be great if there was a clock or something, but hey, can't have everything the way I want it... at least it's colorful. Speaking of color, I hope they have some color incorporated with Via Vite. I'm sure they'll have some flowers or hanging baskets or something else. Looks good otherwise.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
The Nati Life replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI spoke with one of the PMs for the Michigan Terrace project, and he said that Starbucks realized they couldn't compete with the local shop a few doors down (forget the name??). Funny, that seems to run converse to everything we hear about Starbucks running out the Mom & Pops As for Fountain Square, I would love to see a Sitwell's or Lookout Joe rather than chain stores like Starbucks or even Caribou.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
The Nati Life replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI actually think it helps tie the screen to the rest of the structure a bit more. Before it was just sort of detached and not very integrated . . . in my opinion. Agreed... I would like to see some illuminated signage with dynamic lighting... i.e. Times Square. It just adds some vibrancy to the area, and may complement the 5/3 facade well. Ooh, very exciting!

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
The Nati Life replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionBy the way, the Square was jumpin' before last night's Bengals game! I went to the game, but would definitely loved to have watched from the Square. Did anyone go and watch? What was it like? Any pics?

Yeah, G-d forbid you be able to access the square from the street!

Cincinnati: The New Fountain Square - Neon Lights, Movies & People O My!
Let's finally put the "It's no different from the old Square" or the even more ignorant "It looked better before" myths to bed, shall we? Before: After: I guess pictures are worth a thousand words. So to all those who still liked the old square better, make a rational argument or STFU!!! :bang:

Cincinnati: The New Fountain Square - Neon Lights, Movies & People O My!
I guess I didn't think the Enquirer building would have a view of the Square... won't it be obstructed by the 5/3 bldg? Not the one I'm talking about, however...

Cincinnati: The New Fountain Square - Neon Lights, Movies & People O My!
Way ahead of you 5chw4r7z... although I am hearing whispers of a new development in the area that is worth holding out for... :-o I have always thought the same thing! One of the old renderings of the 5/3 facade had a news ticker spanning the entire frontage. I think that's a little (read: a lot!) excessive, but a ticker or ads or something dynamic and ecclectic (even ads) would help to make the video board area to look less out-of-place. :speech:

Actually, they change pretty quickly. That's one thing I would change... I would have them slowly fade from one color to the other, and not as frequently. But if that's the only beef I have with the new Square, I'll take it! I know it, I can't wait! (I also can't wait until there are more apartments/condos nearby so I can snatch one up!) 8-)
