^ Yes. When Rondo is wreaking havoc and the outside shooting is going as poorly as it did in game 4, why Moon or even Boobie don't get 10-15 minutes of PT in an attempt to 1) give Rondo a different look and 2) make some outside jumpers when no one else connecting is beyond me and 100% falls on Brown. Parker was ineffective all the way around and should have been yanked early yesterday. Other games when Shaq has been ineffective, he remains on the floor. There's a stubborness to his coaching methods and 0 ability to make adjustments in game when the initial game plan isn't working.

I've gone to 3 games this year...the ticket deals are really good. Tuesday I went and had an upper deck ticket and they just gave me (and anyone else) who wanted to move down a new ticket as you walked in. Went for the lunch and 3 innings deal Wednesday and just sat in right field (in the sun) rather than going upstairs. Bought a sweatshirt at the team shop yesterday and they gave me a voucher for 2 free tickets to any game in May or June in the Mezzanine level. It's still a great stadium, the Indians are bad, but still competitive, and it's the cheapest pro ticket in town...support the local teams!

Do you think you will find that in Westlake?
  4. That we don't care what specifically it is made of or what the technical term for the amterial is; it still looks like sh!t.
  5. Couldn't agree more. I tried...I really, really tried...to use the RTA daily. It became too challenging. Route cuts were only a small part of it...reality is it's just not a user friendly, high customer service enterprise. Reminds me of the Bill Murray line in Stripes..."Get a job in the private sector? But they expect results!"
  6. No, they just had the work on the ship done in in the shipyard here in Cleveland. It's a 5 hour ride from Cleveland to the dock on PIB via that ferry. I found a flickr photo page : http://www.flickr.com/photos/millerferryputinbay/ and a brief article: http://marinelink.com/news/article/great-lakes-shipyard-reconstructs-put-in-bay/334090.aspx
  7. I'm putting this here b/c I couldn't find another thread for it, didn't want to start a new one, and it's technically in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood... I attended the dedication of the M/V Put-in-Bay yesterday at the Great Lakes Shipyard and came away pretty excited about the work they are doing there. The M/V PIB had a 40 ft middle extension added, along with a complete repowering of the engine equipment. I knew all about the project; what I didn't know about was the shipyard itself...even though its less than a mile from where I live. [Add: The M/V Put-in-Bay is one ship in the Miller Boat Line Fleet, the ferry service running from Catawba to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island. They extended the boat to 136 ft to allow for 8 more cars or more large delivery trucks or construction vehicles. They offer round trip passenger service to PIB for $13. And if you're looking for somewhere to enjoy the waterfront, there's nowhere better than PIB.] The Great Lakes Towing Company operates a full service shipyard and drydock specializing in marine construction and repairs for vessels - large yachts, tugboats, supply boats, ferries, barges, etc. They recently completed Phase I of their expansion, building new office facilities and fabrication shops. They are in the middle of Phase II which will feature the largest mobile hoist on the Great Lakes with a capacity of 700 metric tons and excavated boat slip. This will allow for work to be done on up to 10 boats at a time, from USCG, government vessels, research ships, barges, and the like. They have also acquired 2 acres of waterfront property for a future phase III, where they plan on building a 65,000 sq ft all weather facility to permit year round production. The building plans have been approved by the City of Cleveland and a $500,000 grant has been awarded by the federal government. Also incorporated into the design are new office and warehouse facilities to be used to support the Case Western Reserve Wind Energy and Control Systems Center for monitoring, maintaining, and operating wind turbines. Phase III is expected to be completed next year and should allow the shipyard production to grow, required an additional 100 employees. The shipyard has also partnered with the Max Hayes vocational school whose course of instruction includes welding and diesel engine mechanic training, all skills needed for in a shipyard. Here are a couple pictures I took with my cell phone.

We tried to make reservations last Thursday at multiple locations downtown for dinner following the game and each was booked. We ended up going to Tremont instead, which was still pretty busy (we went to the Prosperity Club). So yeah, I'm going to chalk this one up to being bitter your team is going to get humiliated in round 1. I did see Vinny Del Negro and some fellow coaches out yesterday afternoon, so it looks as though someone within the Bulls organization can find something to do while in town.
  9. my Mom would disagree. They sent her 2 different debit cards and neither were connected to her account. Surprised they got them out that fast...quick turn around between Friday and today (or presumably yesterday).

looks perfect to me! I love the weather here. My only complaint is that once it hits winter, it would stay below freezing until we're ready for spring and then not retrun to below freezing until next winter.
  11. From a customer perspective, the conversion was seamless...a new debit card that I could activate at the ATM and getting used to the new online banking format...pretty painless.
  12. My family runs a cemetery/crematory/mausoleum so maybe I'm just a little less sensitive to this, but I think it could be a cool exhibit. Also you would be surprised as to the volume of unclaimed remains (which, obviously, were formerly bodies) that are at the cemetery. It's not uncommon to have an uncliamed body that one might use for something of this nature.
  13. I heard today the Tenk Machine building has a sale pending. The buyer intends to rehab the entire building and use it for 1) storage for some equipment for an existing business, 2) a recording studio, and 3) a music venue, like a Peabody's (or potentially another Peabody's location...this was unclear to me). Won't close on the building for 60 days and then they'll get started on working on the building...
  14. Those were great...love the shots of muncipal stadium! I still think I like it better than the current, sterile, Corporate, Browns stadium. Oddly the only WS game I went to in 95 was game 6 in Atlanta...my grandfather had season tickets and took me. I had the unfortunate experience of being at the game where the other team clinched the title, on their home field none the less. At least I didn't get any crap during/after the game (I was wearing a Lofton jersey)...I guess when your team loses, everyone else is too happy to care!

Right, it's just sports, but without a winning Cavaliers franchise, the city loses 41+ nights a year when 20,000+ people, many of them from out-of-town, head downtown to spend their entertainment dollars. It's just sports, but it has a significant economic impact. Yes...it's just sports, but it's also a major corporation (3 of them) operating right downtown. I just sold my Celtics/Cavs tickets Sunday for $200 ($55 face value) to some guy from New Jersey. I doubt that guy is coming to Cleveland this weekend if the Cavs stink.
  16. That was our Friday night plan in high school too...drive into East Cleveland and buy beer. Never denied or carded once. Was a great plan until, ironically, we were mugged leaving the convienence store...the person wanted our beer. But the lack of a central authority figure will generally cause a city or neighborhood's demise.
  17. Glad to see Solon still doing well...

I can't believe this is even a thread. The NBA's popularity is significantly greater than the NHL's. It' not even close. The NBA has 3 major TV contracts (if you count ESPN and ABC as two). NHL has VS, which I wouldn't consider major, and occassional Sunday games on NBC which get poor ratings. Citing the attendence figures really has nothing to do with overall popularity. However, have you factored in capacity? The Cavs have sold out every game. 20,562/game. So have the Canadiens. 21,273/game. That matters. I mean, the Indians averaged more fans last year/game than the Cavs do this year...are they more popular?
  19. Looks pretty good! I need to make a point to head over that way and check it out in person. I can only imagine the benefit to downtown (and to the University) if CSU became a full fledged residential campus.
  20. 21. I think the key point in all of this debate is this: will, once the $400 million is spent and the 3-C has its initial phase up and running, the State of Ohio make a commitment to shifting its transportation policies towards more equally distributed transportation spending? Will they make a commitment to making rail successful? The reason driving is "easier" and the countless "I won't take this b/c I'd just rather drive" excuses come up is b/c the State (and federal) government make driving easier. If the legislature changes it's tune and spends more money on transit, then train travel will become easier. All of this back and forth really doesn't amount to "will it or won't it work", it's more "will the government make it work or won't it"?

Missed FT and lots of missed baskets right at the rim. The FT's are unacceptable, although I take solace in knowing the Cavs basically played a bad game and still only lost on a last second shot in OT. LeBron and Shaq missed maybe 5 quality shots from inside 3 feet in the 1Q...they looked rusty, and maybe somewhat unfocused after a week layoff. Curious to see how they look against Charlotte tonight - a team who they are 1-2 against this year. I'm hoping for "we're pissed, and we're taking it out on you".
  23. Forbes is from NJ...I'm sure he gives them hometown bias on the editing table... Good article by Morris.
  24. I wouldn't know where to begin on how to structure it, but effectively this is how Texas became a thriving economy. They lured tech firms from CA and the Northeast to their State with the "hey, no state income tax!" bit. Dallas and it's suburbs took ads out in Silicon Valley publications for this reason alone. Granted, they make up for it elsewhere (lots of toll roads, increased sales tax) but it worked. There are tons of assets Ohio has already; those need to be capitalized on and something needs to change to start making some progress towards utilizing those assets. Why not look at the tax structure? You can see it's impact in Texas...businesses are even moving out of NYC to NJ for similar reasons.
