Great... But I guess that the geis siteplan might work out... we'll just have to wait for renderings. I'm hoping that the city planning commission will step up and remember the potential for this corridor... seems as if they've all forgotten so far.

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
I don't know when Clevelanders, both urban and suburban, will wake up to the fact that the way our local governments are set up is EXTREMELY inefficient. Different topic, however. I wonder what type of funds could be allocated towards the construction of a new train station (besides the feds)? Does it have to come from the city/county taxpayers, or is there some sort of other solution? Could the State of Ohio kick in some funds? How about some of the businesses which call Cleveland home- any chance they would kick in funds (blasphemous, I know)? I wouldn't want to turn the train station into one giant advertising board, but how about some advertisement funds? Just trying to get some ideas out there.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^I believe (I hope) that is the second stop in Cleveland, with the first being the Amtrak station downtown. It would have been nice if the train could connect directly to the airport, but this is good none-the-less for the city and the state.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
Kasich could very well win off of that, however I would hope that someone asks him which programs would be cut... and when. Getting rid of the state income tax would definitely help lure residents and businesses back to Ohio.

Great game! I was worried about tonight's game, since Mo was out with an injury. But it seems that even without one of the other players on the team capable of scoring 20 points a game, we can still come out on top against last year's champions!

Since this bridge will have the capacity to allow both eastbound and westbound traffic concurrently on the same span, when the span will after 2017 only have traffic going in one direction, what will become of the extra space available after the transition? I don't see why bike paths can't be allowed on this span after the second bridge is constructed. Seems like there will be a lot of space left over.

^^LOL!! The bulkheads line the river, which is several feet lower than where "said 'beach'" will be! I don't think logs will be floating on to the beach when it's constructed, but condoms? Those might.

^LOL! Guys, this is a temporary use!! Isn't the boardwalk supposed to be built along the river's edge, including where the temporary beach is supposed to be located? Of course this is going to be part of phase 2, but plans don't show that this will be a beach forever. If it works, great. We can construct a beach along the riverfront or lakefront elsewhere. But it's not that big of a deal- it's a temporary usage, and one that might end up being a great experimentation of potential land use along our industrial river and lakefront.

What about the people in them? Yikes I forgot all about that! No, seriously... many of these structures are empty and have been for some time. And the whole idea is to spur construction of more desirable and era-appropriate housing. These would be roughly simultaneous processes, or at least overlapping. I'm not suggesting we bulldoze 100 blocks, count to ten, then start thinking about what to put there. What I'm suggesting is very similar to the Youngstown 2010 plan, except that Cleveland actually needs new housing... just not in addition to what's already here. ^Gotcha. Smart shrinkage and all that. I'm cool with that so long as neighborhoods are preserved as much as possible and the urban fabric is not erased. What would be worse than a strip center replacing a row of old mansions? You obviously have the right idea so I'm preaching to the choir here. The hard part is the decision-making and the decision makers. Are there private groups who do this or is it mostly city hall or public/private partnerships? I believe that it will be the private sector which drives any neighborhood reconstruction effort in the city. In Cleveland, we can look to University Circle and some of the plans for parts of Midtown, Hough, and Fairfax before the credit crisis. The city needs to do better at marketing the jobs available as the greatest demand generator for new housing, in my opinon.

The red brick used for the hotel will blend in with the surrounding area well. With the choice of brick color used for the office tower, I think the office tower is designed purposely to stand out in regards to its surroundings. Since this is phase 1 of the project, things might seem to come together better when the residential phase is built. Until then...

Foreclosures jump in December after months of declines By Stephanie Armour, USA TODAY Foreclosure filings increased 14% in December from November, the first monthly increase since foreclosure activity peaked in July, according to a RealtyTrac report out Thursday. The State of Ohio had 88,000 foreclosures in 2008, 90,000 foreclosures in 2009, and housing counseling agencies around the state are expecting 90,000+ foreclosures this year, mostly due to the recession. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see housing prices rising quite that fast this year.
