Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I remember a conversation with Mike Polensek where he stated the site would cost $5 million to clean. Where he got the number, I didn't ask- and this was four years ago.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Yep. Who knows what we may have ended up with- likely a 700+ footer. But as designed, in it's current location, it's fitting in great.

I doubt she did this alone; I’m sure the Law Dept was involved with the transaction.

Just redo the current bridge instead of demo. Problem solved (except for the cost- but hey, there could be money somewhere for it).

New numbers are out from the BLS. There's a definite slowdown in hiring which is occurring here. Total Nonfarm employment grew by only 0.7% during the month of May. The 5% growth in Education and Health Services and 2.3% growth in Manufacturing, are helping keep the region in the positive at this point. Some of the other large sectors in the local economy aren't doing as well. https://www.bls.gov/eag/eag.oh_cleveland_msa.htm#eag_oh_cleveland_msa.f.3

Not to change the subject, but I find it kind of frustrating that 2005 until the present covers all four terms of the Jackson Administration. Unless there was a previous plan to replace it completely, this was a failure to at least upkeep the bridge.

That would be a great activation of the lot and is an outstanding idea!

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
@KJPDo you know if any developers ever offered or tried to negotiate a land lease with the owners of the remaining majority of the land on the peninsula? If the owners want to hold on to it, besides an outright purchase (which they’re not willing to do) a land lease would be the next best thing. They get to keep the land, while the land gets developed and benefits the city.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
In Cleveland. This article was released yesterday: ”Manufacturers in Cleveland and other cities, including Buffalo, Chicago, and Milwaukee, are dealing with a retiring workforce that’s left thousands of jobs unfilled. Nationally, the industry’s job gap is projected to hit 2 million by 2030, according to the National Association of Manufacturers. The Cleveland region has an estimated 10,000 manufacturing job openings.” https://apnews.com/article/manufacturing-job-gap-cleveland-philanthropy-41a8aa35e6af01d008955d9b2b65a04f#

Cleveland: University Circle: Skyline on Stokes
I can't lie- I forgot all about this project! I'm glad to see it moving forward. At 7 stories, will this project bring about the crane porn that we all like to see?

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Trade, Transportation and Utilities has seen six consecutive months of job losses which seem to be accelerating. What could be causing the slowdown? Manufacturing employment is enjoying a bit of growth right now, which is a good thing- all numbers above 2% each month over the last six months. Growth is growth; however, the region can't get back to where it was pre-Covid (nor where it was pre-NAFTA) with overall 1% growth month over month. This could be cross-posted in the Cleveland Population Trends thread... but if/when the jobs begin to show, people will follow. If there are 10,000 unfilled manufacturing jobs, the Region is doing a poor job at getting the word out. Those jobs would undoubtedly support others locally.

Cleveland is CLOSE to breaking even (finally). We will see growth by 2025. The City itself had statistics from a few years ago expecting growth by 2024.- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Give me a piece of infrastructure which would give greater incentive to build on the city's lakefront any day of the week. I don't see how this would be an issue- at all.- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I just learned that SHW has put a hiring freeze in place… not so good if they’re forecasting a recession in the near future.- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
The plan back then was to tear the IX Center down for a runway expansion in order for the airport to be able to handle 747’s, if I’m remembering correctly. it made sense at the time; if air service continues to grow back to those levels (what was it, close to 20 million flights a year at its peak?) it may make sense in the future. All conventions should be downtown anyways and not by an airport with little economic benefit to the surrounding areas. It’s a chicken and egg type of problem, as the City couldn’t tear down the IX Center at the time due to the downtown convention center not being up to par. Now that it is, air travel is still down. Go figure.- Utopian / Self-Sustaining New Cities
I just saw this video and this is genius... there's no reason why these can't be installed along our freeways and along the lakeshore in Cleveland.- Cleveland Cavs Discussion
A good ol'-fashioned spanking of the Knicks by the Cavs yesterday. Loved the game- but I'm hoping that Jared Allen isn't targeted by Knicks players on Friday after that run-down block/ tech foul towards the end of the game yesterday. The contact was unintentional by Allen who was clearly trying to block the shot at the rim.- Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
Nice site plan, great infill for the street. Chester could use a few of these.- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I love how the pics are just teasers- I was just on Rockwell and E.9th today and the presence of the new tower, even with roughly 1/3 of it completed, is huge.- Cleveland History Thread
I just ran across this today- interesting info on Cleveland's Mafia history. - Cleveland: Population Trends
