Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
Please let me know I'm not the only one who gets a bit irritated when I see this... is it just me or does seeing spray paint on the roads bother anyone else? This stuff takes a looooong time to come up on its own. Brand new road-graffiti up and down E. 6th between Lakeside and St. Clair today:

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
A quick take looking at the numbers as they show the overall economy grew by only 0.9% for the month of October... 1) Our Manufacturing sector looks to be in recession, showing six months of negative growth. This will impact our employment numbers at one point or another unless other sectors take up the slack. Speaking of which... 2) Our Education and Health sector is employing close to 100,000 more people than our manufacturing sector. I know we love to push the "Blue-Collar-Work-Ethic"... but when does the word get out about this officially being an Eds and Meds town? 3) The Information sector has been in decline since 2002 and shows no signs of slowing. The sector now only employs roughly 13,000, down from 20,000 in 2002. This is another drag on the local economy which is being overlooked. 4) Our Professional and Business Services sector now employs close to 50,000 more than our Manufacturing sector, and has grown by 30,000 jobs since the 2002 recession. 5) There are roughly 4,000 less people employed in our Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector than at this point just last year, though the numbers look to be a bit more volatile than other sectors. Pluses and minuses, but overall growth (to be taken with a grain of salt with the BLS... I'll never get over the revision they did when we were showing 2% growth overall for the year which was revised to 0.9%).

Kinda looks like things are still in play and this is a bit of poker being played by SW, Bedrock, and the Westin/Jacobs site.

^That's good to hear- I hope you guys can push these along and get action. Are any of the owners of these buildings currently on community control or have pending cases in Court?- Cleveland: Slavic Village: Development and News
Call Building and Housing for inspections against the blighted properties (216-664-2282; be address specific). Then push for the City Law Department to prosecute. Individual property owners can be fined $1000 a day for each day out of compliance, along with a max time of incarceration of 18 months. Businesses who own blighted properties can be fined $5,000 a day for each day out.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
https://www.tmz.com/2019/11/15/myles-garrett-helmet-attack-no-police-investigation-steelers-browns/ 8:56 AM PT -- The NFL has suspended Myles Garrett without pay for the remainder of the 2019 season -- including playoffs -- as a result of the helmet attack. Here's the NFL's statement ... "The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns organizations have each been fined $250,000 and three players -- Cleveland's Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi, and Pittsburgh's Maurkice Pouncey -- have been suspended without pay for their actions in Thursday night's game." "Garrett has been suspended without pay indefinitely -- at a minimum for the remainder of the regular season and postseason -- and must meet with the Commissioner's Office prior to a decision on his reinstatement. He was also fined an additional amount." "Garrett violated unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct rules, as well as fighting, removing the helmet of an opponent and using the helmet as a weapon." New proposed development in Slavic Village- the Slavic Village Gateway, was before the CPC today. Looks like a decent infill project with some nice density along a main thoroughfare:- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
As far as being able to attract talent- I wouldn't put this city down so quickly... I was looking for updated stats on the college educated population change (which has been 1-to-1 in recent years for those who have moved to the region with college degrees vs. those without degrees who have left the region). This article is going on 4 years old, but as stated above- the region may be able to hold its own. Cleveland ranks among top 10 U.S. cities for population growth of college-educated millennial residents Downtown Cleveland experiences 76 percent increase in residents aged 25-34 since 2000 EMBARGOED UNTIL 1.19.16 AT 7:30 A.M. EST Download The Fifth Migration: A Study of Cleveland Millennials CLEVELAND – In a first-of-its-kind in-depth look at millennials in Northeast Ohio, a Cleveland Foundation-commissioned study by The Center for Population Dynamics at Cleveland State University reveals Cleveland is eighth in the nation in the growth rate of college-educated millennial residents aged 25 to 34. And Cleveland’s millennial residents – those born between 1982 and 2000 – are leading a rapid ‘fifth migration,’ the term for the re-urbanization of metro areas nationally, here in Cleveland. The study, “The Fifth Migration: A Study of Cleveland Millennials,” reveals that while Cleveland has experienced a millennial migration since 2008, it was during the growth experienced from 2011 to 2013 for which Cleveland tied for eighth in the nation (along with Miami and Seattle) in the percent increase of college-educated millennials. The study also shows Cleveland ranked eighth nationally in the concentration of highly-educated millennials in the workforce (those with a graduate degree). Beyond this so-called ‘brain gain,’ the statistics show a higher concentration of millennial residents overall, regardless of education. In 2013, 24 percent of Greater Cleveland’s population was comprised of millennials (ages 18-34), up from 20 percent in 2006. ^That's the pic I remember seeing, too young to remember seeing the buildings themselves. Can't wait to see what SW comes up with for the site; the impact on downtown and Cleveland's perception to both those who live here and those who don't will be priceless.- Cleveland: Random Development and News
^More than likely- good catch!- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
^^Though the easiest presumption to make is the space would be converted to apartments, with the cost of construction limiting new office buildings here I wouldn't be surprised if whoever the new new owner is actually renovates at least part of the building as offices. I believe the building is 900,000 sqft.- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Any one else notice that there hasn't been a peep out of the local news regarding KJP's SHW revelations... it's been two days now!!- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Well, whatever the decision is- it will surely impact Cleveland for years to come. @KJP- Thanks for all of the work you've put into keeping us informed. Youre the best!!!- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
^I think they could still request a variance if the overlay doesn't match with what they're trying to accomplish... how much the City would push back (if at all) would have to be seen. Variances which are supported by Council members (in this case Kerry McCormack) are usually granted.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
2 and 6, with this level of talent, is unacceptable. The team could've stuck with Greg Williams if this was what we had to look forward to.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
^Unfortunately that looks true, much more so with each passing week.- Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
Nonexistant at this point- though my guess would be around the Crawford and Hough Ave. intersection back in the day. That doesn't include the intersection of Euclid and E. 105th, which was pretty much the center of it all on the east-side at one point though technically just outside of Hough's boundaries.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
9-7 this year vs 7-8-1 last year with allllllll of the extra firepower would be a disappointment, at least to me. Though 9-7 is probably realistic, I'm hoping they win every game for the rest of the season and that the penalties and turnovers will be finally be addressed. They're just playing sub-par with all of the talent this team has, and much of it points to coaching. I'm not saying get rid of Kitchens, but the penalties and turnovers- that's just undisciplined play and points to the coach.- Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
^I would hope so- it's listed as an investment property which would more than likely include asbestos abatement. For $1.9 at 160 suites that comes to $11,875 per unit before any needed repairs. I assume that requiring HUD experience means the property would have to be federally subsidized? Hopefully the energy continues and the building is picked up for development.- Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
A third new development (also mentioned in the University Circle thread) on Ansel and Hough Ave. was presented to the CPC in April; again, this development blends with University Circle but is solidly within Hough. It's currently under construction: - Cleveland: Slavic Village: Development and News
