  1. Nice cool spring day, caught this near Boaz Cafe on Lorain ten min ago.
  2. ^One of the buildings close to the corner of W. 25th and Detroit, on the river-side of W. 25th. The demo is making way for the new park and much needed stabilization of the river.
  3. ^^GREAT thing.
  4. Took this shot last night... I like how the new construction adds to the mid rise from this angle.
  5. The one thing I like about this phase of the project is that they do look like the homes that used to line the East Bank close to the mouth of the river over 100 years ago... sort of like a back-to-the-future type of thing. I can’t find the pic but it’s out there somewhere, showing homes along the East Bank pretty much in the same location as this phase being built.
  6. I’m ready for The Lumen Part 2... hopefully the next tower happens soon!
  7. ^I think The Pit would be as good of a location as we could get for a jail to be close to a rebuild of the courthouse tower on the park next door. It would be pretty much out of view of everything as well... unless the Port ever moves. That and it would be pretty visible the eight times a year or so that we have home games. But so what... the land has been vacant my entire life. If there was something that could be put there over the years, it would have been built by now.
  8. ^The Pit? It's isolated enough from everything else and could actually make sense.
  9. Took this yesterday while out and about... this project is coming along nicely!
  10. ^Are you proposing transporting prisoners on the Red Line? Do other cities transport prisoners on their rail transit to-and-from court? I don’t know the answer, so I’m asking seriously. I also don’t know if there could be more of a potential turn-off for people than having to sit next to prisoners in orange jumpsuits, on the Red Line. RTA would have some serious work ahead of them to repair any potential damage to their image, which sucks among some in the general public anyways. “Come board the Red Line, where prisoners are taken to court for sentencing”.
  11. We MAY actually still end up with something like that. I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that the Superblock plan was to be completed in stages. @KJP's article mentioned SHW is looking for developers to build on the future development lots along W. 6th. We could actually end up with something like the Superblock plan... just with a large garage instead of an office building (at least for now). There's no telling if SHW would plan on building on top of their garage- but if this is indeed their next "100 year home", they may choose to do so in the future. I'm not too pressed at this point about the plans without renderings from SHW. Once they release renderings, we'll have more to chew on. Until then, I can't fret over it.
  12. There are actually multiple elevator shafts in the court tower. Three are used by the public, one by elected judges, jury members and court personnel, one service elevator, and one elevator used to transport people from the jail directly to the court rooms. It might be simpler to just start from scratch if there was a developer who was serious about the site. I would question how serious, however.
  13. ^Without a doubt another tower could be built on the same block. I would guess the police station and jail could be torn down in order to make space for a new tower. One of the main reasons why I’ve felt building another Justice Center in another location is a bad idea is that the current Justice Center takes up an entire block of downtown- and that we may be replacing one parking lot for another if the current Justice Center was torn down in its entirety. I wouldn’t be so sure about any potential development prospects for residential or office uses for the block. The Parking Lot District lot which is about to become a 1,000 car garage for SW is literally just one block southwest of the city jail, and it’s taken over 40 years to get that far. That doesn’t bode well for W. 3rd and Lakeside, IMO. In my perfect world, the police station and jail are demolished, and a new court tower takes the space. The footprint of the jail and police station combined seems larger than the current court tower’s footprint so there would be the chance that the new tower would be shorter. However, we wouldn’t be losing one block of downtown for another, and that seems like a win. Also, with the new court tower being on the current site of the current Justice Center, all of the law firms around are still within walking distance. Win-win.
  14. ^I would need to know if the amount of jobs includes the jobs which were "added" due to the slight bounce back in business after the initial shutdown. The BLS numbers, no matter how off they've been in the past, doesn't show job growth for the region last year.
  15. It’s. About. Time. So much of the inner east-side had been hallowed out, yet there are still areas which have solid residential homeowners who have been in the neighborhoods for generations. im looking forward to the rebirth of Hough, Glenville, Fairfax, and hopefully both North and South Collinwood in the near future. E. 185th is still pretty viable and is probably one of the only true commercial strips which survived for this long on the entire east-side.

I don't think they'll be able to pick up much firepower for Drummond... so I'm beginning to think the tank is in, yet again, for the Cavs this season.
  17. Relax- you should read through this thread a bit. @KJPalready addressed SW in the post Covid world.
  18. ^^That was my take as well. Also, there’s the chance the Parking Lot District gains more retail uses through further construction on the SW site along St. Clair, Superior, and along W.6th.
  19. Of the buildings around our reconfigured and rebuilt Public Square, I was hopeful that this new addition would add to the pedestrian activity quite literally in the center of the city. Kinda let down by all of this- boxy tower, one storefront on Frankfurt and W. 3rd, and no interaction with the public at the former Jacobs Lot on Public Square... the one tidbit about it bringing even more jobs, now 3,500 to Public Square is a plus. I’m not as bothered about it stretching into 2025 but... dammit.
  20. ^Yes. As much as E.C. has depopulated, the city still has some residential areas with majority homeowners who care about their community. In contrast, the Opportunity Corridor has acres and acres of vacant formerly industrial land, which would be somewhat of a buffer between the residential areas and whatever would be proposed there.
  21. Yeah... that’s not a good look for Budish, at all. As if the folks in EC don’t have enough problems as it is.
  22. This is the Coca-Cola museum. Even with a potential 600-footer behind it across W. 3rd, I just couldn't see something THIS generic on Public Square on the former Jacobs lot. I love that SH is staying put an investing in the city and the potential for a 600-footer on W. 3rd/Superior; but I would need to see the plans worked out some more before getting too excited about this project again.
  23. ^The suburban McMansions were built at the time in an effort to bring back the black middle class by Fannie Lewis. I don’t think there’s a fear or aversion to dense housing in the neighborhood because it still exists, depending on what street you’re on. Some of the side streets close to Rockerfeller Park are relatively intact and still dense.
