This is the best description I have seen yet.
  2. Glad to see the DCA getting some funds...I think they do good work.
  3. A chronological resume is not the only way to go. You can structure your resume around accomplishments and is often a good way to tailor your resume for a job that is outside of your past work experience. So let's say you were a financial analyst but wanted to go into marketing. Instead of listing you job and what you did there, organize it by topics and state what you did. Like "Customer Service" and list items you had to do as a financial analyst that pertain to that. Or "Project Management" and discuss that. This way, you're not describing a specific role, but rather accomplishments/skill sets that pertain to the role you're applying for. You can list your work experience at the end and it shows no time lapses and reflects the skills you developed in those jobs that apply for the the position you want, rather than box you into the specific role you have been doing.

  5. Go Vikings! They looked good in all 3 games against Butler, a legitimate top 25 team. I wouldn't hesitate to pick them to win a tournament game depending on the match-up. Now if OU can pull a miracle run in the MAC tournamanet I could have both alma-mater's in the dance!
  6. Having lived in Dallas for 5.5 years, I can confirm its a fact. http://www.30kmillionaires.com/

Yup...this was the first things that struck me while living in Holland. Instead of going to the store once a week to get everything I need, I was going every couple days to get what I need. Plus the grocery stores don't provide shopping bags so you bring your own. I only bought what could fit in my backpack or what I could put in the basket on my bike. The grocery store was a national chain (there was only one) and there were small versions of these stores pretty much everywhere so regardless of where you lived, it was likely there would be an Albert Heijn somewhere between your bus stop and your home.
  8. One of my favorite things...telling someone I don't plan on moving...ever. Particularly fun when speaking to my wife's family (Floridians) who can't fathom why someone would prefer Ohio to Florida. Of course, we only visit November-April when the weather in Florida is great as opposed to May-October when there's a thunderstorm every afternoon from 2-4pm, you can cut the humidity with a knife, and you might get pelted with the occasional hurricane.

I actually don't think the ferries are running yet (though it would be kind of cool to see what it's like during winter on the island). I don't think there is regular ferry service until April. The season is April through November. Correct - ferries don't start until March 27. Although you can fly or take the air boat in the winter. But probably not realistic on short notice (and winter on the Island is awesome, BTW...http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18347.0.html). I would 2nd RnR's reccommedation of the West Side Market Saturday morning. Explore the market, swing by Great Lakes for lunch...maybe go get a lane at Corner Alley, head to the game...sounds like fun to me!
  10. I completely agree. When I moved back to Cleveland, I intially moved back in with my parents (in suburbia....it's like the darkness is light...suburbia, am I scaring you tonight? suburbia, ain't used to what you like, suburbiaiaiaiaaaa.....) while I figured out where I wanted to live. When I eventually chose downtown as a permanent residence some people - life long Northeastern Ohioans - looked at me with alien eyes. "How are you going to walk your dogs?" "Uh...outside? On a leash?" Of course, they come over to hang out and explore the area and while I am not sure what they were expecting, of course their opinion changes and they love it.
  11. I am not tired of defending my city. Actually, it's one of my favorite topics (why I love Cleveland, that is) - in fact, I just took my mother-in-law out to lunch at Great Lakes and told her all that I know about Ohio City and the many wonderful things in the neighborhood. She loved the neighborhood, the architecture, the houses, the age. "We don't have anything old in Florida, other than people", she said. "I think its good for kids growing up to see character in their neighborhoods" (hinting towards the when will you be having kids theme). I do get a little tired of Cleveland giving me reasons to have to defend it, but I won't get tired of telling people how much I love it.
  12. See the thread regarding the discussion of local news/media in Cleveland (i.e., the PD is awful).

high school, year graduated...generated when I signed up for a high school football forum many, many years ago. easier to just keep screen names all the same so I don't forget.
  14. I've never even considered carrying a weapon. I've been mugged at gun point (not in Cleveland) and even if I had a weapon, it wasn't going to do me any good in that situation.
  15. So why make that post then if you agree that it looks sensational and you claim to hate the negativity? At least she responded with something more personal...
  16. ^Kent only lost 3 conference games last year... The MAC has done well in the tournament, at least I think. They've won some first round games which is pretty good considering they get a double digit seed. They seem to get snubbed come tournament time. I recall the year OU went (and was so, so close to upsetting Florida) Miami was the regular season champ and got stiffed. The last MAC game I attended was a tournamnet game last year in Cleveland and I thought it was well attended. Plus I am not sure how many arenas in the MAC hold more than 5,000 people. I don't think Kent does.

  18. I just got back from travelling out of the country and I tuned into cleveland.com to see what was going on (Monday). The headline when I logged on? Something about how hot dog sales were going to suffer on opening day this year because it was on a Friday during Lent. I didn't think they could get much more pathetic until I saw this story.

Congrats! I think we've all seen your passion about the work All Aboard Ohio does...it must be a thrill do be able to dedicate your full time efforts to something you love!
  20. I tore my left ACL in April 1997 playing basketball. Stole a pass, had a breakaway when someone came from behind me and pushed me in the air. My left leg landed straight and POP! It sucked - worst pain I've ever had. I recall reading somewhere at the time the only injury that causes more pain than a torn ACL is a compound fracture. I delayed surgery until December (winter break of OU). I do recall about 6-8 hours after surgery once the antisthtic wore off thinking I was never going to walk again I was in so much pain (strangely, morphine was not effective on me). After about the first week though I remember the pain being better. By the time I went back to school about 5 weeks later, I was getting around OK and I think I was without a knee brace 12 weeks after surgery. I played softball that summer and I seemed to be back to 100%...I guess that was 7 months after surgery. I think the most frustrating thing was staying patient. It gets to a point where you "feel" normal, but your muscles are not all the way back yet. Make sure you rehab daily, even on days when you don't go to the therapist. I guess it was easier for me b/c I was a student on break with nothing else to do. In January 2007 I had microfracture surgery on my right knee. No pain after surgery, but I coudn't walk on it for 6 weeks and rehab actually took longer than ACL b/c I had so much muscle atrophy. But both knees feel good now...I just don't participate in court sports anymore and limit myself to biking instead of jogging for exercise (or low impact cardio machines in the gym). Just stay positive!

Well, I don't know how much re-doing the flooring in your basement would cost, but if someone is writing a check for a home renovation project, I would not be surprised. A suitcase of cash...yeah. But I am not aware of that. But when the FBI shows up at you or your families office/house, starts making all kinds of accusations and using leading questions - i.e., you tell me what you know about this person and we'll make sure you're OK - when A) you aren't aware of any wrong doing on said person's part, and B) you don't have anything to hide yourself you start to think something fishy is going on with the reporting/investigating. Like they are searching - using fear as their motivator - looking for someone to give them something to work with b/c they haven't been able to find anything on their own.

When is doing work for cash illegal? Should they pay him in gift certificates? Again, always fun to watch people blast the PD or other local media for horrible journalism, then completely agree with it when they write something else of similar ilk just be/c you happen to *think* it's true.
  23. FWIW, I am travelling to the airport this evening during rush hour and specifically avoiding the train due to capacity issues. I'll be travelling for 2 weeks and have more bags than normal and am not willing to fight the crowd with my luggage. If it was the middle of the day, I wouldn't care, but it's hard enough during peak hours by yourself, let alone with an oversized suitcase and a folding bag.

Sorry to hear...keep your head up and start advertising yourself! While I don't have any specific leads for you, I was looking at the Area Temps website the other day as I was seeing "if I couldn't find anything else, what could I get through a temp agency". And while nothing was overly exciting, there were some decent leads that could get you in the door somewhere, especially if you were heading down the "I'll move home and live with my parents for a while until I can get my feet back under me" angle. And in the anecdotal FWIW note of the day, my brother did exactly that after college. Had to resort to a temp agency, eventually they hired him full time, and next thing you knew he was manager of the department. So it is possible...
