  1. I think the real issue is that Clevelanders are fat and lazy, and unfortunately getting the FEB involves a hill.

There was an article in this thread from maybe around the holidays that spoke to that.
  3. I wasn't being critical of the time it takes, I was just trying to get a feel for what stage we were in.

Yes, Children's hospitals (good ones that is) serve a few purposes: 1) Magnet Hospital for Metro (and generally little competition) 2) Easier Name Recognition. Take for example University Hospitals of Cleveland. Its a top tier hospital, generally in the top quartile of whatever ranking you can find. Unfortunately it always will be in the Cleveland Clinic's shadow. But it has Rainbow Babies Hospital and that facility is always top 5 in the nation/midwest/whatever (don't quote me on that) 3) Money. Children's hospitals are magnets for big donor money. Conversely burn centers are not. Typically when it comes to being a Level I trauma center, a burn center is a sticking point for many. Not many hospitals want the investment of being Level I, since it hardly pays off (again, donors). Someone please correct me if I'm out in left field.

Problem is, I see that as an indication that the free market could work when it comes to smoking bans.

for a best picture award, you gotta do more than a two hour happenstance story about a retard.

Am I the only person that thinks that Forrest Gump shouldn't have won any awards? Its a nice happy non-sequiter story that will keep you amused for 2 hours, but aside from that?

well anything is better than Craig Kilborn. I feel like that whole show revolved around him getting attractive women on, and then hitting on them for the entire interview. Not in the awkward Conan O'Brien way, but kinda like Kilborn's character in Old School.
  11. KJP's answer is essentially correct. This is what is known as Request for Proposals, or RFP, as opposed to an Invitation For Bid (or IFB). Because this is for services, an RTA panel will look at all proposals, hear some presentations, and then make a recommendation. Staff will present the recommendation to the Board at a Commitee meeting, and then the full Board will vote on it. The RTA panel will look at price, but even more importantly, at a firm's track record doing similar projects. In theory, anyone here could submit a proposal, but the panel would probably reject your proposal because you have never done this kind of work before. I apologize if this explanation is too basic for you. I realize that some on this list may already know all this, but I am writing it for those who do not. A little basic, but I get it better now. So once contract is awarded, what's the next step timeline? (move the station already!)
  12. JMasek, or someone else, can you translate this into normal people speak? http://www.riderta.com/bc_contractopps_SolicitationsDetail.ASP?listingid=569 What will come out of this, final recommendations or something? What kind of grand timeline are we in for this project? Thanks!
  13. ^sadly Hagan is a graduate of Urban Affairs at CSU and was on the faculty at Goodman: http://bocc.cuyahogacounty.us/hagan.htm

even for some of the more "lighthearted" threads on UO: I have to groan and request we get this back remotely near topic.
  15. Okay, that's just f-ed up. (unedited b/c I'm lazy) Date Picture Taken: 5/4/2008

Is there a law that says dependent on where you were born, where you live and who you play for, you must root for the local team? If that were the case I'm somewhere between a Pittsburgh-Detroit-Cleveland fan base.
  17. ^yes, but its safe from all the hoodlums with the "parental involvement program"

I know Buffett knows his M&A and other financially fun stuff, but does the man really know oil? That's like me commenting on someone's angioplasty.
  19. And Kentucky is bad why? Kstay go up and read my post.
  20. Erie Street Cemetery, one of Cleveland's oldest. Unfortunately this baby really shows it age, from vandals, soot, pollution and I suppose just old age, she's quite rough around the edges. Standing in the shadows of Jacobs/Progressive field, it provides a peculiar respite from downtown, Map. Pretty much everything is 19th century, and many predate the Civil War. The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History provides a nice write-up Lighting wasn't perfect, but neither am I, Progressive's lights in the background I have to wonder what one would do with a head stone Powerwash me. Fix me. Not sure who is supporting who here. Eep! I'm callin' domino. Very few headstones are readable today, one of the few exceptions. Well it is spring after all. Notice the wear around the base of the Urn. I think this photo is level and the monument is crooked. Seems like when some fall over, they were just left down. Cleveland's 1st Permanent White Settlers With the Yankees in town, plenty of blimps for everyone. Requisite shot. Dirt McGirt I forget the placard, but something something, graves moved, graves moved back.... Go Tribe. Eerily peaceful. He has a write up at the Clev-Encyclopedia. He haunts Progressive Field to this day.... He was a big fan of Joc-O-Sot Green! Colours! Its a me! Mario! Boogity Old/new or something. CHOMP!
  21. Guys, I don't care if you disagree with someone's opinion, but lets try to avoid being obnoxious, biased and critical of other cities. Not directed at anyone, I would simply like to avoid making my flame bigger by blowing out theirs.
  22. I don't see being able to cram a convention center in that area without creating a super-block. Look how much space Columbus' takes up. Then notice the vacuum effect of pedestrians around it. I could foresee fitting the smaller footprint of the medical mart in the WHD, if the intent was to split the two facilities.
  23. that's not urban sprawl, that's progress!
  24. Great American is a glorified Triple A ballpark with a Triple A team playing in it. And Jacob's Field/Progressive Has so many championships to show for it to.

Nope, really don't feel like it.
