Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Perhaps if the develper was as noble and good intentioned as you're making them out to be, you wouldn't have to lean on them at all - you could just suggest it and they would say, "yeah, we need to do something about that."

Cleveland Browns Discussion
That's exactly right. The Browns have been ahead of each game they've played in the second half...it's just a matter of finishing. Get a full 60 minutes in and work that ground game in the 2nd half and they have a legit chance to win more than they lose.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Where did you get this information? This is completely wrong. The benefits to freight traffic (which will be carried on the same line) have been enumerated countless times in this thread. More people don't take public transit because good public transit isn't available. That's the key. It would be nice if this was in conjunction with an overall shift in transit funding. I still think the best idea for "The Stimulus" would to have spent it exclusively on building out rail lines in urban areas and watch the growth syphon off of that.

Mayfield: Progressive Planning Expansion
Progressive, and HR people in general, are having a hard time looking outside the box and identifying people who are capable of doing the job required vs. finding people who have done that exact job before.

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
So I looked at my keys to check how many I want to make a copy of and what do you know? Cleveland Key, 1628 St. Clair stamped right on there! That seems to be the closest - thanks!

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
Is there anywhere downtown where you can get a copy of a key made?

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
If that's how you feel, then by all means lobby your Assemblyman to ban that type of music in public clubs. I have never heard such disdain for the preferences of others as I have in this thread. I hope you don't style yourself open-minded after making this kind of statement: in this country, if we don't like certain types of expression, we are free to avoid them. None of us should abide the likening another's speech, music or expression to more serious crimes. Rap music is not rat food and catcalling is not rape. We must draw reasonable boundaries as to where our rights end and where others' begin--in this country, one has no reasonable expectation of privacy when words have been spoken; the balancing factor is that no one may similarly expect not to be offended by anyone's expression. I'm going to say this again: why is it such a hard concept for people to simply accept others' preferences and live and let live? If you are offended by the debauchery of West 6th Street, you have two options: (1) buy property there and try to make a concerted change, or (2) avoid exposing yourself to that atmosphere. The third option, to complain and clamor about rude people until the police are politically pressured to club and tazer people until no one shows up anymore, is not a legitimate option in my book. This isn't about restricting personal expression or respecting personal tastes. I like rap music and listen to it all the time. I also don't behave like a degenerate. Your answer to avoiding debauchery is to not go somewhere it exists while the answer should be "don't engage in debauchery". However it's clear that many people aren't capable of behaving appropriately so what do we do about it? Like with anything else, if a crowd can't handle the responsibility that comes with something, then you take it away. So if the crowd that likes this type of club can't behave appropriately, then you take it away.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Rail, and public transit in general, is like technology in a sense...it's only as valuable as the number of people who have it. Like the telephone...having a telephone is useless if no one else has one. Who are you going to call? The first person needs to get a phone - that may have 0 value - in order to make telephones valuable. So the point is, you have to start somewhere...they didn't just pass out free telephones to every household at first.

Only with my cell phone and they didn't turn out too great since it was dark out. I'll see if I can get some tonight with an actual camera.

Pet Peeves!
1 - No, they aren't older. 2 - If you're avoiding the stairs b/c of knee pain and balance that is one thing. But that doesn't apply when you're heading to the gym to hop on the stairmaster, treadmill, do lunges, squats, etc.

Pet Peeves!
^ This is in my condo building where you can come and go from the stairs as you please.

Pet Peeves!
Oh man...huge annoyance. Even more annoying when they use the elevator to take it 1 floor when they are going to the gym! Our gym is on the 4th floor...I've seen people get on the elevator on 5 just to take it 1 floor before they go work out. Amazing.

New York City November 11th-14th. need ideas...
I'm married and go to NYC a couple times a year with my wife to visit friends. We take the RTA to the airport here in Cleveland. But you want to take a taxi from LGA to your hotel...it's just easier for your mental health. It'll be ~$20 + tip. You'll get plenty of public transit color during the rest of your trip.

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
All of Cuyahoga County should be upset and, from what I can tell, they are. Many of the bad decisions by the county effected Cleveland more than the suburbs, so why shouldn't Mayor Jackson say something? I would say Frank Jackson was singled out here because this is the "Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson" thread and not the "Cleveland: Suburban Mayors" thread.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^ You mean the article that said "...are putting the final touches on their financing package and still hope to break ground within a few months"? You could find that sentence from any article between 2007 and today. They don't have the money yet, hence the agenda item on the city council meeting. Any plan today is only an idea until they get the money to start construction.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I thought it included a parking garage too. Yeah, not much, I know. Still, it'd be great to see at least SOME progress with phase 1, even if the office building fell through. Like Hts said though, it is just an unknown source so hopefully things still go as planned. So what is "the plan"? It seems like more of an idea right now. A lot of time has passed since the original plan was rolled out (Phase 1 was originally slated to be done last month) that I don't think it's valid anymore. I'm sure something will eventually get built down there, but at this point I think what and when is anyone's guess.

Cleveland: Tremont Questions
Elementary schools you can get by with...but then it's off to middle school where it can get dicey and then high school where it gets horrid. Once you stop having kids in your school who are not influenced by the neighborhood the school is in, things go downhill quickly.

I get my hair cut in The Leader Building (E 6th and Superior) - the guy's name is Peter. Cut is good and I like the old fashion neck/hairline razor shave. He charges $19.

Cleveland: Tremont Questions
For #4 & 5...does it ever get to a point where you don't have to ask that question or worry about getting your car window bashed in? I feel like there is still a fringe element in and around Tremont that doesn't seem to go away...like they have strong holds on certain parts of the neighborhood and that's that.

Cuyahoga County: Corruption Probe
It's the new model of being a "gangster". The network is more thin these days - in terms of a central authority...and they're not really gangsters like in the 50's. But it has the same structure - "I'll owe you" type of thing. They lean on each other for a mutual benefit. At the end of the day, this is what happens when you live in a 1 party town. The "problem" is the Democratic Political Machine in Cuyahoga County. You take out one or two of the leaders and there are new ones ready to step in. The network runs deeper than you can imagine and let's face it - people in the county are voting for the Democrats no matter who they trot out there. Let's not forget all of this about DiMora and Russo isn't really "new" yet they easily won their last elections. There isn't a lot of turnover in the County either. A high percentage of people who live here have been in the area for multiple generations. There isn't a mass of new Non-Native Ohioans moving in that can cycle these cadidates out of office. Whoever controls the Democratic party has all of the power. Maybe there will be a little in-fighting until 1 group takes control of the party, but after that, we'll be right back to where we are now. There's no opposition to the party. Manuever your way into office and then you start making moves to stay in office. And that means appointing people you know and can influence, supporting candidates you know and can influence, etc. My dad was an elected official here for 20 years...I know how it works all too well.
