Technically it shouldn't matter if there are large watch parties. Today Nielsen uses PPM or portable people meters that individuals wear at all times and automatically detect the signal of a particular TV program. They then use this sample group to extrapolate out the larger overall ratings and share figures. Individuals are chosen in a manner that provides as close to a representative sample of the population being metered, both Nationally and locally, to provide an accurate overview of who is watching.

I think downtown is a safer bet to make money quicker higher margin items like the preprepared food and alcohol should have a large built in demand base with lunch workers and young apartment dwellers

Yep. They are embracing the Buzzfeed mentality. Things like the article about Tamir's dad get the attention, but there are tons of other examples. For example, little things like taking Terry Pluto's regular Sunday column and splitting it into 3 separate articles, make their motives so transparent. Sacrifice journalistic integrity and the reader experience for a minimal gain in the short term. Problem is they don't seem to realize the long-term implications behind these moves.
