Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Actually, this design has nothing to do with the 1980s versions. The 80s versions had two different designs. The first was a giant square structure in the middle of the block with one setback about halfway up with a flat top. The other one which was extremely cool, was twin 40 story towers with spired tops. One tower sat where 303 Broadway is today and the other sat where the rotunda is today. I wish I still had a copy of the rendering! I had a rendering of the two-tower design until about 3 years ago when I cleaned up my files! (Jack)

The first piece [tiara] is undergoing final fabrication and will go up later this week. Note that the 40+ individual pieces individually are not large. It’ll take until July for tiara completion. ( from Rob Alpern)

It appears to me that the heights above sea level for Carew and QCS are about the same, making nice bookends for the downtown skyline when viewed from Kentucky.

Ok, technically the building is roughly 575' tall including the concrete core. But the height of the floors which Sherman is referring is around 560' or so. If you look at the webcam you'll see what looks like 1.5 levels of concrete core sticking out past the top (41st) floor . This is the current unofficial height of the building IMO. Since the total height of the building is 665', I just subtracted that height from the current height and that's where the 90' came from. The concrete core will be inside the tiara so it won't add or subtract to the overall height of the building once it's built. So the tiara from the top of the 41st floor to it's peak will be around 100' or so extra. Hope I didn't confuse you. I believe the actual height of the building changed from 660' to 665'? Many articles suggests 665': "At 563 feet above Third Street, the tower's current height surpasses downtown's 495-foot tall PNC Tower and 468-foot Scripps Center. It will remain the building's peak height until work begins in March on a grand 400-ton tiara that will top off the tower, crowning it at 665 feet." My math: (13' Floors x 41) + 20' Lobby + 10' Mezzanine = 563'. The height of the building + Tiara 102' = 665'. So it will be 91' taller than Carew Tower excluding the flagpole. sounds good to me- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
IF the total height of the building is 665 ft. and as someone said the tiara is 90 ft, then the height without the tiara is 575 ft, I foot higher than Carew....is the 90 feet correct?- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Rob Alpern says installation of the tiara will begin near the end of April, and the final installation of the curtain wall is no longer on a critical schedule- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Wonderful shots...what a difference a new tall building makes..it spreads the skyline!!- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Thanks, DS, and the pics are awesome!!!- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Just to clarify things: the view of the north side of QCS from the webcam has shown the outer skin up to about 8-9 floors from the top. As far as I can discern from the webcam, this has been the view for about a month....that is, no additional outer skin has been added to the top 8-9 floors on the north side for a month. Not to be argumentive, or beat a dead horse, but this appears to be a fact..:) I am sure the construction team is doing an execllent job!- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I ask a simple question, and all I get is sarcasm...this is not the place for it...I just inquired if anyone knew why no outer skin has been installed for the last several weeks.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
What I mean is that on the webcam, there has been no sign of curtain wall being added to the north side of the building. The top 8 or 9 floors do not have the curtain wall, and have not had it for some time. Am I wrong about this?- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
It does not look as if much visible work has been done on the building exterior.- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Why or why can't they put up a webcam or us out-of-towners?!- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I believe construction of the tiera will begin sometime in March. Anyone know for sure?- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Thanks very much for the great pics...anyone ever get to Devou park for pics?- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
By now I would think there would be a webcam (again) for the Banks...does anyone know?- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Two other buildings in Cincinnati are almost as high as 500 ft.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
The Enquirer has twice reported in recent days that the height of the tower will be 665 ft. instead of 660 ft. I wonder if this is true, although 5 additional feet is nothing to write home about.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Rob Alpern said: The concrete core finishes up next week. Steel topping out is scheduled for mid-to-late January. The tiara construction will start in the spring and last for at least 3 months...finishing up in the summer. It'll be a slow process.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I saw QCS from the Paul Brown parking lot, and it definitely does not look squat, but tall and somewhat slender from this perspective...very nice!- Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
It is amazing to me the beautiful architecture in cities like Dubai and Hong Kong, but then I realize that just beyond the core downtowns lies poverty for the most part. Still, I wonder why there is not more bold architecture in US buildings (remember the plain architecture of the world trade ctr? - Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
