  1. When are they going to construct the wall at the river's edge? The shabby wilderness area between the river and the park looks awful.
  2. ^ I don't remember people on UO "creaming their pants" over QSC. I remember people being very underwhelmed by the design, but happy to have a new tower.
  3. The sound garden should be cool
  4. I believe the rumors. They make sense. I am really hoping that 3CDC takes the residential tower idea to a different location in the CBD within the next year. There are plenty of surface lots.
  5. I saw them unloading the chandelier on Friday, but thought it was for the lobby. It looks very cool outside. Can't wait to see it lit up.
  6. The best view of the casino is from Central Pkwy/Vine facing East. It looks really great book ending the Parkway.
  7. We have zoning for a reason. It should be fairly simple. Just tell them no, any sign must comply with zoning ordinances. Problem solved. Also, I drove by the casino this morning and it looks pretty good. Reading in general looks a lot better than it did a year ago. The Gilbert side not so much.
  8. Anyone have any info on the restaurant going in next to Cumin on Erie Ave? Lots of work going on there.
  9. The casino is requesting a zoning variance in order to construct an 80 foot, tacky sign. http://www.urbancincy.com/2012/10/horseshoe-casino-cincinnati-requesting-80-foot-sign/
  10. I am sure that this was intentional in order to feed the "Ohio as rust belt" story line that the media loves when talking about Ohio in the context of the election. It's a shame because Cincinnati is really beautiful this time of the year. Too bad the political shows will be in seach of old factories and railroad bridges as backdrops when they come to town.
  11. This is ridiculous. Kroger is an incredible corporate citizen for this city and we are damn lucky to have them here. They are committed to downtown and the city and are the number 1 reason why Dunhumby is here in the first place. They were building condos in OTR before it was cool to build condos in OTR. If they aren't ready to build a store in the CBD there is probably a good reason.
  12. and to think - he lives in neither Blue Ash nor Cincinnati..... I assume that he will file his suit on behalf of some taxpayer that lives in the City. Finney lives in Anderson and probably wouldn't have standing to file the suit on his own behalf.
  13. ^Dammit. You are right. It would be so easy to align these apartments in a more appealing way by creating a couple of rows of new through streets. Why didn't they just do that? Why didn't the City require them to do that?
  14. I was surprised to see this rendering of the residential component of this project. It looks good. Oakley Station gets slammed on this site so much I wasnt expecting a decent apartment design. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20121010/BIZ/310090134&Ref=AR
  15. The Bills are the 27th ranked defense. They may have some big names, but they aren't scaring anyone. Mario Williams isn't a dominant player anymore. Profootballfocus ranks him as a below average pass rusher this season. Philly's defense is good though.
  16. Statistically, the Browns' schedule is harder because they have to play the Bengals twice, while the Bengals get to play the Browns twice. That being said, I think the next Bengal/Brown game in Cleveland is going to be a really good game and I don't have a good feeling about it as a Bengal fan.
  17. Your solution to a small sample size is to make the sample size even smaller? You removed Weeden's worst game and Dalton's best game from the comparison. Looking at all of the games. Dalton is the leagues' 5th rated passer with a 103 QB rating. Weeden is ranked dead last in the league with a 60.4 QB rating. ESPN's strange "QBR" rating system ranks Dalton 4th in the NFL and Weeden again last in the NFL. I agree that AJ Green is one of the 2 or 3 best WRs in the league and Greg Little is maybe the worst #1 WR in the league. But the QB position is much more important, and Dalton's advantage over Weeden right now is more important than Green's advantage over Little. If I had to choose between Green missing the rest of the season with an injury or Dalton missing the rest of the season with an injury (knock on wood), I would say goodbye to Green in heartbeat.
  18. I think that the Bengals' advantage at QB over Weeden is more significant than the advantage AJ Green is over the Browns' #1 WR. Dalton is really good.
  19. The Browns have picked higher (or would have if not for trades) in all but 3 of the last 10 drafts, but the Bengals being (barely) worse than the Browns in 2010 was the reason the Bengals won? There was a WR named Julio Jones available when the Browns picked in that draft, but the Browns decided to trade down for solid, but unspectacular linemen.
  20. Where is this building going to go? Location please?
  21. ^ Solid addition. I have heard good things about this place. I think that the nearest location is in DC.
  22. First, the "poor" and "homeless" are not considered to be protected classes under the 14th Amendment. So a law probably cannot be unconstitutional because it discriminates against the poor or the homeless. It would have to be shown to discriminate against a particular race, religion etc. Second, the Washington Park rules don't target the poor and the homeless. They target vagrants. There is a big difference. Poor people don't typically rummage through trash. Vagrants do.
  23. The City should welcome new businesses at Oakley Station, whether they are big box or bars/restaurants. But they absolutely should not be cutting the developers any breaks on liquor licenses or on City taxes. These are likely to be out-of-town chain restaurants who will be competing with the locally-owned places in HP/Oakley. Still, I think that the local businesses are being a little paranoid. Most people in the HP/Oakley area will favor the local places. I would not make a habit of eating or drinking at some soulless big box bar. It just isnt as fun as going to the locally owned dive. I never eat at the PF Changs, Bucca de Beppo, etc. etc. at Rookwood, and I am not going to start when a new slew of places goes in at Oakley Station. The type of person that goes to the big box restaurants isnt going to go to Habits or Zips anyway. So don't sweat it.
  24. Before we anoint Heinz Field the king of the 10 year old stadiums, keep in mind Heinz's major design flaw that cannot be corrected. Heinz is a frigid wind tunnel. Whoever designed it failed to properly account for the path of wind through its open end zone. It gets mighty cold in that stadium. The Great Hall looks nice, but it is essentially just some banners and cheap Lombardi Trophy replicas. That little bit of flair doesnt make up for the fact that PBS is just better architecturally, and is not a freaking wind tunnel. So the banners and tin trophy's in the Great Hall aside, I think that PBS is a better product.
  25. That does look cool, but PBS is more typical of NFL open-air concourses than Heinz. Keep in mind that Heinz Field is home to not only the Steelers (maybe the most popular team in the NFL), but also Pitt football. So it isnt surprising that more is invested in Heinz.
