Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I've heard that quote before, being that the site is the most productive in the world. The reason (if I remember correctly): direct access to the barges on the Cuyahoga River, and international transport via the Port and Lake Erie. One of the reasons we are the "Best Location in the Nation".

Cleveland: Downtown: Technology Center
^That looks like a FUN building!! Whohoo! Any chance the AD homeowners can argue for a better design, since the building will be right next door?

CLEVELAND - synopsis of cancelled projects
I guess this would be the place to ask- has anyone seen the plans for the Davenport Bluffs development in the 90s? This is something I've wanted to see but haven't been able to find.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
No matter how hard they tried, there is no getting around the stigma associated with a mental hospital. Those are real concerns... the woman who stated she would be scared to ride her bike from Cleveland Heights to downtown is just one voice of likely many. Some suburbanites are already "afraid" to be in Cleveland in the first place; well, here's another reason to be afraid- this time, on our grand corridor, which was recently rehabbed to draw and attract businesses and residents. 500 jobs or not, I guess I'm still not convinced that the general public will buy into this as being a good idea. But time is a tool, and we shall see.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^Eh, could be. Especially with the negative slant of the story against the county... sort of like when Forest City had the PD push for the TC site.

Forbes: Best Cities for Singles 2009
I guess that's a good way to look at it :) I'm not a fan of Forbes, but we have to admit that people put value into these listings- for whatever reason. Same with the "poverty" rankings... but that's another issue.

Everyone involved in this should get life. Argh, this makes me angry.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
This story is just playing off of the mess that county officials are in. I don't see how this could be front-page newsworthy. So the county didn't pick up the site... big deal. I would much rather prefer that they tear down their current administration building and move to available office space in the CBD. Once again, the 2011 timeline is interesting, as leases will be available in several buildings throughout the CBD during that year. And how is the county not picking up this building costing taxpayers millions? This story puts the county in a sort of damned if they do, damned if they don't type of situation.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
I just saw this amazing video... how sweet would it be if we had something like this here... Kuroshio Sea - 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world - (song is Please don't go by Barcelona) <object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5606758&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=ffffff&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5606758&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=ffffff&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/5606758">Kuroshio Sea - 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world - (song is Please don't go by Barcelona)</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/theradblog">Jon Rawlinson</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p> (Give this some time to load before watching...otherwise you won't have smooth playback) This was shot at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan. kaiyouhaku.com/en/ The music is "Please don't go" by Barcelona. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

COLUMBUS - the HBIC heads south for a weekend
Excellent photos Mayday! As a Clevelander, I'm the first to admit that I didn't expect to like much in C-Bus... but i came away impressed with the city and it's neighborhoods. In fact, I LOVE German Village! I visited that same bookstore... great stuff in there. We've got some great cities in Ohio, and Columbus is no doubt one of them. Thanks Mayday!

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^^I thought that there was a proposed zoning ordinance already in effect for this portion of Euclid... being mixed-use, three story minimum? Of course, with whichever councilman's approval, zoning variances could be granted to allow these projects to occur. However, if enough local support can be drawn in opposition of the projects, the councilman's approval could possibly be changed. Without the councilman's support, the projects would not pass through the board of zoning appeals (if the building's purpose does not match the specific zoning codes of the district). That all hinges on IF that particular zoning was passed for midtown... however I'm not sure if it did.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^True... if these are the types of investments we can look forward to from outside sources... not much can be said.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I would have to assume that Kerry McCormack hasn't taken the time to actually discover what Cleveland has to offer (besides downtown, obviously). Not everyone is as into urban neighborhoods as we; but once again, our own local population is our own worst enemy. Here is a college student telling other college students that Cleveland should just be ignored, because the downtown lakefront is lacking. The vast amount of land we have on our lakefront which is ripe for development is a blessing (at least in my eyes), and a curse (in the eyes of others). I would love to have a developed, functioning lakefront tomorrow, but we have one shot at this. It should be done right.
