  1. Peter Ranskind's statement to his employees: http://blog.cleveland.com/pdextra/2008/10/national_city_ceo_peter_raskin.html As you know, National City has always strived to serve the best interests of our shareholders, employees, customers and communities. Through your heroic efforts, we have done precisely that, taking difficult actions that have maintained stability amidst the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous periods in the history of the financial markets. 2. ^way to keep things in perspective
  3. congratulations...it was a long time in the making, and the results are truly amazing!
  4. I would think everyone at the brances would be safe. PNC has no Cleveland footprint. But the HQ downtown could lose a lot.
  5. The PD makes it sounds as though many local jobs will be lost. :( Climaxing a collapse that began 14 months ago, it was announced today that National City Corp. is being sold. The Cleveland bank, the largest in Ohio, is being purchased by PNC Financial Services of Pittsburgh for $2.23 per share. The news is among the worst the local giant, with 8,000 employees in Northeast Ohio, could receive. PNC, just 130 miles and less than 2-1/2 hours from National City's headquarters, will almost certainly slash thousands of local employees. 6. thought i'd share a nice story...riding the blue line last night, the train operator, Paul #00122, helped a lady with 2 young kids and a stroller get both on and off the rapid. not sure if this is part of the job description, but it was a very nice thing to do
  7. well i don't mind! i say legalize it, but that is a topic for another thread
  8. the corner of chester and east 13th by the allerton building always has the smell of weed and many dudes just hanging there looking to sell...i'm not sure why the CPD doesn't do some sort of sting operation there
  9. ^cool website...wish they had more entries!
  10. there is growing movement for a "red out" at the game Saturday. which would be very cool, but it does not have the same ring to it as a "black out" or a "white out" but i'll take whatever advantage I can...
  11. i thought the plans called for relocating thistledown?
  12. At least this is generating some dialogue about redeveloping the lakefront.
  13. Do you have the list of banks that were included? I'd be curious to know the rationale behind how they chose which to bail out.

  15. did anyone else notice how wide open winslow was on the last play of the game for the Browns? DA tried to force a throw into Braylon across the middle, when Winslow was running a side-out route that had left him with a ton of open space. DA's performance yesterday was garbage absolutely horrendous, which is a shame given how well our D played and others like Jamal Lewis and our OLine...
  16. someone should take the pics of the terminal tower's restoration in various stages of completion set to some 70's porn music..right now though she is just teasing us with some PG13 material
  17. cool! Did they finish work on the asbestos removal finally? I noticed they took down the "fugly blue fence" last week.
  18. Walking to the rapid this morning, I noticed sparks flying out of the top floor windows in the Higbee building. Any idea what's going on in there?
  19. The band Brand New has a song entitled Guernica, one of my favorites, and until today I was unaware of the significance behind the song's title.
  20. ^or as MTS would say, "thank the lawwd"

I'm just curious, but if the tragedy in Minneapolis hadn't brought attention to this issue, are there routine maintenance checks on these bridges that would have told us about the level of deterioration? Could Clevelanders conceivably been still driving on the Innerbelt today unaware of the impending danger?
  22. The level of parity in the NFL this year is unbelievable. Consider the NFC East division's weekend, Giants lost to the Browns, Cowboys to the Cards, and Redskins to the Rams, and this division was supposed to represent the best the NFL had to offer.
