  1. The twin buildings directly East of PBS are interesting. It would be pretty damn cool if there were buildings of that height (8 floors?) that close to PBS. It would make the make the project feel pretty dense and connected to the Stadium. It probably won't happen though.
  2. 100% agree. I don't care what these knuckle-draggers say or think, so I don't listen to 700 and I don't read enquirer comments. They have given up on the urban core, but they lost this battle. Time for us to just tune them out.
  3. But their math is still wrong. The Enquirer article now says "more than 90 percent." Its actually a hair less than 90 percent.
  4. On a completely different subject, does anyone know when the Mercer Commons construction will begin?
  5. For the first time in my life I think this is a true statement. We do have extraordinary leadership in Cincy right now.
  6. You clearly aren't getting any. When I lived at the Shillito, my neighbor used to have a different girl in there every night (nice job+bachelor status+loft+Downtown+15 bars within walking distance=Perfect setup). They were so damn loud. Before I realized what was going on, I assumed that he was just listening to porn really with the volume cranked. Eventually, I went over and we had to talk ... he stopped after that (or moved to the other side of the wall). I think I know that guy, real big guy right?
  7. ^ the primary problem with that space is the it booms in the summer because it has maybe the best outdoor dining space in the whole city (making the rent very high), but it is dead in the winter because the indoor space is relatively small. A pub will have a fighting chance in the winter as it will attract the heavy drinkers and sports crowd that avoided the Vineyard.
  8. I think you are being a little over dramatic. It sucks losing the Friar's building, but you have to look at it from the owners/developers point of view. That building was very old, needed many expensive upgrades, and could not be reasonably converted into another use. What were they suppose to do with it? Continue operating it at huge losses? Put millions of dollars of upgrades into and try to compete with the UC Rec Center? Abandon it and let it fall into disrepair? It is easy for someone without any financial skin in the game to criticize. At least they are putting the site to good use and immediately building new housing. Also, that mural was no great loss. I thought it was ugly as hell.
  9. I hate to ask, but are we going to find out about the Fed money today?
  10. One of the best things about this project is that it will improve the impression that motorist get of the city as they approach from 75 South. One of the first things you see as you enter town from Chicago or Indy is this abandoned building. It looks bad.
  11. It is a cool proposal, and if it was built I would personally be intersted in one of the old townhouses, however, it looks really, really expensive. Anyone have an educated guess how much a solid rehab on those old townhouses would be per unit.
  12. ^ she's not convulsing she's levitating.
  13. That is the most happening community I have ever seen. They have an ultimate frisbee game, impromptu urban poetry slams, an old hippy on guitar, hot chicks around a campfire at noon in the middle of August and rednecks tailgating for some mysterious football game that must be going on nearby. And it is all happening simultaneously!!! And at night, every single unit has a party. How could the city not give this project its full support?
  14. ^ I never understood the fascination that some have had with the ESPN Zone. Have you ever actually been to one? They suck. Think Planet Hollywood meets sports bar.
  15. Not to get too far afield, but the city that really needs to cap its downtown/uptown expressways is Atlanta.
  16. ^ Yeah I caught that and that may be the explanation, it just doesnt seem like a good reason to undergo the arduous process of relocating a street that you may not even want. Its not like Merhing Way will be used as a State Route or for the transportation of haz/mat. If they are required by the State to maintain it as a State Route then why not work with the department of transportation to lift that designation? It just seems silly to invest so much time and money into relocating the street, when it doesnt seem to serve a purpose within the Park.
  17. His explanation that they needed to relocate Merhing Way "as far North as possible" in order to make room for the park is interesting. He makes it sound like this was a big, expensive process. But, I don't understand why they didnt just get rid of Mehring Way between Walnut and Race altogether. Why do we need a road through the park? I am not criticizing (there is probably a good explanation), I'm just wondering.
  18. By western portion do you mean the portion west of the Freedom Center, that is used as Bengals parking?
  19. Any way of getting a cleaner copy of that video?
  20. ^wonderful. Please make it happen. Not knowing much about the Drop Inn Center, I am suprised that they don't have a seperate facility for the older homeless men (who presumably have chosen the homeless lifestyle), and the younger families and women that are trying to get back on their feet. All of those "I "heart" OTR" stickers should be changed to "I "heart" 3CDC." That group has been a godsend to Cincinnati.
  21. ^They'll probably choose some horrible jingoistic name like the "Freedom Bridge."
  22. It probably won't happen, but it would be awesome if the casino included an arena for boxing, MMA events and concerts.
  23. I have always wondered what would happen to those decorative structures on the bridges if they capped FWW. It might look cool if they just kept them in place despite the fact that it won't really be a bridge anymore.

  25. They had a killer Dig Dug machine in the arcade. Can that be salvaged?
