The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
It didn't help OSU's cause any that Penn St. walked all over Wisconsin. The weight of that victory does not carry as much influence since they have yet to win a Big Ten game. Also, notice how many 1 loss teams are still ahead of OSU in the polls. OSU will need to not only run the table, but hope that a number of teams all lose 2x....I tihnk it is safe ot say that OSU is no longer overrated, at least not as much as previously, esp. when you have a 1loss Missouri team still ahead of them.

OSU actually lost votes since last week, despite winning, which illustrates how unconvincing their game was against Purdue.

Not exactly a bastion for pulitzer material now, PeeDee announces a new round of cuts, including some editorial posts http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/10/plain_dealer_to_cut_38_unioniz.html Plain Dealer to cut 38 unionized newsroom jobs Posted by Sarah Hollander October 07, 2008 19:04PM Categories: Breaking News, Impact, Real Time News The Plain Dealer plans to cut 38 unionized newsroom positions by year's end, further whittling the size of its staff. President and Publisher Terry Egger announced the decision to union members Tuesday, blaming worse than expected advertising revenue and hard times ahead for the newspaper industry.

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
But does anyone think the issue of "raising children" played a role in Eaton's relocation? I don't. If it did, then it was way down the list. Everything I read suggests it was about tax breaks and the want/need to expand "out" versus "up", the latter of which is what I was alluding to above.

I totally agree with sir2gees, the old guard is stll stuck in the mindset of office parks, surface lots and long commutes. It will be at least a generation before we start to see more effort paid to innercity and urban work/living lifestyles. Until we are the decision makers, which should coincide nicely with an ever-increasing effort to reduce carbon footprints and fossil fuel usage, you could see another Eaton happening again. Regarding the current leadership at these huge companies, dealing with cost of living issues has never needed to be a top priority, so even with $4/gallon gas, among other things, this has zero impact on them. They are simply out of touch. You and I, on the other hand, having grown up in an environment that has placed a greater emphasis on "going green" will eventually pay dividends, just not the financial kind these CEOs are most familiar.

OSU would be a COMPLETELY different team if they were to play USC again.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
CDawgNjaim may not like what I have to say, but here goes.... What you witnessed yesterday was the future, and as Pryor becomes more comfortable, look out. He is an athletic freak on par with nothing we've even seen before. The added dimensions he brings to the Ohio St. offense cannot be overstated. Looking at their remaining games, I believe OSU will run the table, including a tough game against Penn St., and EARN a return trip to the National Championship, but against who? The answer: USC. The new AP oll is out and OSU is ranked #12. Take a look at the 11 teams ranked above them and who they have still to play. (not including conference championships) Each team has a game remaining against a top 5 team, with only three exceptions: BYU, USC and Ohio St. And does anyone really think BYU belongs where they do? They BARELY beat a Washington team (28-27) that is 0-5. Oklahoma: home v. #5 Texas, home v. #16 Kansas, home v. #7 Texas Tech, and away v. #17 Oklahoma St. Alabama: away v. #4 LSU, and home v. #20 Auburn Missouri: home v. #17 Oklahoma St., away v. #5 Texas, and home v. #16 Kansas LSU: away v. #11 Florida, home v. #10 Georgia, and home v. #2 Alabama Texas: away v. #1 Oklahoma, home v. #3 Missouri, home v. #17 Oklahoma St., away v. #7 Texas Tech, and away v. #16 Kansas Penn St.: away v. #12 Ohio St., and home v. #23 Michigan St. Texas Tech: away v. #16 Kansas, home v. #5 Texas, home v. #17 Oklahoma St. and away v. #1 Oklahoma USC: NO RANKED OPPONENTS REMAINING BYU: away v. #14 Utah Georgia: home v. #13 Vanderbilt, away v. #4 LSU, home v. #11 Florida, and away v. #20 Auburn Florida: home v. #4 LSU, away v. #10 Georgia, and away v. #13 Vanderbilt The takeaway point to be made from all this is that just about everyone above Ohio St. has absolutely brutal schedules for the second half of the season, this will invariably lead to teams beating up on one another and in so doing, jeopardize their rankings. Fair or not, Ohio St. and USC are both positioned well moving forward...the opportunity is theirs for the taking.

I still don't understand why people would "make a run" on NCB. Your money is insured up to $100,000 by FDIC, what sense does it make to take it out and keep it under your mattress where it won't make any money.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Does anyone know what is going on with the abandoned warehouse that sits right off the exit ramp on the corner of east 14th street and carnegie? I saw a crane there the other day and it was clear some work was being done. The windows were already taken out among other things. This would be a great site for lofts or some other kind of residential living, IMO

Cleveland: Rockometer Proposal
from coolcleveland email blast this morning Rockometer update Christopher Axelrod, who is organizing the effort to build a 2000-seat special events center on the abandoned US Coast Guard property across E. 9th Street from the Rock Hall, reports that their "9/25 press conference has been canceled by the city and we were ordered not to hold it on their properties. The city chooses not to endorse it at this time..." How sadly predictable. However, he has received strong support from other visionaries in the region. Your thoughts?

isn't this sort of tactic precisely what Frank Jackson's regionalism platform is so ardently opposed to doing?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
0-3 ....expect the start Quinn chants to become even louder...if Romeo wants to save his job, he'll have to do something. Personally, I'd give DA one more start against Cincy, and if results aren't dramatically improved...grab a clipboard. And his lackluster play really dates back to the last 7-8 games of 07 too....so this shouldn't be viewed as some knee-jerk Monday morning QB decision...

Actually, conventional tree lawns with grass would not count as a credit for a property owner. And, there is a lot more nuance to this than I could possibly express in this off-topic tangent. I'd be happy to describe this elsewhere. nice find willyboy...cutler's definition of commitment varies greatly from that of my own

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
I believe in the 80's Cleveland trie to do just what you are talking about...they demo'd a bunch of buildings in the warehouse district in an attempt to provide, cheap, or maybe free parking to encourage more people to come downtown. It didn't work, and those lots soon became privately controlled...:(
