  5. a cities true greatness is defined by its ghettos
  6. ^yeah, with little italy being less and less italian, and a much younger crowd (slowly but surely) the anits become less vocal.
  7. So why the hell not, lets have a popularity contest for Ohio's best architecture! I will be accepting nominations in this thread. Rules: 1. Please nominate two buildings max. 2. If you desire, you may include one photo for the time being. For the final poll one image will be included for reference (subject to change) If you break rule #1 or #2 your post will be deleted by myself. 3. The building must be complete, not a vision, u/c, proposed or demolished. 4. Tentatively i will stop accepting nominations one month from today, April 17th. 5. A building needs a second and a third to be included in the final poll. You can second/third as many buildings as you like. 6. Please be creative, don't limit yourself to only skyscrapers, hell maybe you think a guyed mast is beautiful.
  8. and i've never been a victim of a crime in detroit or cleveland, so clearly those are the two safest cities in the nation.
  9. oh, i agree with that. The north quad is relatively back from the street (harkness, hayden, guilliford, while mather is a slight exception). However towards the ford bellflower intersection most are built out to the corner (msass, dively), then the homes (wheter institutional/frat/private, have your "modest front lawns, nothing that screams suburbia because most of those homes are probably getting around 80-90 years old.
  10. i remember during the design that an issue was "allowing the building to breathe"
  11. pbl, modest set-backs? I disagree sir.
  12. quit the cleveland vs. dc bickering.
  13. no way, that's marietta
  14. but what about that 1960s monstrosity? won't someone save it!?
  15. at least the found a use for reeds......
  16. yeah, i saw sauder on the way out of town, i don't know if they were open (i doubt it) but i remember it being like 10 bucks. Well i could have stopped by the gift shop.....
  17. rob1412, i agree with the "too wide streets dealie" Two sides of the square were four lanes across, and the walk sign buttons didn't seem to be functioning perfectly. The other sides of the square had this poorly planned division, with one lane in each direction and pull-in angled parking, which made the area look very unattractive. everbody else, thanks for swinging by
  18. rob1412, I would have like to try and hit up the damn, but my time available just wasn't great. But us-24 is a nice scenic drive from toledo, which i've done before. dffly, i agree with your bigger small-town description, there was just a bunch of crap on the way into town from us 24/oh 66
  19. well you lost your backup QB: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060314/SPORTS19/60314009 bring on scott mitchell!
  20. final stop on the pope choo choo. To best describe wauseon, i give you this excerpt from the chamber of commerce's website: The old state line of Michigan runs through the central part of the county near Seward. A historic marker notes the battle of 1835 between Michigan and Ohio over the positioning of the state line and possession of Toledo. After the “Toledo War,” which Ohio won, the state line was moved north seven miles. you lucky sobs, you got wauseon out of the deal! wauseon has seen better days nice little library though woah, what are you guys, stuck in the 1960s? look at that imposing shadow, what could it be? thougth it was a church at first, turns out its the county courthouse (by this time in the day, the sun really blew) fly high for oh-hi-o Soldiers and sailors of wauseon wow, old town. turns out my suspicions were right, this town really is stuck in the 1960s, apparently the vietnam "conflict" is still going on skyscraper not looking too good sigh when your chamber of commerce is in a 150sq ft building, that's a bad sign well maybe at one day it was jumpin' cabooosey station in quesiton creepy, but nice looking house another gem wtf? moo not much else here so i leave you with the "pano":
  21. well two stops in two podunk-esque towns. not bad, not great, kinda like purgatory welcome to downtown stryker, complete with four way stops! well, at least the town has a cool name bout as dense as it gets around here where i got my cdl and my hair did occupied, vacant, vacant! housing stock was really unispring too, i didnt bother to walk very far he was creepy __________________________ well anywho, another 15 minutes up the road to archbold, which is somehow pronounced Arch-i-bawld this is a bad sign this is too what do you know, a 50s nostalgia diner village hall, which played god bless america for like 10 minutes straight (apparently village halls have carillions), i wanted to kill myself another hidden deco beauty in nw ohio. housing stock, bah this city has the most high tech "push to walk" buttons ever mm...tobacco how did subway get such a nice building? rexall? boring street ta ta, archie! okay, one more stop left!
  22. hmm...not a bad little town, perfect example of town square with big courthouse. also, perhaps one of the best ohio courthosues (take that defiance!) i present you, my favorite NW ohio courthouse! she's a beaut. detail well the downtown was in very good shape (complete with a curves) though it was tremendously boring from a photography point, every single block facing the square looked exactly the same. no really i can stress how much i like this one another focus from a different angle! well they do have a movie theater not even this isolated ohio town can escape the wrath of tim allen payday loans are popular in ohio the 1980s called, they want their phone booth back. such a beautiful deco sign/building. unfortunately a giant telephone pole/street light blocks getting any good shots of it see what i mean about nice but boring? detail of the corthouse wainscotting? in the wtf department: what happened here? 50s style dinners also pop up a lot here in the nw goodbye bryan, i'll miss you! well bryan might be hard to top, lets cruise route 2 and see what happens!
  23. so, i got bored monday. i drove around, i took pictures, wee this is here just to stress how truly boring the terrain is here well they combined two bastions of ohio: the drive thru beer store and a check-n-go type place this really isn't exciting photography, just boring street scapes. ditto hanging around the courthouse somethings not quite right about this one..... your it one of these floors just doesn't belong well part of it is old and finally, truly stressing how ugly this thing is. anywho, back to boring streetscapes churchtastic mail call i cant help but looking back at the poor couthouse (at least mansfield is consistantly ugly, not tumor-ed) some purdy housing stock nice little library on the river though, these lamps scare me too bad the fort still isn't here klaclow confluence of the maumee and the auglaize rivers i wonder if he's named after chief logan, of the mingo tribe...... northern sklyine anybody heard of this guy? bridge over the maumee yeah, another streetscape, deal with it last second shot of a building on the way out of town this town blows (though there were some hot girls, and a really nice coffee house) lets see whats up the road in part 2......
