Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Cuyahoga County’s high taxes prompt discussion about consolidation By Peter Krouse, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio – A study commissioned by the Greater Cleveland Partnership shows the tax burden is significantly higher per capita in Cuyahoga County than in 10 other urban counties competing for some of the same businesses. The new research also suggests that our overall taxes will grow even more burdensome, and the region will become even less competitive, in part because of the redundancies of a Balkanized political landscape. Based on those findings, the GCP, one of the nation’s largest chambers of commerce with more than 11,000 members, is calling for a region-wide discussion of how to make our future more prosperous. Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I don't know how much faith anyone can have in the BLS numbers for Cleveland anymore since last year's revision... however, the March numbers are out. Best March since '02, at least for now.

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
Don't mind me, but what's a re-let? Great to hear there is this much interest in the office component of the development.

Cleveland: Population Trends
With the east-side still in free-fall, I doubt the census estimates are off by that much. The way the region saves itself is through job retention and creation, and the proper training of the public for those jobs. That's it.

^I think many fans feel that way, regardless of how much the Dolans have spent the last two years.

Cleveland: Glenville: Development and News
I'm all for people who have lived for generations in a neighborhood to improve their lives and their homes collectively, but I have to agree to an extent on gentrification. I would invite anyone to take a drive down Union and E. 117th. The street is abandoned except for maybe five families at the most. Many of the standing structures are four-unit structures which look like regular houses from the street. You couldn't give a house away in this area of town- and I challenge anyone to find a single for-sale sign on ANY sidestreet off of Union, or Kinsman for that matter.

WOW. Check out the downtown section- all of the projects we've talked about are listed there, including the Parking Lot District site.

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
What would need to happen to move the docks to E. 9th? If it's a dredging issue, would it be a meeting with the army corps of engineers? There's nothing at the W. 3rd street dock for people not from Cleveland to have a glimpse at and say, "wow". It's more like "...oh", and perception is everything.

I couldn't see the city buying the lot; the sale of the lot would be several million dollars, and Its way too easy for anyone to point to the many things the city could do with the money instead.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
It appears we could get it wrong all day from the data which is published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Data being revised to 1% growth overall when compared to just last week being above the national employment growth rate for over half of last year? Something's wrong here. If there's a positive, we're up 10,000 jobs from this time last year, even with the revised records.

^The Spencers next to the Dollar Store closed? Its another shoe store. I haven't paid attention recently- it wouldn't surprise me though.

Shoe Depot, Spencer's, Key Bank, and at least one other clothing store I can't recall on the 2nd level by the Greek Gyro spot.

How much money would be required for the return of a neighborhood circulator (we called it The Circ) specifically for the Peninsula? It could travel between the Peninsula, W. 25th, and the East Bank if there was enough demand.

I just went in yesterday to pick up a present for my fiance- they included a postcard in the bag saying they were shutting their doors. I hope they and the other stores left don't completely leave downtown and have some presence in the future.

How could the numbers be THAT far off? Makes no sense at all. What would be the reason for putting out false info for that long?

Cleveland: Random Development and News
I just noticed the Jenga version of NuCLEus in the background; also, opposite The Q at Ontario and Huron there's a tower (I believe that was the Ferrari proposal?). Also, looks like Tower City Phase 2 is included on the other side of Huron... Looks like the city was playing Sim City indeed ? At least we'll get a version of NuCLEus up soon.

I like the updated design- looks much more like this will be built rather than waiting for more public financing options. This scaled down version is more in line with what was originally planned, which most of us had no problem with. And don't be too down regarding the decrease in height- there's plenty of other lots which will support a taller building downtown, and there's finally the momentum here locally in the economy along with both the Class A market and more residentil units which continue to be in demand. Remember, there was a report recently which stated downtoen Cleveland could use another 6000 residential units. There WILL be more residential construction soon because we've pretty much used up most of thr stock of older office building conversions. Theres no where to go but up from here ?
