  1. Its not at all surprising that Seattle media is negative about light rail as their monorail has been a huge flop. Its basically a big joke among locals.
  2. ^ Chicago has at least a half a dozen skyscrapers currently under construction that are bigger than QSII.
  3. ^ any idea when construction will start? Is it still on schedule?
  4. ^ That would be fantastic news. If true I bet it has everything to do with SCPA about to open. Washington Park simply cannot continue to be scumbag central with the school opening up right next door.
  5. There is a second Zip's location its just not called Zip's. The Main St. Cafe in Newtown is owned by the same people, and serves the exact same burgers and chili.
  6. "Uptown" refers to the cluster of neighborhoods directly north of Over the Rhine. (Mt. Auburn, Corryville, parts of Clifton) Basically the area around the University.
  7. ^ This is fantastic news. We are going to end up getting the Banks built for pennies on the dollar. This is the perfect time to be building a project like this. Now let's get the Feds to pay for those decks over FWW.
  8. That super-tall unit in Good Fellows (4th pic in the gallery after the jump) is one of the coolest condos I have ever seen. How much did that/is that going for?
  9. ^ Its hard tell much from the renderings, but those tenants would be great additions to uptown and that is a great block to put them.
  10. That video is cool. Aparrently they are planning on building the terminal out of Legos.
  11. ^ that is a great looking bridge. A couple of questions about cost. -How much are modern suspension bridges like the Sai Van compared to cable stayed bridges? -Is there any chance that they build a plain, highway overpass-type bridge? I mentioned a few pages ago that the main interstate into St. Louis crosses the Mississippi on what is essentially a highway overpass. I would like to be reassured that such a solution will not happen.
  12. What about the food at City BBQ? It is pretty good (real) BBQ. Montgomery Inn ribs are boiled and finished off on a grill, then lathered with sauce to cover up the fact that it isnt smoked. I commend them for their success, but I honestly don't understand it.
  13. City BBQ is pretty damn good. Much, much better than Montgomery Inn. But Montgomery Inn, for better or worse, is a local staple. I would rather see Montgomery Inn even though I would personally never go there unless I was with people that wanted to go.
  14. ^ I think that would be great. Montgomery Inn would be an excellent anchor to the Banks and give the neighborhood instant credibility. Your typical Cincinnatian that has a negative view of downtown and the Banks loves the god-awful microwaved ribs they serve at Montgomery Inn.
  15. Despite this article's attempt to put a negative spin on the wonderful efforts of 3cdc and others to breathe new life into OTR, I think most people will read the article and come away with a more positive view of OTR. The paragraph below is great press for OTR. I say, keep these stories coming. I want to hear more about how successful the efforts to clean up OTR have been.
  16. ^ That is hilarious. I guess they couldnt find a picture with a chalk outline on the ground behind the police tape.
  17. I would hate to see a massive structure like the one you mention on our river. What makes the river and its surrounding hills beautiful is the river and its surrounding hills...why would you want to hide all that with a massive chunk of twisted steel over our river? Well when you call it a "massive chunk of twisted steel" it doesnt sound nice at all. I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that building a big ass bridge is going to somehow ruin the beauty of the surrounding hills and the river below. The reality is that we are going to get some massive structure given the decision to build a second bridge immediately adjacent to the Brent Spence. I think that it will look more elegant if it is constructed to visually relate to the Brent Spence. One way to do that is to build a twin, but there are probably other cool ways to design a bridge that plays off of the Brent Spence.
  18. The story above says that it will be a double decker. I assume it would be 4 lanes on each level?
  19. This blurb from the story above really enforces my belief that the option selected by Ohio and Kentucky is the right one. As fun as it would be to see a new dynamic bridge set apart from or in place of the Brent Spence go up, those options cause so many problems with displacing existing homes/businesses, environmental impacts and higher costs that there is no question in my mind that it isnt worth it. As far as aesthetics are concerned, someone posted the idea of building a twin of the Brent Spence. I think this could look really cool. Build an identical bridge next to the Brent Spence and give both bridges the same bold fresh coat of paint and you would have a great looking massive structure unlike any other in the country. Any chance that the talented graphic design professionals/hobbyists on this board can come up with some renderings of various possibilities?
  20. I think you are being thrown off by the fact that a lot of the wait staff at Sung are non-Koreans and the modern decor. I think the the food is on par with Riverside.
  21. I was looking at the map of properties owned/controlled by 3cdc and I was wondering what the next phases of development will be. Is the goal to develop everything south of Liberty before concentrating on the blocks above Liberty? I would imagine that it would take at least 5-7 years to make fix up everything south of Liberty.
  22. Riverside Korean (Covington) Cilantro (Corryville) Sung Korean (downtown) Ko Sho (downtown)
  23. I would love to see a rendering of QCS from the perspective of a car travelling westbound on columbia parkway. Anyone know if such a rendering exists?
  24. Can someone refresh my memory? What are the details of the streetscaping?
  25. I fail to see how not building a signature bridge is an example of Cincinnati being firmly rooted in the 20th century. Bridges cost billions of dollars of taxpayer money. There is nothing progressive about wasting money on a frivolous bridge when cheaper and less disruptive options are available. Cincy is pretty lucky to have their current fleet of bridges. Similar river cities like St. Louis and Louisville are the ones that should be complaining about their bridges. The main interstate crossing over the Mississippi to St. Louis is just a concrete highway overpass with no vertical feature at all. Talk about bland. The closest thing St. Louis has to a signature bridge is the Eads, which also has no vertical feature (although the arch below road level is cool looking) Louisville just has a pair of cantilever bridges and a couple of old railroad bridges.
