I tune in occassionally. I refuse to watch Olberman - he's got way too much hate angst in him. But generally Maddow is better at providing her viewpoint without being disrespectful, although she can be smug at times.
  2. No work has been done on the construction site for several months now. I can't remember the last time I saw activity, but at least nothing since spring...maybe even before last winter.
  3. I feel exactly the same way. The environment you create will foster a culture in the community. This is why California is a very different place than Ohio, even though there are many Ohioans in California. Create a different environment and behavior can be changed...unless you don't care about homeless or crime and think everything is just fine.
  4. Yes, actually they are. Read the previous page in this thread. I agree, they are. And for good reason. They're letting themselves be brainwashed on this issue by the Republican machine. These "regular people" need to wake up and think for themselves. Let me know how the "wake up and think for yourself" approach works out for you when trying to convert someone against this project (or indifferent) into a supporter.
  5. Regular folks aren't "getting blasted for being ignorant or not understanding". Yes, actually they are. Read the previous page in this thread. Kasich can refuse refuse funding because most people are indifferent. If a vast majority were behind the project, he couldn't refuse the funds that easily without making a major political error. But when trying to drum up support to influence Kasich to accept the funds and using the current reasons, you're not getting anywhere. So why not try a different approach? This is the point brutus_buckeye was making before he was told his line of thought was laughable.
  6. Actually, the disconnect exists between Ohio and the rest of the civilized world. Ohio isn't developing 3C rail ANY DIFFERENTLY than any other introductory train services elsewhere in the U.S. Indeed Ohio is imitating how other successful train services were introduced -- through evolution from modest beginnings. While other states used their own state-taxpayer funds, Ohio has available to it a no-match federal grant to catch up to other states. If we fumble this, we will never have such an opportunity to catch up again. It's time that critics stopped, listened and learned about this "building-block" approach that other states have undertaken to evolve toward high-speed rail. Why the disconnect exists is not relevant. The point is, there is a disconnect and the current method of promotion is not working for the 3-C project. but instead of taking a different approach, rail advocates are continually beating the same drum...and when regular folks don't get it, they're blasted for being ignorant or not understanding "this is how it's done". Reminds me of that guy in Office Space screaming at the 2 Bob's "I'M A PEOPLE PERSON. I DEAL WELL WITH PEOPLE." Look, I support rail and this project. But the fact remains, even when I try to talk to ALL (not most, or some, but all) of my friends about this they all say the same thing "why wouldn't I just drive?" The only remotely successful argument I've made is for my Cleveland friends, getting a head start on tailgating when going to Buckeye games

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmonsnfl2010/week10picks&sportCat=nfl BROWNS (+3) over Jets Let's say the Browns win this one. Just throwing this out there … 2001 Pats after Week 10: 5-5 2010 Browns after Week 10: 4-5 2001 Pats coach: Bill Belichick (second job, defensive guru) 2010 Browns coach: Eric Mangini (second job, defensive guru) 2001 Pats QB: Tom Brady (first career start: Week 3) 2010 Browns QB: Colt McCoy (first career start: Week 6) 2001 Pats DVOA rating: 16th overall 2010 Browns DVOA rating (through Week 9): 14th overall 2001 Pats fans: severely, hopelessly tortured 2010 Browns fans: severely, hopelessly tortured (Fine, fine -- it's a total reach. You're right. But McCoy really impressed me in that Pats game. Confident, mobile, fast, spunky … I think he could make a good transition girlfriend for the Cleveland fans as they continue to lick their post-Decision wounds. You don't want to marry Colt McCoy, but you can date him for a couple of years, cry into his arms and know that he'll never leave you. You're right, this is getting weird.)

I'm waiting for the interveiw with LeBron with the question "so you left Cleveland, burned a bunch of bridges, and came to Miami for the opportunity to play with Wade/Bosh and win a championship. Except Miami is not as good as Cleveland was last year. Do you regret your decision?"

Why was it given to county execs? Is there more to this? As a place to use that wasn't a hotel. http://www.woio.com/global/video/popup/pop_playerLaunch.asp?vt1=v&clipFormat=flv&clipId1=5285137&at1=News&h1=County Corruption Investigation deathbed deposition&flvUri=&partnerclipid= The part that makes me think "hmmm...not quite right" is they say they had use of the condo for 5 years when the building is only 3 years old. Plus, like I said, I never heard anything crazy going on there. I guess if they're going in there to just play poker and bang some hookers I wouldn't anyway, but something seems off.

I don't think it's less of a rivalry for them, but Michigan students are very different than Ohio State students. I dated a girl who went to Michigan during college. I can't tell you how many times I would be on campus after games and see legions of students leaving the stadium with backpacks. The first time I saw it I asked her "isn't it kind of obvious trying to sneak liquor into the stadium in your backpack?". She said "they all go to the library after the game." I was dumbfounded.

OSU pretty much gets a better game from MAC teams these days...

19 Action News was just in my condo getting footage of our unit/view. We are next door to the old model which apparently was given to county executives to use, although I've lived here since the building was opened and never noticed any large parties. I did notice the door was open and lights were on a couple times later in the evening, but thought the agent just forgot to close it down.

some would word it differently Yeah, like "once again the apathy, careless, disrespectful, and ignorant behavior of the majority of people in urban neighborhoods comnbined with the poor civic leadership displayed by core cities elected leaders is forcing urban dwellers to segregate themselves from these populations until they demostrate they can be a responsible community withing the larger social system." I'll be quite honest - I live in Cleveland in what should be one of the better maintained neighborhoods as there are a lot of responsible, caring members of the community living in the area. But the city services and utter disregard for its residents by the city of Cleveland is discouraging. I can't tell yu how many times I've called about simple issues - the same issues like picking up leaves to prevent clogging sewage drains to avoid flooded streets after big rains - but it's not like it ever gets done unless A) I do it myself or B) I call. At some point, people just want to live where they live and not have to be so engaged in these sorts of things. But in the cities, you have to work to make your community a good place. In the suburbs, you can just live there. Until that changes, you'll see voting along these lines.
  15. You had a baby? Who knew? Congrats! Are you guys in a space where you can rent out the downtown unit and buy a second? Or would you just move in with your parents, collect rent and pay down the mortgage? Yeah, he's 5 weeks old today...I guess I didn't mention it here. He's presently having reflux issues and we've been at the Clinic all week. Welcome to parenting! But I guess that is for another thread... As for the condo, we could rent it out and buy another place. I could rent it to cover the mortage but not enough to cover mortgage + HOA dues so I would be eating those. My parents - now that we're all out of college - downsized to a 2 bedroom townhouse so that would be kind of cramped. If they were still in our old house, I totally would have moved into the basement and socked away a bunch of cash for a sick house once we could sell the condo, but alas, that ship has sailed!
  16. I'd like to sell my condo but unless I want to take a bath on it, I'll have to rent it out until the real estate market recovers. The reason I am considering renting/selling my condo is I may be taking a new job which will require me to travel a lot more and we'll need to move closer to my parents to help my wife out with our son since I'll be gone. I thought I might get laid off for a time (I didn't) but all of the networking seems to have unearthed some new opportunities anyway.
  17. I think the key, like Johio mentioned, is shifting the message as to why we need 3-C. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39970363/ns/business-autos/

Maybe it's time to consider your view should be revisited and listen to what people with opposing views think rather than this doom and gloom attitude. I mean, most of you just spent 2 years slamming "the party of no" and now you're acting just like them. Strickland wasn't getting the job done. If Kasich doesn't get the job done either, he'll be gone too.
  19. ^ I think by "bury" he meant rip out the concrete, put soil on top, and grow grass. I agree with the concept, but somehow think there's way too much red tape for that with Superior being a US federal route.

I sold my tickets for a whopping $12.50 on ebay. Pathetic. $12.50 for opening night against the Celtics. I can only imagine what I'm going to get for a Tuesday night against Sacramento...$4,000 down the drain... Jesus you're pessimestic....why did you by the tickets if you didnt want to go to the games? I didn't think this needed to be explained, but OK. I renewed my season tickets from last year to ensure playoff tickets. I thought LeBron would stay, but even if he left, I at least though I could sell the games I couldn't go to for close to face value. It's tough to make all home games anyway, and even tougher to motivate yourself to go to every home game when the team is only average at best. However when you can't sell opening night tickets against a premiere team in the league for more $6.25 (that retail between $41 - $60 depending on who they are playing) you quickly realize you're going to eat most, if not all, of the games you can't go to. And since I have a 3 week old baby at home, getting out to Cavs games isn't as easy as it was. But if you're pumped and optimistic for this year's Cavs, feel free to PM me - I have tickets for sale! Sec 228, row 8, seats 12 & 13 (on the aisle).

  22. ^ I was thinking along those lines too. And that it kind of devalue's throttling Purdue when you let Wisconsin run all over you the week before.

Great news! And nice work on any influence you/All Aboard Ohio had in getting this boost towards public transit...
  24. OK, so it happens everywhere, they are harmless, and we should just get over it. I can feel Public Square getting busier already
