  1. DON'T GIVE THOSE F*CKWADS ANY IDEAS! You know what's messed up about the joke played beautifully yesterday? It's actually a GOOD idea.
  2. Yeah, that was just WRONG!! Lol especially when the design looks professional! But back to reality... I guess that since the mayor is officially supporting the mall site, that the selection process is over. Now we have to wait and see about contract agreements between the county and MMPI.
  3. In my opinion, we're forgetting something... that Obama is FROM Chicago, the capital of the midwest. He, of all people, should know what effect the collapse of the auto industry would have on this region of the country, regardless if our region is sexy or not (lol). There definitely is a double standard though... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHGU5vOfOrs&hl=en&fs=1">
  4. It is frustrating to see the local news media turn its back on what has been a wonderful transition for this portion of Euclid. It will be nice to see the momentum jump across E. 9th, but that's getting off topic :)
  5. Here's my letter: Mr. Guillen, I am writing this in response to your recent article which was posted on Cleveland.com in regards to Chris Kennedy's comments on the convention center site selection. The comment you made which I would like to address is as follows: "If the plan works, downtown Cleveland might one day teem with people again. Just a decade ago, the city was filled during the daytime with downtown workers and visitors, but the declining economy and departure of major employers has left the downtown core barren." It disgusts me, personally, to see negative attacks on this city in the many editorials which come from The Plain Dealer. Your comment is a complete falsehood, as our downtown core is not barren; in fact, your comment will only add to some suburbanites negative viewpoint towards our city. Editorial comments such as the one you made are the primary reason why I have made the personal decision to no longer support this news publication. As much of a positive tool that The Plain Dealer can be in regards to this region's renaissance, this news publication time and again throws negative slants against our regions core. In fact, this paper continually perpetuates the negative attitude that many in this region have towards the City of Cleveland, including our most precious asset: our young adults who continually move to "greener pastures" because of this negativity. This paper has officially lost another reader. I will try my hardest to make sure that the many individuals I know who actually care about Cleveland's issues do the same. Kindest regards, Oldmanladyluck
  6. WOW that new facade is going to make a huge difference on that building! Can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks Mayor!
  7. Nice pics of North Collinwood! I love my old neighborhood :-D
  8. Since we don't have a general hospital thread for the state, I'll put this here... http://blog.cleveland.com/medical/2009/03/northeast_ohio_hospitals_say_p.html Northeast Ohio hospitals say proposed state franchise fee will force cuts in jobs, charity care Posted by dsims March 27, 2009 05:45AM Chris Stephens / The Plain DealerThe view from a Clinic walkway in Cleveland. The Clinic and several other regional hospitals say they'll be hurt by a proposed state franchise fee, and that patients and staff will suffer. CLEVELAND -- Northeast Ohio's hospitals -- including the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Health System and the Sisters of Charity Health System -- said in a meeting Thursday in The Plain Dealer offices that they will be forced to consider cutting charity care and more than 1,800 jobs if a "franchise fee" remains in Gov. Ted Strickland's two-year budget proposal. Bill Ryan, president and chief executive of the Center for Health Affairs, whose members are the Northeast Ohio hospitals, said the governor's budget is "balanced on the back of the hospitals." John Corlett, deputy director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, said that if the state had other ways to generate this revenue, it would. The department plans to talk about alternatives this afternoon with the Ohio Hospital Association and the state budget office...
  9. I gotta say, that I like what Hagen said about the PD. Thanks Tim!
  10. HJG- that was a fair editorial to what we have seen thus far. When was this posted in the paper? I also agree that we DESERVE to know the details of the deal in play. I just have to wonder about the reasons behind the article, with the barrage of articles we've received from the PD obviously pushing for the Tower City site.
  11. Along with Charles Ratner, who with the Plain Dealer is a board member of the GCP? Though we, as the public, deserve to know what the details of this project are since we are funding it, I believe that this could be just another ploy from Forest City. This company has used the Plain Dealer as their puppet for this whole process.
  12. Excellent photo thread!
  13. I'm hoping we get an "official" statement from our elected leaders that a site was chosen, and soon.
  14. So there you have it. Let's get digging already. We can't lose this project, and MMPI doesn't want to play with Forest City. Discussion over.
  15. Speaking of Forest City, is this ANY coincidence? http://www.cleveland.com/movies/index.ssf/2009/03/lease_signed_to_create_film_st.html Lease signed to create film studio and soundstage in Cleveland Convention Center Posted by mnorman March 17, 2009 16:30PM CLEVELAND — New York-based Nehst Studios, confident that Ohio will pass tax incentives for film productions soon, is getting ready to start shooting two family films in Cleveland. Nehst Studios has signed a lease with the city of Cleveland that will allow the company to create a permanent Hollywood-caliber film studio in the Cleveland Convention Center, said Nehst founder Larry Meistrich. But production on the films -- and later, a television series -- won't start until a tax bill is passed that gives incentives for television and film productions that work in Ohio...
  16. Agreed. The future of this town does not depend on Forest City alone, but on all companies, institutions, and current and future citizens working together to move Cleveland forward. I would HATE to see this project jeopardized because of one company's agenda. If MMPI doesn't get get the Mall site, I could see them walking away from this. That is NOT the message we want to send to the nation.
  17. Another great photo thread! I LOVE old pics of the city!
  18. Excellent photos!
  19. Wow. Openly talking down on another board member? Great move, Sam.
  20. I have to question the price tag of Forest City's project. $351 million seems cheap for moving a part of the river, along with building the needed infrastructure to allow trucks behind Tower City. That's on top of building the actual convention center, and needed parking garage. I just don't see it staying in that price range, but I'm no expert.
  21. It is absolutely amazing to me to see our main newspaper publication be so upfront with the company they are supporting. Can't wait for the FINAL DECISION ALREADY!! DAMMIT.
