Updates from today:

Interesting that the info provided by the police department shows crime actually decreasing over the last three years, but there's been an increase in the amount of coverage of crime in Cleveland Heights by Cleveland.com. This can lead to shifting perceptions of the city, which can lead to people not wanting to invest in the city, leading to a whole other set of negative factors. IMO of course.

I will admit that I DID NOT watch the second half... and was completely ecstatic when I learned they won. I guess I'm so used to the team getting annihilated in seasons past that I gave up on watching them. I will NOT make the mistake of giving up on the team half-way through a game again! Go Browns!!

Interesting... I wonder what Forest City wanted for the properties, since Cleveland is no longer a market they are willing to hold properties in. Another note: A few Forest City reps (including Jonathan Ratner) will be at the Flats master-plan unveiling next week. I know that's getting off topic; but maybe, JUST MAYBE, they're toying with the idea of investing here. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I guess we can take the BLS estimates with a grain of salt... BUT... the BLS states that Cleveland's employment numbers are the highest they've been since December of 2008. This is OUTSTANDING news- however, I would also like to see the May Co. receive the funding from the state between the two buildings first. I would bet that both of the buildings would be asking for some of the highest rents in the city. Hell- could you imagine actually living in the Huntington and going through that lobby every day on your way to your apartment unit? Taking that building off of the market for office use takes a big chunk of square footage of vacant office space out of the market for downtown... and as KJP stated in another thread, we could very well be seeing a new office building soon based strictly off of the moves the downtown market has made. Hopefully, IF the Huntington doesn't make the cut for the state funds, I hope the owner and developer are able to secure the needed funding for the project to move forward.

This is NOT a good move by the NFL- talk about bad public relations... Ray Rice anyone?

^I can't remember when the last time was when anyone on council or the mayor mentioned transit expansion. Seems as though it should be a County issue, since RTA is regional. But then again, I don't know if there has been a story since the new government was put into place which mentioned County Council wanting any type of transit service expansion. I would love to be wrong on that, however.
