Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^EXCELLENT!! Coach of the year, MVP of the year... all we need is a championship this year and this could be one of the greatest, if not THE greatest year in Cleveland sports history! Congrats LeBron!

I'm expecting good news today, dammit!

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Yeah, these plans will definitely be interesting when they are released. I guess there is a silver lining with our waterfront not being developed after all.

^Airport, directly east... makes it kinda shabby lol!

It's good that progress is being made, and I feel a little bit better about this now. We might make it through today without the County saying they will look at other sites...

Same with me MTS... Same with me.

Nothing from the city today about the county's deadline... oh what tomorrow will bring!

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
I think the next census may put the idea of regionalsim into better perspective for this region. Let's face it folks: with this next census we're gonna be taking a big hit, no doubt about it. And I'm not just talking about the City of Cleveland, but the entire county as well. This may be the catalyst to get this region to truly begin working together instead of against each other, to move ourselves forward towards future growth instead of current decline. I'm young, and would love to see this region succeed. However, I personally can't take too much more of this, and would rather not spend my whole life in a city with ongoing negative pessimism. I believe our stagnation has something to do with this since our region hasn't grown for 50 years. I know that this would not happen overnight, but I at least want to see the seeds planted towards regionalism, instead of mere talking or constant "planning".

Ain't sick of this shyt yet? Here's some more... Some fear medical mart deal could damage local film industry Posted by kturner April 29, 2009 17:45PM CLEVELAND — Cleveland's budding film industry will suffer a damaging blow if a medical mart project moves into the city's old convention center as planned, a local film executive says. Ivan Schwarz, executive director of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, contends that the downtown center is just the kind of space that filmmakers want -- but rarely find outside of Hollywood -- for use as movie soundstages. "There's nothing like this available in the United States," he said during a recent interview. "That just puts us on the map instantaneously." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/04/some_worry_medical_mart_deal_c.html

What a sad, sad situation. We've spoken on it in this thread before, but it seems the mayor is definitely in Forest City's pocket.

^One can only hope this area could see further investment. This is one of those neighborhoods which has been ignored for too long, but has obvious potential.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
I know this is a demo, and I am all for renovation and restoration of existing properties in the city... but losing this one won't be TOO much of a loss.

Cleveland: Biotech Business News & Info
This is great news. It would be great to see the coming transformation of Midtown in regards to biomed companies lining Euclid. With high property values, I would expect to see some nice looking buildings lining the street.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
It's great to see a developer put money into the neighborhoods, no question that this will benefit the surrounding area. Great to see! I believe one of the buildings in the complex was converted to offices (which will probably be the structure which isn't scrapped). Hope some renderings show up soon!

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
I know it's too early to judge aesthetics... but is there any plan for that blank brick wall on the western side of the building? It looks naked where the Dollar Bank building used to touch... maybe some large mural or screen could be put there.

Cleveland: Retail News
I think the mall is going through a perception issue, as the only stores that go in now would be considered "urban". And even the urban clothing stores in that mall are closing. MTS- I very rarely go to that mall, but there's nothing there that would interest your high tastes :). The only reason I would go there was because I had an old friend who worked in the Ritz Camera shop. That store, like others in the mall, recently closed.

I hear your point, but to know that you are in the penalty and not drive to the basket knowing you have the chance at an extra point from the free throw line... is unacceptable. Even for Boobie. You won't see Wally drive too much, but he did drive at least once to the basket during the home stretch.

CLEVELAND - Praise Be...
Great shots, Mayday. We cannot lose these gems!

I gotta add though, that the play during the fourth quarter was unacceptable. How the hell do you go from almost 30 points up to single digits within 6 minutes of play? Within those six minutes, no one drove to the basket, was fouled, or anything. That CAN NOT happen in Detroit, or against any other play-off team if we want to make it to the finals and beat the Lakers (and yes, I believe we can).

There was one shot last night showing "MVP" down the center of BP Tower (or whatever it is today). I don't know if that was stock but that sure looked nice, along with the aerial shots above Key showing Public Square and the Mall. Great exposure for a great city.

I don't see how this wouldn't speed things up, however, I wonder what the media backlash would be if the county bailed out the city somehow?

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
If they were so open to all kinds of designs, then why did they hold a press conference before the public hearing to categorically exclude cable-stay designs? Does the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge in Boston shed ice a lot? Does the I-280 shed ice a lot too? Or is it just a couple of days per year? And even if it is a lot, how hard is it to add attractive lighting elements to the cables and also serve as heating elements to prevent ice accumulation? Sounds like some narrow-minded ODOT engineer with some pull got a bug up his ass about ice accumulation and everyone freaked out. Oh, and by the way, the southern alignment may not be dead. Guess who's got some interest in it? How about Forest City Enterprises....... That would be great news... I take it that land holdings owned by Forest City would benefit more with the Southern Alignment? This is a conversation I would love to have them in instead of the other ongoing Forest City conversation, but that's another story.
