Some truth, but a little over the top. If the white candidate in this years election received 95% of the white vote - as the black candidate did from the black population - I might validate that opinion. Well, when you constitute 74% of the voting population (which was this year's figure that had the highest minority turnout ever) that should be expected.
  2. Oh. Zero percent is fine. I wouldn't put anything big on my credit card unless it's a real emergency. Even if I could pay it off in a month. Really why. I do it because I'm a points whore and I like the extended warranties, AMEX has. Yes - there is a lot to be made off of rewards programs. There's a lot of options with many points programs...I just got a $100 gift card to Morton's from National City. I average about 1 free flight per year on my Continental Mastercard. If you do it right and can manage your money well, there is no downside to using credit.
  3. why is borrowing money for free lame? I've intentionally financed things at 0% even though I've had the cash to flat out purchase it simply to earn interest.
  4. Also stores like Best Buy run ads every few months for 0% financing for 12-24 months. So a $1,000 for a TV when you actually pay $40-80/month is affordable for more people.

Reserves have yet to be named, but I think Mo has a chance to be named a reserve guard. Probably competing with Devin Harris, Jameer Nelson, and Joe Johnson for the guard spots.

    That is certainly exciting news!

I would like Mike Miller from 2008, not the injured 2009 version. Also.. we have plenty of guards, we don't need another swingman! Agree...I had Mike Miller on my fantasy team...I was forced to drop him. Injuries have been a part of it, but he's not even starting on a crappy Minnesota team anymore. I am not sure I would trade Wally though. One hopes the benefit of Z's injury is Hickson and Jackson can contribute key minutes in May and June due to increased playing time in January and February. Wally's allure in trade value is his expiring contract. That asset is just as valuable to the Cavs if he stays on the roster as it is to any another team if they trae for him. I'd rather sign a free agent in the off season than trade Wally for either of the Miller boys. Of course, this is all contingent on Z returning healthy.
  8. Ditto...I particularly enjoy the "Future NE Ohio Rail Line" shown on page 16.
  9. I understand and I'm not saying I necessarily disagree. But I think people coming in trying to shoplift was the underlying problem, rather than store hours. Same problem with Randall. Growing up Randall was easily the closest mall. In fact the house I lived in until I was 9 was less than 5 miles away and that's where we went to shop...until my mom was mugged leaving Toys R Us with Nintendo games. Then we started driving further away to shop, including Tower City. And guess what? Huge fight at the Tower City movie theater one night we were there and that's that. The fact remains - and I don't care what your books say or your financials indicate - if you're not open, you won't have business. So if you're not going to be open for regular business hours that your competition is adhereing to, don't expect to do well. You might as well just close period. The solution should involve "figure out how to get people in at all hours" not "operate part time to cut costs".
  10. I 100% support this unscientific research analysis. I will use myself as an example. While in the process of interviewing for my current job, I flew in for the interview. However, I forgot to bring a tie. Staying in a hotel downtown, I got there around 6:30pm, checked in, noticed that I forgot my tie, and went to Tower City. I think I got there shortly after 7:00pm only it was closed (this was a weeknight). WTF I thought...it's only 7:15? Fast forward to today - I live downtown. I can walk to Tower City. When I need something I might be able to find at Tower City, Tower City is not among my list of places I even consider going to find that item. So when I think "I need a new tie" and I start to process "when, where, etc" I will get said tie, Tower City never even occurs to me. I have subconsciously removed Tower City from options simply because it was closed that one time.
  11. I was just there (I had lunch twice at Lulu's during New Years week)...I did notice the broken escalator but it seemed busy to me? Granted I didn't pay any attention to the shops.
  12. I see people giving up their internet connection well before they give up cable TV...at least in terms of "mass population".

I was at the game last night and saw exactly what I wanted in the game leading up to the big match up with the Celtics - total dominaiton of a lower tier team, nice contributions from many people - Wally, Gibson, Mo, Andy, JJ. I don't think I've ever been more excited for a regular season game than I am for Friday!

I agree But that's also part of his point. One writer in the Times in 1894 estimated that in 50 years the streets of London would be buried under 3m of manure. In principle, this is the same doom and gloom prognostication that peak oil folks say. The point being, in 1894, chaos was reportedly going to ensue due to the mounting horse manure problem. It may seem silly, but consider how prominant the horse, horse and buggy, etc was during that time. No one had any idea what a "car" even was, let alone that it would solve the horse manure problem. So who is to say whatever the solution might be to eventual oil shortages is yet to be discovered? And once it is, why can't it be quickly implemented? Ask any company that has been affected by game changing innovation - you don't see these things coming, they just do and if you miss it - boom, you're done. There are many famous examples of this in other industries...I'm sure you didn't think in 1995 when you started transitioning your tapes to CD's that 10 years later, your CD's would effectively be rendered useless. Or that when 3M the adhesive company discovered the adhesive that was ultimately used for the post-it note they would delve into office supplies. Or that Kodak might want to look into that "digital camera" idea instead of focusing on the film side of photography. Point being, you don't know what will help solve this looming problem or where that solution will come from. So trying to rationalize it and explain what should happen based on what you know in today's existing environment is short sighted. the unknown is the biggest variable there is...unfortunately, it causes many people to panic.
  15. Couple things: 1. To all Stonebridge Residents: I have been hearing the lease on the 2020 portion of Stonebridge is up in January. To date, I personally have been disappointed with the place and I many others feel the same. So I encourage you to contact K&D to express your views and provide suggestions as to what you would like to see done with that space. 2. Those who live in the Plaza building: I feel we are past due for an HOA with owner representation. I believe we are over 25% sold (27 units) which is the threashold (by law) for having at least one position on the board be fillled by an owner. I've been talking to other residents and a few of are working on getting past meeting minutes, budget, expense reports, etc so we can be prepared when the appointment/election of an officer takes place. Once we have representation, we will have more visibility into decisions like the 2020 lease and other concerns/issues that are out there. If you would like to be actively involved, PM me and I can get you more information.
  16. I think this type of planning is exactly what the city of cleveland needs and the present environment provides a good opportunity to do it. There are so many existing places I want to go between where its just too far to walk, but the RTA takes just too long, so I drive (i.e, I just got back from Dave's to grab some beer. It's 1 mile from my place so just too far to walk for a quick trip but the timing for the RTA wouldn't be much faster than walking...so I drove). Bike or golf cart paths would be perfect. The RTA could save money and focus on more neighborhood to neighborhood routes and many of those circulators that they wanted to get rid of, could be eliminated or reduced. By replacing car with golf carts, you would cut down on sprawl type development (since you can't go quite as far), but it will still provide the "perks" of a car (go where you want, when you want, and easily trasport groceries, shopping bags, etc). On a broader scale, developers could pick out certain neighborhoods hit hard by foreclosures, buy up a lot of the land, and redevelop an entire neighborhood to be bike/golf cart friendly with renewed housing stock, or in some cases where the demad wasn't there, just demolish housing and put up parks...with ample golf cart and bike parking.

I was being facetious...frustrated the Cavs aren't getting as much attention as the crappy Browns, not only on this forum, but local talk radio and TV as well.

I've been amazed with the Cavs this season. Not only are they beating teams they should, but the have been destroying them. I'm anxiously awaiting January. So far, my only concern has been with who they have played. Yes, they are destroying the bad teams. But they are also losing to the better teams. I can justify Boston and N.O. since it was within the 1st 3 games of the year. But Detroit and Atlanta...needed to get those. Outside of that, we beat Dallas when they were playing poorly and Utah w/o Williams. Quality wins over Denver...and well, that's kind of it. Meanwhile, January has 8 of 14 games on the road, including a rough west coast trip against the Lakers, Portland, Golden St, and Utah. They face the other top 2 east teams in Boston (home) and Orlando (road). If the Cavs can come out of that month 12-2 or better, then I'll be really impressed. Wins over Boston, LA, and Orlando even if they go 11-3 or 10-4 and I'll still be really impressed.

We had tickets and when we were confronted with effectively the same Q&A, we decided to just taigate in my freind's backyard. Woke up early, took the cooler outside, deep fried turkeys, grilled some burgers, stood outside listening to the pre-game radio show...then went inside and watched the game. I think it was a good decision (and the wives were especially happy). Meanwhile, I think this thread should be locked based on pincipal. The Cavs are playing out of their mind right now, are perhaps the best team in history, and yet we're still talking about the Browns who have been the worst team in football the last month. The Lions would easily beat us....I mean, the Bengals just did.

I am indifferent towards Jackson. I feel the city has shown improvement since 2005, but I haven't see Frank go out and tackle some things that I feel need an outspoken, inspiring leader to correct. But unless I see someone who exudes that type of personality, I think Jackson is "capable".
  21. The first car I ever owned was a 1992 Jeep Wrangler. I still own it and it runs great...starts up every time! Last couple years it started grinding a bit when downshifting into 2nd, but as it approaches 17 years old, I am not going to complain.

This consistantly stands out to me here in Cleveland, especially when we see people like Zack Reed in the news all the time for the wrong reasons. I realize elected officials are different than city employees, but I often ask myself "how does Zack Reed get re-elected?" Well, who else who lives in his ward can (and wants to) do a better job? If a city were to get better employees and better leaders, regardless of where they lived, the city itself would become more appealing and thus would draw more residents.

Does anyone understand why this is bad? I am reading this as a stand alone tax break means its only applicable to the film industry (which I think would be good - no loopholes for inappropriate use). Transferable from company to company...I am not sure I follow this part, but if the tax break is being transfered between companies that are generating investment in the state, why does it matter? Someone help me understand why this isn't simply a political move.

Then I imagine you and your false rage will love this: http://www.sockandawe.com/ Its really not rage, its more calling out the hypocrisy of this board. Board hates Bush = shoe throwing "light hearted" and no big deal. Board loves Obama = shoe throwing intolerable (had it been him up there). Don't be blind to it. Is that right? I thought I saw countless "Republicans only spew hate towards Obama" during the campaign yet now you're going to dismiss the possibility of something like this happening to him? Uh, right... The President, regardless of whether you agree with his views or not, is still OUR President...be it Bush now or Obama in the future. The position will always be a lighting rod for controversy but as a citizen of the US, you should not be tolerant of this behavior.
