  1. ^^Thanks for the info.
  2. I couldn't find another thread to post this, so... I was leaving class tonight, and noticed that the National City Bank Tower was bathed in a pink light from the base up. Also, the trees in the small offset along Euclid had lights on them as well. I never noticed National City lighting the building pink this time of year, though I could be wrong. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow night and post it.

The PD has definitely been shoving this negative news bullsh!t down the region's throat recently, seemingly for no reason at all. Once again, Plain Dealer reporters, YOU are part of the problem. YOU are driving our young to other cities with your negativity. YOU are perpetuating the negative, can't-do attitude of the region.
  4. I have to admit, I was surprised by the article not taking a negative jab at the city!!
  5. ^^Here's the graphic with that article (in PDF format)... http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2007/08/31FGOFFICE.pdf
  6. As stated before, we have been studying where to put the convention center since the Campbell administration. It frustrates me to hear that there are even more studies that are about to take place.
  7. Whatever the outcome, expect the PD to make the most out of any negativity associated with it.
  8. The article itself doesn't make me mad. To be honest, the spillover effects of Jacobs Field have been slower and less pronounced than was articulated when the Gateway tax was put into place; downtown development is occurring, but I don't know how much ECP or any of the major development projects happening right now have been catalyzed by the presence of Jacobs Field (with perhaps the exception of E. 4th Street). That being said, Jacobs Field certainly has been a good addition to the city and has opened up some development opportunities in the Gateway District, even if they've been less pronounced that was anticipated. What does upset me, however, is that the negative nancying that the PD reporters do in their op/ed pieces are impacting the press we receive outside the region. Enough is enough. I'm past the letter writing stage. I think (and I'm dead serious here) that we should stage a rally in front of the PD and one in front of Ideastream to challenge Dick Feagler to go on a tour of Cleveland with a group of us. It's time that we demand more from our local news media. News is one thing ... they have a responsibility to report on negative trends and incidents in the city. But if reporters are afforded a platform from which to offer editorial opinions about the status of the city, then I think they have a civic obligation to at least be informed of what is occurring in the community, good and bad, not what they catch in the yellow journalism headlines of the organizations they represent. Who's with me? This could also be an opportunity to generate a brochure about all the good things that are happening in Cleveland that we could distribute to passers-by and generate some buzz around those items. Two birds, one stone. I'm just getting fed up with this, and it really might motivate me to leave Cleveland unless I have a positive outlet to address these negative perceptions. I'm definitely in- time to stand against those who thrive on making individuals feel negatively about their city.
  9. This is definitely great news!!!!              :shoot: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:
  10. But thats not what the petition is for and it should be I don't understand why they are going after the tax and not after the commisioner's right to increase it. There was already a law that passed that allowed the commisioners to raise taxes. They should be petitioning again that law, not against a tax that the law allowed them to raise. Excellent point.
  11. ^^I'm all for that too!! I'm getting prices on some t-shirts tomorrow, dammit.
  12. Time to start a campaign, with bumper stickers, T-shirts, etc. emblazoned with: "I HATE THE PD BECAUSE I LOVE CLEVELAND!" I love it. That would be a great bumper sticker!! Something needs to be done... I'm fearful that too much of the uninformed public actually buys into this bullsh!t that the PD puts out. Here's a newsflash for the PD: YOU are part of the problem, while trying to be part of the solution at the same time!! The regionalism discussion is needed, and should be put out for the public to digest more and more until the public finally gets the picture!! Instead, you put out negativity, time and time again, front page for the public to digest!! No wonder many individuals feel bad about the region. No wonder why so many young people leave as soon as they can. I've made the decision to stick around and actually make a difference in the city, however, most of my friends from high school have left or want to leave for places down south, mostly because of word of mouth. I wonder what type of word of mouth might be generated by some positive news about the city?!! But I'm sure the PD has it figured out that positivity hurts their sales, instead of the negative bullsh!t that gets fornt and center attention (in fact, how and why does the PD have the audacity to publish that horsesh!t story at the SAME time the Cleveland+ campaign ran? That is what angers me the most :shoot: :shoot: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:). I am all for getting together and getting the word out about this website. Time for a UO campaign.
  13. ^^I have mixed feelings about the lot... since it is owned by Jacobs. The lot was not built on in the early 90s, and more than likely will raise in property value after the construction starts on the Pesht project. If the value of the property raises too high and the demand for a new skyscraper falls (if there is another glut in office space with the building of Pesht), then we could see a surface lot for another 10 years. I'm hoping a market study will be done (if ever) for a mixed-use highrise on the site, with residential/office/hotel space. The new convention center might help justify the need for added hotel space, and I'm sure there would be enough Clevelanders who would want that type of living experience in the center of the city (I'm definitely one of them ).
  14. I am so SICK of this garbage from the PD!! If you keep telling someone they are ugly and worthless, for years and years, the individual will start to BELIEVE it. The PD is one of the biggest proponents of our "can't do" attitude that we have in the region. If anyone can find one larger than the PD, let me know. I believe it is time to start a UO campaign to get the word out about the positive things going on in the city, so people can stop believing the PD is professing only the truth, instead of garbage journalism.
  15. Former McDonald Investment Center included in billion-dollar real estate deal Posted by Henry J. Gomez August 15, 2007 16:13PM Categories: Breaking News For the second time in less than a year, downtown Cleveland's reawakened office market has drawn the interest of a Dallas real estate investment company in the midst of a nationwide buying spree. As part of a proposed $1.4 billion deal, Behringer Harvard would buy 35 U.S. office properties, including the KeyBank Center -- formerly known as McDonald Investment Center -- at 800 Superior Ave. IPC US Real Estate Investment Trust of Toronto is the current owner. 16. Good to see Cleveland diversifying, one could expect added growth in the health and education services. Unfortunately, with the higher-than-average numbers of employment in manufacturing, we're probably gonna keep taking big hits during recessions until those numbers even out more.
  17. ^^I thought that was funny too! Very interesting article, especially the fact that Forest City wanted $40 million for air rights above the parking lot behind Tower City. Don't know who would pay for that at that price...
  18. Somebody please get this guy to come to this website and LEARN something, dammit.
  19. This is great news!! Just one question, because I'm a little confused... the flight from Cleveland to Shanghai will not be nonstop?
  20. Nice pics!! Maybe one day the city will have enough money, with the (hopefully) renovated convention center to add the fountains back if there is enough of a public call for them.
  21. ^^Personally, I'd much rather have that! I for one like the transition that Hough has made. We all know the history of Hough, and how it was truely a high density neighborhood in the 50s. Hell, I have family that still brings up the old Hough in the 50s to this day, but at the same time love what has happened throughout the neighborhood today. Who would've thought that Hough would attract this type of development when not too long ago the neighborhood was still devistated by the Hough riots? I'ma fan of Hough, dammit!! :drunk:

Excellent photos!!!!! I can't wait until Pesht takes off. Those shots show how big downtown really is, and how much development potential are on those parking lots. The photos of University Circle are great... there seems to be more buildings in those photos than in the photos of Downtown Akron. It will be interesting to see how University Circle looks in five years, with all the new jobs and housing that will be built in the area. Great photos of Shaker Square... we know how to do TODs in Cleveland, and our past shows it in these photos. Great job!!
  23. I hate to see 668 Euclid in the condition it is in still. Does anybody have pics of the origional facade of terra cotta?
  24. ^^Love this article. It basically says what we all know- that our regional economy is truely in transition, and that our local news media love to feed off of negativity and aren't stating all the facts. Thanks for the article.
  25. And if we didn't all know this... http://www.cleveland.com/census/images/census1_0628.gif
