Cleveland: How diverse are we?
And this is why diversity will continue to have its limits. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/12/rta_enforcement_of_fare_evasio.html

Governor John Kasich
Pretty much it. Like the concept of VORP in baseball. Value Over Replacement Player. I can go play shortstop and there is value for playing the position. But some are paid more than others because the output varies so greatly...not everyone can be a great shortstop. I would argue there are thousands, if not millions, of people who can be a custodian. It's like any supply and demand curve. Lots of supply for people to clean up schools. So paying them high salaries isn't good business.

The head janitor Facilities Director in my high school (back when I was in high school...approaching 15 years ago) made > $100,000.

Is Cleveland Liberal?
Liberal is pretty broad, but it is predominantly Democrat. Cleveland hasn't had a Republican mayor is what? 30 years? Most all elected officials in Cuyahoga County are Democrats, the political machine that was Russo/DiMora was allowed to run un-checked for decades - despite heavy signs of corruption - because there is such stauch Democratic support in the county that unless you were backed by that political group you weren't getting elected. Dennis Kucinich wins in a landslide every time despite a checkered political history...Democrats run this town...liberal is how you define it...

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
So the Cavs are so bad now, I can't even sell tickets on ebay for $0.99. That's right, 7 day auction with tickets starting at $0.99 didn't get 1 bid. Amazing.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
More pressure needs to be put on the city that the existing timing is not adequate. As it stands, it seems that the city is satisfied with how it is working and things are "good enough." I agree and until that attitude changes among city leaders, there is a ceiling to how much Cleveland can develop. And when you look at the threads talking about businesses relocating to the suburbs, I point tot his as the key reasn why. This wouldn't be "good enough" in the suburbs that are presently growing.

Where do you live????
Last senetence, yes, agree. Solon was a small town when I grew up. The kids I went to grade school with were pretty much there through high school. I knew everyone in my class and most people a grade or two ahead of me...there's something to be said for that, IMO. I know at my reunion I spent way more time talking with people I went to elementary school with who I wasn't really friends with in high school than the people I was actually friends with in high school. Comparitively, we were in athletic conferences with Chagrin, Orange, Wickliffe, Kenston, Chardon, Twinsburg, and West Geauga. Kenston and Twinsburg have grown some, but for the most part those are still small D-III schools. Solon blew up over time. I know my graduating class was the last under 300 kids. Businesses moved there; the population doubled from the time I was born to the time I graduated High School. The small school I was in went to one of the largest in NE Ohio. The high school has expanded twice. There are now 4 elemetery schools instead of 2. The daytime population almost triples for people who are coming in for work. It's more transient as people move there specifically for the schools, and sometimes just for high school for either academics or athletics, then leave. I mean, it's only 20,000 people or so, which is the same size as Rocky River, but it has a much bigger feel than that. Rocky River doesn't have any fortune 500 companies in it. So it's no longer a small town, and I kind of like the small town feel (or least close knit community feel) but still a part of a larger city. Not sure if you would get that in Solon today. I don't think there's anything wrong with Solon today, it's just not what it was.

Poll: How much sleep do you get a night?
^ yeah, I remember having to get up hours before school started for pre-season baseball, which we did in the gym. God I hated that. Well, I hated waking up. I actually liked practice...until the running at the end :(

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^ so would user friendly fare boxes to buy tickets. Considering how easy I think that should be, GPS tracking is probably nuclear physics to RTA.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^ I currently work on Euclid and would say I see at least 2 busses right behind each other on a daily basis. I am not sure who is responsible for the timing of the lights on Euclid (I would imagine it would be the City Traffic engineer, but would hope RTA plays a big part) but I am not surprised it is poorly managed. Traffic engineering around the city is generally miserable...I wonder if it's even managed at all.

Where do you live????
The "less than's" have always been a sensitive people! Oh no you didn't! SHS96 handle this! You people in CH are so damn uppity! Isnt shs96 from Solon? On second thought, what's the difference? Solon, Shaker. Shaker, Solon. It aint THE Heights! Yes, Solon...Solon High School Class of 96 = SHS96. Growing up I thought I was from the east side. As I got older, I realized people from the east side didn't consider Solon to be a part of the east side. So East? West? No way...Chagrin River Valley is the best! lol I could have sworn you said you lived in Shaker, I assumed you went to Shaker as well! How dare you confuse me! Solon! ::) Ugh! Nope...sorry you can't keep this stuff straight! But hey, I was born there and my parents lived there until just last year. It was a great place to grow up, IMO. It's changed since and I wouldn't consider living there in the future, but I remember it fondly...and still go to Solon football games on occasion ;)

What effect has the economy had on you?
Wow...I've been on UO long enough my age bracket has changed. Update on the job front: Got the new job. I'm pumped. Huge career move for me. The travel will be difficult, but will hopefully be worth it in the long run. As a side note, if you're interested in renting a 2 BR, 2 bath condo with (IMO) the best view of the city, hardwood floors, granite counters, nice balcony, stainless appliances, washer/dryer, 2 garage parking spaces, security, concierge, and fitness center let me know! Congrats on the JOB! What will you now be doing? You might want to slap some photos of unit up here. Thanks - Consultant in the Financial Services Industry. Are we allowed to advertise rental units here? I didn't think we were. But there are pictures of my unit on page 10 of this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2178.msg383282.html#msg383282

Poll: How much sleep do you get a night?
Pre-baby...bed around 11/11:30 and up at 7. Post baby...well, who knows. Yesterday: Slept from 5:30pm-6:30pm, 10pm-1:15am, and 3am-6am. If I could fall back asleep immediately after waking up and feeding him, all would be fine I think. But tough to do sometimes.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
It won't be complicated. It will be "we didn't want to waste any money on the train no one would use".

Or more better yet, you're not actually superior if you have to argue for it. i.e., I know I'm superior, but I'm not going to engage in a debate about it because I don't really give a f^ck what you think - you're not relevant. Joking (sort of ) aside, the East Side/West Side issue is still noticable...at least to my wife who is not from Cleveland...she picked up on it. But it is diminishing as fewer people live in actual territory that is considered East/West and move to the suburbs (i.e., Mayfield Heights v Westlake doesn't count).

Admit Your Cultural Blasphemy!
Huh? Did you miss the endless replay of the Dr. Dre 'Let it Ride' or Snoop's 'What's my Name'? Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Run DMC, there were plenty of hip-hop...more mainstream hip hop, but still. And as far as whether anyone who may not have liked Elvis or The Beatles or Kurt Cobain...that's not really relevant. Their influence on the music industry cannot be denied.

Why did Cleveland not annex more land for growth?
Well, other than the quality of the roads, maintenance of the property, etc. Always amazes me when driving through Cleveland into Lakewood or Shaker that the roads suddenly have less potholes, have been snow plowed, and businesses are held to zoning standards.
