Japanese moving to northeast ohio - Help Please
There is a Japanese Language School in South Euclid...you might want to call them and ask where the majority of their students live. But I agree with the above...might add Solon to the list too.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
I ride my bike to work everyday. Up hills, over bridges, and into downtown. I think a PED lane on the new innerbelt bridge would be great. But frankly, I'm not that upset it's not included. It's an extra 1/2 mile to take LC compared to the innerbelt bridge. I see that as negligible. And it's not like - as others have mentioned - the existing roads (cough, Carnegie, Ontario cough) are biker's paradise now anyway so why don't we campaign to fix and re-pave existing roads complete with dedicated bike lanes before we get our panties in a bunch about the lack of a bike lane on the new bridge? And more importantly, I wish more bikers would start to obey traffic and safety laws. Maybe once we stop thumbing our nose at ODOT and their silly laws and regulations they'll stop thumbing their nose at us.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ Yeah, police officer or not, you're well within your rights to not allow people on your property for whatever reason you want. Not to mention off duty police officers are only allowed to carry weapons b/c they have obtained their license, which is available to regular citizens as well.

Cuyahoga County: Corruption Probe
http://www.cleveland.com/countyincrisis/index.ssf/2010/09/county_commissioner_jimmy_dimo_1.html Well, DiMora was arrested this morning by the FBI. Wonder why he gets the dog and pony show while Russo did not?

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Pretty exciting. I wonder if all of this activity/development in the flats will prompt the city to re-pave the roads, put in some curbs/sidewalks, remove concrete barriers & chain link fences, pick up litter, etc. A facelift alone would make a big difference.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
3 things to work on it practice: - Throwing the ball away is always better than throwing it to the other team - Don't fumble - When the other team fumbles, the ball squirts out away from the scrum, and the entire opposing team is on the ground tied up in the scrum, PICK THE BALL UP AND RUN!

You're right on the fringe on when potential trouble starts happening. Not every night is bad, but if it is bad, it's post 1am. I don't know what time Club Alchemey (in the flats, next to the Flat Iron) opens, but on Saturday almost like clockwork, it goes from dead to tons of people hanging out in the parking lot outside around 1am. It's weird how they aren't arriving and waiting to go in. It's arriving, socializing in the parking lot while some people come in and out of the club. Like the club is one venue and the parking lot is another. If I'm home and awake at 1am, I've sat on the stonebridge and observed from afar. It's rather entertaining. Anyway, the crowd on W 6th causing problems is the same crowd that shows up at 1am at Club Alchemey. Apparently 1am is the time to be out!

No, one's opinion about the underlying act does not matter in determining whether it should be allowed or not. You can't pick and choose what freedom of expression is and isn't permissible.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I've been to a few churrascaria's in other cities (Fogo de Chao & Texas de Brazil in Dallas and Chima's in Ft Lauderdale) and comparing those to Brasa, I would not reccommend Brasa. The Gaucho's don't come around as often, the meat simply wasn't on par with the other places, and as one who goes to those types of places to, quite simply, overindulge, I find the "table card" compared to the "individual card" to be really annoying (they come around when they think the table is ready, regardless if 1 or 2 people alone want more). I'm not saying Brasa is "bad", but I get really excited to go to say, Chima's, and make it a point to go there when in Ft. Lauderdale. I would not do the same for Brasa. I've been downtown for group events at Sushi Rock, Greenhouse Tavern, Metro, and Chophouse and thought each of those places did well with a group of your size. My wife also had her bachelorette party at Lolita (not downtown, but not far) and had a great experience (I suspect Lola would be just as good, however more expensive).

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
There's a huge difference in large crowds in an entertainment district with people being dumb, drunk, and rude and what we've seen this summer in the WHD where after 1am, everyone starts to get on edge and concerned for their safety. Go to the west end of Lakewood or Coventry any weekend and all the bars close at the same time and most people coming out of the bar at that time are pretty drunk. Go to any college campus and you see the same thing. But the environment is vastly different than what you see in the WHD. There isn't this subculture of people who are just going down there to see what they can get into at 1 am.

South Bass Island - a few vacation photos
Looks like a good trip! A some color in regards to the photos: The Tiki Hut you reference in the picture....I think it's called "Mojito Bay". It's new this year and has mixed reviews. I haven't heard any complaints about the roof, but the bar stools are swings and apparently not too comfortable. And the "floor" is all sand which I guess gets messy and hard to clean up. The monument is under renovation. You can see in the close up picture you have the bottom left corner of one of the blocks in the rotunda is chipped away. It actually fell off a couple years ago (no one was hurt). The park system reviewed the structure and decided it was time for some structural maintenance. They're hoping to have it completely done for the bicentential anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie (2013). Hotel Victory ruins...a lesser known historic site. It was a once one of the largest hotels in the country and really popular among the upper class...in fact the Island was a popular destination for well to do businessmen and politicians in the 1800's with Hotel Victory being the hotel du juor. Unfortunately - like many Island buildings - it burned to the ground. Many grand historical buildings went to ruin due to some tragedy...Hotel Victory and the Old Lonz Winery you have pictured. The Colonial was another one that burned to the ground and they built what is now The Beer Barrell/Tippers in its place...and unfortunately they built it as quickly as possible and we have what is now this bland tacky building instead of the old historic one. Here's a picture: http://www.putinbayphotos.com/histpics/s_colonia1.jpg (there's a lot of cool photos on that site too, FYI) And the house you labeled as your favorite...it would probably be your wife's favorite too if you got to see the inside! What is what I would describe as "the left" side of the house is a (relatively) new addition to the original structure. The interior was totally redone...and of course it has a great harbor view. Did you go in the Dollar House? I believe it's open to the public as part of the winery next door. Pretty cool old house with a lot of Island History. I had my wedding reception there too!

South Bass Island - a few vacation photos
There's an antique car club on the Island and a parade every Sunday (2pm) with all of the antique cars. Usually about 50-75 cars in the parade...the one this past Sunday (and Monday for the holiday) is typically the biggest of the year. Some of them more antique than others (you only have to be 25 years old to qualify for a historical plate) but still a pretty good collection...if you're ever in the area on a Sunday...

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
I've heard many similar stories from friends about their experience at the WHD this summer. It seems there's a large crowd that just shows up starting around 12:30/1 for no other reason than to just mill around and it's causing all kinds of problems. And it escalates as people are trying to leave and bar staff are trying to get people to get out as there are mobs of people in the way, some coming from insude bars/clubs and some just coming from around town to do...who knows what. Not sure what the solution is...closing the street to traffic from Lakeside to St Clair I think would be a start.

Downtown Cleveland & Vicinity for Visitors
I would print out MayDay's post and just follow it around, except I like Commodore Perry more than Burning River as a Pale Ale is concerned (Island roots perhaps giving me a bias) but prefer Eliot Ness to all of them ;) Not much of a live music person, but I have been to Brothers and it seemed like a cool place for the local band type of thing.

NEO Colleges and Universities.. Where do the students of NEO Flock to?
My yearbook listed where everyone was going to school from the graduating class. The predominant schools (more than 10 kids) were OSU, OU, Miami, Kent and Dayton from what I remember. I think OU and Kent had the highest penetration. Outside of that, there were people who went literally all over the country. I would guess 15 different states were represented in pretty much every region...except I don't think anyone went to the Pacific Northwest. Just in my family - 4 kids - we went to undergrad in Michigan, Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania and graduate school in Arizona, Illinois, and Ohio.

Cleveland: Compulsory recycling program
wondering how they are going to deal with the huge dumpsters that get emptied twice a week from our building. I'd love to recycle, but at I have to take my recycle bins to a different location. Even when I recycle at work - in the blue paper/aluminum can bin - I've seen the people at night come around and collect it and throw it all in the same recepticle. If this isn't a ploy to make more money, then I don't know what is.
