I now work around 9-5 in the office. Work from home as needed. Used to work 70-80 hour weeks, often 8am-10pm in the office, or at least 8-7 then remotely until 10 or 11. Those hours take a toll after awhile.

Searched for thread on this topic and there wasn't one (somewhat surprised considering its an annual event here ion NE Ohio). Anyway, big event this weekend at Firestone with Tiger making his return and a pretty strong field overall. Anyone going? I'm heading there this afternoon as well as Saturday to check it out.
  3. As a former resident of Cleveland, I know I got sick of the BS that routinely occurs right there where Mr. Nude was dancing in the street. That intersection is a problem, both from a traffic standpoint (people run the stop sign at the top of W25th and Washington all the time) and an "idiot" standpoint. When the swing bridge shut down (which provided relief from having to go through there) it got real old, real fast. Anyway, I moved...and while I enjoyed living there I won't be moving back until this type of thing gets cleaned up. And if I randomly come down to check it out and see the same old, same old...then I will know nothing has changed. And yes, I called, sent letters/emails, organized neighborhood assoiciations, etc. There are many residents who care. The problem, IMO, is the City of Cleveland leaders are one level better than worthless. Residents can't do it by themselves. It's not like neighbors of Anthony Sewell were keeping their mouth shut; the city did nothing about it.
  4. ^I bet they will be doing the same thing they are doing today - continue to not go to the post office. Surprised Isle St George even ever qualified to have a Post Office. I don't think more than 10 people ever lived there at a time.
  5. ^ Yes. And I thought that point would have been fairly obvious too. A bit surprised the topic was discussed for a whole page.
  6. I was down there last weekend doing some work on the condo I own there and visually, it doesn't look like much is happening. There were construction vehicles in the parking lot, but that was about it.

I think it's actually 12 miles North to South, and at its widest about 2 miles. North to South is approximately 13.5 miles long and the area from Pier 57 to 15/FDR is the widest part of Manhattan at approximately 2.25 miles. This was one of our team scavenger hunt questions. Hey I was close!!! LOL. I was referring to the Burrough, not the Island. So from Wall St up to the top of Central Park it's about 6-7 miles. That is what I also was referring to, the Island of Manhattan is the same thing as the Borough of Manhattan. My mistake. I thought Harlem was separate.

If it takes a long time to travel a relatively short distance. i.e., it takes a long time to get from 1 end of Manhattan to the other even though it's only what, 5 miles?

The most convienent place to live is downtown while attending CSU. $600/month might make it tough, but the Crittendon has units in that price range if you want to live alone. You can get by with no car and take the free trolley to school (and it's close enough to walk). After that, in that price range, I would suggest Lakewood.
  11. Yeah, I listed mine the day I was moving out figuring it might take some time. But I got calls that day, scheduled appointments for viewings 2 days later (and other days for other people) and the first person I showed it too - while it was still filthy from me moving out - took it and moved in a week later. I barely had time to clean the place...and I had to call the other interested parties and tell them I had a renter before I could show it to them.
  12. Great to hear, but not surprised! It took me all of 3 days to rent my condo...think I should have asked for more rent!
  13. Yeah, nothing like adding a couple hours to your travel time by taking the Megabus then local Bus to the airport.
  14. ^ I flew out at 8, got there at 7. It was busy.
  15. I hear what you're saying CLEJoe, but as MD88 often points out, 70% of CLE customers are 0/D passengers. Only 30% are actually changing planes here who go away with bad impressions. For those of us who are road warriors and base out of CLE, I have few complaints, especially now that the god-awful carpeting is coming out and tile is going in! Going back, I wish they would have put the money for Concourse D into an expanded and rennovated Concourse A, but even that isn't as bad as it could be. I would agree. I actually love CLE compared to O'Hare, which I find to be the second worst airport I've ever been to (first being Miami). Once the floor renovation is done, I think it will be great. Easy parking, quick security lines, lots of direct flights, and decent food choices. I only wish concourse D wasn't so far ;) And for some of the earlier comments, the airport can be pretty busy during certain times. Monday mornings it's packed.
  16. Much of it has been done. The food court is complete; the shopping section renovation is completed. All of the new restaurants throughout the concourses are in place. They are still in the process of replacing the floors in C. D has been renovated. I don't make it into A or B to really know anything about what's going on over there, but overall it's shaping up pretty nicely.
  17. ^^^Saw this earlier this morning, then saw on facebook I knew that guy. Crazy. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/police-are-investigating-a-dead-body-found-at-a-twinsburg-residence-sunday-morning.
  18. Few cities not on the list I suspect are on the higher end...

^ at least from what I know, $700/month is't going to get you into those places. So why suggest somewhere that doesn't meet the criteria?
  20. Business Traveler Appreciation Day today here at Hopkins. Discounts on parking, at shops, services (shoes shines, massage tables)...pretty nice! (I feel appreciated anyway). Looks like the construction for the stores around the terminal C security checkpoint has been completed; they're still working on replacing the floors but I have to say, overall, the airport remodel has turned out well. And more importantly, you can get to most places with a direct flight and getting through security is pretty easy...at least compared to other airports.

If you live in Cleveland but work in another city, the city of Cleveland only credits 1% of your local income tax. So if you pay 2% local tax to the city you work in, you then have to pay an additional 1% to Cleveland. Most other cities give you full credit. Not to mention the process for filing and paying is not very well managed. I have had issues each year ensuring they are collecting the correct amount - they routinely try to tag you with fees/penalties even if they have no basis for it. As far as incompetence, I have yet to deal with an efficient department frankly. I've made countless calls, sent pictures - I even put together a powerpoint deck once - about various issues like trash pick up, street signage, street lighting, snow removal, leaf removal, and other rather basic services and only once (after I sent the powerpoint) was anything actually done about it. And this would be over a 4 year period. Although I kind of gave up on some of it and started doing some things on my own (if you ever see some guy with a shovel and a trash bag clearing drains on the street, that's me). Police can be hit or miss depending on who you get a hold of. I've had cars illegally parked blocking garages and sometimes they are ticketed/towed promptly and other times I've ended up being blocked in for hours. The Cleveland Court System is notoriously slow. I don't know - or am accusing - of any corruption in any office, although Earle Turner certainly hasn't helped the court systems reputation.

Saw this on the front page of the USA Today yesterday; thought I would share: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/census/2011-05-20-chicago-blacks-exodus_n.htm It's all about lifestyle. Reality is people, regardless of race, don't want to deal with other people who can't manage themselves. It adds challenges to their already challenging lives. So you move to places where there are less challenges and things are structured to meet your needs...and you live among other people with similar needs. Some neighborhoods in Cleveland are great, but they cater to more specific lifestyles...not to mention you have to deal with the City of Cleveland leaders, tax codes, and other general incompetence.
  23. It was razed and the result is vacant lots. That's what actually happened. Anythng else at this point is... what do you always call it... fantasy land. Dreams, hopes, aspirations. We have two other threads going where everyone's up in arms about tearing down a couple buildings that few locals are even familiar with, with a concrete and immedate plan to replace them. Here we have a famous landmark district that just went poof and will continue as poof indefnitely. I guess I find the outrage levels a bit imbalanced. It's an opinion, man, and not entrely uninformed. But then again maybe I'm just crazy/stupid/uneducated/etc. Great point. Everyone is all bent out of shape about potential impacts of Casino construction, but this mud field that has been a mud field for 4 years in perhaps the most prime real estate in Cleveland is "a by-product of the economic crash" so that's accepted. When does the economic crisis stop being a viable excuse? Pretty sure banks ar lending these days...
  24. I'm not sure I was ever able to use the vbulletin forum properly, or at least to see any benefit. Also, my bookmark is www.urbanohio.com as I like to see the most recent posts. That was never updated...and I kind of had trouble the first time accessing the site, so I thought some bugs were still being worked out. Each time I checked that link and it was the same, I figured the site was still being worked on so I navigated elsewhere. I guess if you do switch, I would like to see a way to incorporate recent posts into the main page. Thanks!
