Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
Yes. The impressions (eyeballs) and web traffic for sports content is much higher than anything else. And when a big part of their revenue is tied to monetizing those web impressions via banner ads, it's no surprise that they play up the sports stuff. Plus, now that they are "digital first" company, they are forced to repurpose the stuff for the web into the print side.

is that decision up to the mall manager or the actual owners? to me that decision would likely come from someone higher up. Regardless, they need to make a decision and own it already.

Their presence here stems from BOAs takeover of MBNA. It wasn't a conscience decision to have people here.

It is all in how you want to position things...yes we led the nation in volume of jobs lost, but we're also one of the largest population areas tracked, Top 20. Proportionally-speaking, which is probably the right way to view things, it is a small % drop that doesn't place us anywhere near the worst.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
This is very true. Attendance is a MLB problem, not just Cleveland. Then you have a commissioner coming through substance abuse scandals and bragging about attendance figures being up, fully exposing himself as a 20th century "old guard" thinker. Sports are now built on television and ratings. Hockey has amazing attendance, but still barely makes a dent on the American radar as a fourth sport. The NFL kicks all them to the curb, and it's largely been built on TV deals--not butts in seats. I follow the local ratings very closely as it is part of my job, and the numbers are up slightly over what I had projected based on a rolling average over the last few years. Through May the A35+ Live+7 numbers were 4.0 rating average per game, which was up over my projected 3.5. In June, the number has increased to 4.4 rating. So at least by one indicator, interest in the team is growing.

Cleveland sports talk radio
Some of it isn't so bad. Does anyone know the name of that slow, dim-witted cartoon character Kiley & Booms pattern after Browns management? It makes me laugh every time they play the sound clip...

this link suggests a weekend attendance of 40,000, so does that translate to 20,000 hotel rooms?? http://www.hotelplanner.com/Event-Hotels/5975-For-NBA-All-Star-Game-2013-February-15-2013-in-Houston-TX

Is there actual merit to your claims KJP? I can't tell if you are speculating or stating fact. It would be a great story, and perhaps something that could be done with a claim to public records/emails surrounding the City of Cleveland landmark commission?
