  1. i would think there would be a better building that could be mounted, maybe on top of Erieview, where it wouldn't be as obvious...nor acting as a zit on a civic treasure
  2. what is the circular object on the right hand side of your picture? some sort of weather radar thingamabob? wish they could move that, it really is an eyesore
  3. I heard it was going to be a Panera! j/k
  4. ^Pedro Cerrano ^^I agree. Denver's D is mong the league's worst, they struggle against both the run (26 of 32) and pass (27 of 32).
  5. if their schedule were a bit more friendly, I'd say stick with Anderson, but honestly I don't see the Browns making a run at the playoffs anymore...they will struggle to finish .500 at this point...looking at their remaining schedule, they might be favored in 2 of these games home vs Denver 4-4 at Buffalo 5-3 home vs Houston 3-5 home vs Indy 4-4 at Tenn 8-0 at Philly 5-3 home vs Cincy 1-8 at Pit 5-2

team looked great...all 12 players saw action. JJ Hix had some nice defense down low...LBJ only logged about 30 min, it would be nice if they can keep his minutes down this year, allowing him to be more fresh come playoffs...
  7. oops i think jones day is an accounting firm...:)..obviously i don't know mucch about womens fashion
  8. A Jones Day NY recently opened up in Tower City...not necessarily earth-shattering news, but in light of all the bad news in the retail world these days, it is nice to see someone moving into the downtown market.
  9. Greenhouse Tavern has new signage in their windows too...looks like construction/remodeling inside is picking up
  10. the only way Manny comes back is if Shappy and Wedgie are no longer here. A player like Ramirez flys in the face of their entire management philosophy of having good clubhouse guys and "grinders".
  11. Ralph Nader is in town today...someone should mention it to the best champion of consumer-advocacy our country has ever seen.

cavs have been free throw shooters for a long time...no news there...but the turnovers were atypical...Cavs generally are very good at keeping them at a minimum.... ...what worries me is our depth in the front court. If we sustain an injury to Z or Varejao, we're in trouble. Ben Wallace best days are behind him, JJ Hickson is largely unproven, and the much-traveled L. Wright is not much more than a big-body that can take up space.
  13. Is there any concern that the financing for this will still fall through? Up in Cleveland, our half billion dollar Flats East Bank project has come to a screeching halt.
  14. Most concerning is that the PD no longer succeeds at doing what is the foremost responsibility of any paper with the size and scope it has, objectively and intelligently inform the masses on topics that have a direct impact locally. No one is mentioning how the PD quickly endorsed the bailout bill in all of its many forms and absolutely ripped Kucinich and LaTourette for voting against it. Now that legitimate concerns over the PNC-Nat City take under have arisen, the PD is quick to reverse their editorial stance. How about instead of all the effort going towards muckraking they spend some time trying to be objective and do some actual groundwork on these issues to better inform the readership? Fortunately, I do not count myself among those that look to the PD for this sort of insight, but plenty in this town still do.
  15. Welcome HJG. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I hope you become a regular poster. One quick note I'd like to make. I think that the PD, with an ever-increasing eye towards their online entity, place much greater emphasis now on "shock journalism" and sensationalistic headlines. While these tactics may generate more clicks and impressions and page views, which in turn equals greater revenue, what the PD does not seem to consider, or worse, even care about, is the untold damage this does to the city's already-fragile psyche.

  17. it will be interesting to see what other retailers will go bankrupt, esp. after what is anticipated to be a lackluster holiday season. circuit city could be next to go under...
  18. I'll ask again, who is repsonsible for deciding which banks are given government aid and which do not? And what factors are used in making the determination?
  19. How, or maybe more appropriately, who, decides which banks are saved and offered assistance, and which ones do not? Something tells me that if Paulson had close ties to the National City brass, they'd have been offered assistance...much like his friends did at goldman sachs
  20. how about shaun rogers play yesterday? i can't believe the lions let this dude go for basically leigh bodden...browns were smart to give him a new contract and lock him up!
  21. ^Dennis was quoted in yesterdays PD on the matter. "Without regard to the economic and psychological impact on our community, Treasury made a coldly calculated decision to push National City off the cliff and use our tax dollars to help another bank scrape up the remains," said Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Cleveland Democrat who voted against the bailout.
  22. Freethink is absolutely right. Why aren't we more up in arms about this? Clearly banks have no intention of using the $700 billion to free up money for new loans and help the economy recover. From an article in todays NY Times: Friday delivered the first piece of evidence that this is, indeed, the plan. PNC announced that it was purchasing National City, an acquisition that will be greatly aided by the new tax break, which will allow it to immediately deduct any losses on National City’s books. "As part of the deal, it is also tapping the bailout fund for $7.7 billion, giving the government preferred stock in return. At least some of that $7.7 billion would have gone to NatCity if the government had deemed it worth saving. In other words, the government is giving PNC money that might otherwise have gone to NatCity as a reward for taking over NatCity. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to feel as if we’ve been sold a bill of goods." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/25/business/25nocera.html?partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
