  1. Why is it a bad thing that the committee wants a detailed plan? If they picked a developer without being sure it was the right choice and that developer made a mess of things, a lot of you would be talking crap about the committee and how they didn't take a close enough look at the proposals. This is too big of a project to be making choices on half knowledge. Anyway, they have been working on the site for a while now if noone has noticed. They have leveled about half the area between te Freedom Center and GABP. I also heard they did a little early maintenance on the sewer lines ( but don't hold me to that). Most of this work is probably in preparation for 'Cirque du Soleil' in August, but the ground will be ready for construction after 'Cirque du Soleil' departs. By that time the Banks Committee hopefully would have chosen the right developer for the job and construction will begin shortly. I was just curious. What do you consider affordable for this project. I certainly hope you don't mean subsidized.

Today's game was a disaster. Inkaelin, for the good of the Reds playoff hopes, please watch the games on T.V.

Oh and another Reds bullpen note. If you guys haven't heard. They designated Chris Hammond for assignment, so he is gone now. They recalled Shackelford from the Minors to take his place.

Ummm,O.K. Have you even been paying attention to what the ownership has done this year? Castellini obviously has picked the right man for the GM job in Krivsky. I have never seen a GM for the Reds work this much magic in such a short time. Castellini has always said that he would spend the money to improve the team if they were still in contention after the All-Star break, which it appears they will be. I don't blame the ownership or Krivsky for not pulling off a deal for bullpen help if there's nothing out there. Bullpen help is hard to come by all of a sudden and noone is going to be willing to trade away a reliable reliever without getting someone better in return. I think the Reds only hope here is bringing up some young guys from the Minors and cross your fingers that something clicks. To call the Reds ownership dumb is pretty much a dumb comment in itself at this point. I was about to leave the game last night after the first out of the 9th inning, I got so excited that I almost fell down two rows. I have tickets to the next two games and I would appreciate if the Reds didn't spot the Indians 8 runs again.

    CRAP!

Holy stinky shit, has anyone noticed the ticket prices? I mean this is the ECHL and not the NHL. This is exactly why they should play at the Gardens. Don't get me wrong, I'll go to a few games but there won't be any big family outings. Take a look for yourselves. Maybe I'm over exaggerating. http://www.cycloneshockey.com/tickets_season.shtml#
  7. Has anyone read this book yet? I heard it is pretty good. It probably talks a lot about the ( so called ) leaders of the black community who instigated the riots and how they have have pretty much single handedly made the violent crime rate in this city double since then. I also heard it has a lot of story's that you would never read in the paper's because of course the paper's didn't want the rioter's to look too bad. Here is a link to a review I found of the book. http://www.bluechipreview.com/Steve_Fritsch_Peter_Bronson_Book_Review.html It's also interesting to note that the same leaders who instigated the riots are most likely the same people who are bitching about " The Banks Committee " being all white. So it's a real good thing that their complaints are being ignored.
  8. May be wishful thinking but I'm starting to see a timeline forming: Sometime between June and August 2006 - Turning and leveling of ground east of the freedom center in preparation for garage construction. Aug. 24 - Sept. 17 2006 : Cirque du soleil performs at "The Banks" ( Drawing more people in 3 weeks than the Freedom Center has in 2 years) I'm sorry I had to. :-D End of September 2006 - Cirque du soleil moves out, constuction trucks move in. October 2006 - Major constuction begins on the Central Riverfront Garage east of the Freedom Center May 2007 - Construction begins on the section of the Central Riverfont Park entitled "River Terrace Garden" directly south of GABP. October 2007 - Major construction comes to a close on the Parking Garage making way for construction on the section of the park south of the garage and realignment of Mehring Way to begin. 2009 -
  9. Has anyone noticed the color of the Suspension Bridge in the renderings? I like it. Maybe it should be recommended to the folks across the river so we don't see " Kentucky Blue ".
  10. Interesting read. Check out the Inventor section. Their is an Inventor named Stan Meyer from Grove City, Ohio. It says he was poisoned to death. What do you guys think? Real or Myth? Myself, we all know there are brilliant minds who can come up with a better way to run a car. I wouldn't put it past the oil companies to eliminate some of these guys. http://www.waterpoweredcar.com/
  11.          Having a City Manager say that is some funny shit.
  12. I'd like to see Fountain Square West be another spinoff.
  13. I hear Angels singing.
  14. I don't know, I think now there biting off more than they can chew. Plus, help me out here. If the CITY own's the air-rights, how can the COUNTY decide to increase the project? Are they talking about more height or taking away from the park? And could the fact that their talking about the CITY's TIF mean that their close to a compromise?
  15. Cincykidbc1 replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
Why? It's not like a player had a chance to catch it. It would have hit the pole regardless of whether the guy caught it or not. Anyway, GO REDS!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. WOW!!! I don't think I've ever had that much smoke blown up my ass all at once! :-o
  17. This may be a stretch, but does this sort of violate ANTITRUST LAW which is supposed to prohibit MONOPOLIES from forming? IMO the Argosy Casino would be a MONOPOLY, putting a stranglehold on profits in the Cincinnati region? On another note, a small boycott of the Argosy may already be under way. Most of the people I work with go to the Argosy once an a while, and they were all pissed off to hear this news. They have all decided to boycott the Argosy and are going to try to convince their friends and family to join in, and so on and so forth..... I assume my company is not the only one with people pissed about this. I don't know if this would even make a dent in their profits, but if enough people join in, maybe a small message could be sent to Penn National Gaming and to our sorry ass politicians who are kissing ass and probably got paid off.
  18. Does anyone get the feeling the state has just, in a way, chosen sides. Sort of saying "you think you can go it alone? Well, proove it!" The state seems to realize that the CITY and COUNTY need to work together on this. I've read several articles, quoting experts in business and development, stating that the COUNTY was making a mistake trying to go it alone. They've also said that PHIL HEIMLICH obviously does not have enough experience in this kind of development to make the kind of decision he made when he decided that the COUNTY should go it alone. How can you go it alone when you are only ONE of the entities that owns rights to the project? This is most likely going to put pressure on the COUNTY to change their stance and hopefully see the light. Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe it's also time for Dr. Henry Heimlich to give one of his maneuver's to PHIL to dislodge the ego that has been stuck in his throat.
  19. Good news for Hockey fans. But I can't help but think it's better for everyone if the whole RAILRAIDERS idea is nixed and the Cyclones move back to THE GARDENS. But seeing that U.S. BANK ARENA/NEDERLANDER own the Cyclones this would probably never happen. So how about just forget the whole RAILRAIDERS thing, and maybe attendance for the Cyclones games will get back to the way they used to be. Wishful thinking I know. Professional Hockey Officially Returns To Cincinnati Date: April 20, 2006 Cincinnati, OH –U.S. Bank Arena proudly announces that after suspending operations the past two seasons, the Cincinnati Cyclones will participate in the 2006-2007 ECHL season. The team will rejoin the ECHL’s American North Division. The upcoming season will be the Cyclones fourteenth overall season. The team originated in 1990 as part of the ECHL before moving to the IHL in 1992. The Cyclones returned to the ECHL in 2001. Season tickets are on sale now. We feel strongly that Cincinnati will support this team. We are dedicated to bringing the people of Cincinnati a great product come October.” “We are thrilled to have Cincinnati back in the ECHL,” commented ECHL commissioner Brian McKenna. “We see Cincinnati as a vital part of the league’s success and we share the organizations feelings that the community will support this team. The Cyclones history combined with a first class facility such as U.S. Bank Arena should make for a great season of hockey and a great future for Cincinnati hockey and the ECHL.” http://www.cycloneshockey.com/news_data.php?article=00001
  20. How many signature's on a petition do you think it would take to have a vote on removing Phil Heimlich from his position?
  21. O.K. O.K. Let me make sure I understand this whole thing once and for all. If I am way off, please let me know. From my understanding the county is responsible for the garages and roads ( although I'm sure some of the money for the roads will come ODOT also.) Right? The city has the air rights which means they are somewhat responsible for what is build on top of the garages. Meaning that it seems that it is only right that they should have a chance to participate in the selection process. Right? The COUNTY wants to use the CITY'S money to help build the garages and roads. Money I would think the county should come up with since they are the one's responsible for that part of the project. The CITY doesn't like the idea that the COUNTY wants to use the CITY's money like that, because they hold the air-rights and they say their money should be used for the stuff above the garages. If this observation is correct I can't argue with the CITY's stance that much. It sound's like the COUNTY went about this without really thinking things through. To me, it seems like this situation can be easily resolved if all the ego's were put away for a day. Maybe the OLD City council didn't want to get things done, but the NEW City council does. The COUNTY broke off ties to the OLD City council right? Give the new guys a chance. To the COUNTY: The CITY own's the air-rights, therefore allow them to have a say in the selection. And stop trying to spend the CITY's money on the part of the project that you are financially responsible for. There you go, all fixed now. Wish it was that easy.
  22. I may have just read half way into this but..... Didn't council just pass an ordinance or something to increase jail-time for Marijuana possession? Then today Chief Stricker(spelling?) 50% of the homocide's last year were committed by people who should have still been in jail. HMMMMM.. what's more important. Jailing someone for smoking a joint or keeping a potential murderer in jail? If this is going to be the trend we're in trouble. I truelly hope that the time does not come when they release a rapist to make room for a pot-head. I have not known any pot-head's that hurt anyone. But a rapist...well, I don't need to explain.
  23. I hope your joking.
  24. As far as sports go, I had just started accepting the fact that NKY is part of the tri-state and so therefor there are a lot of Kentucky Wildcat fans. But lately I've noticed a lot of Louisville Cardinal coverage in the paper and on the radio also. It's getting a little ridiculous. The other day 1360 HOMER had the Louisville basketball game PLUS the Rick Pitino show on. I thought I was in the wrong city. I can see the Kentucky coverage, but come on, Louisville? Give me a break. Stop helping these schools recruit kids from our city for Christ sakes.
  25. I'm sure you thought of this already, but... this is only Phase 1. If they ever get around to building Phase 2, the lobby will most likely be bigger on a grand scale. Too bad it will be a while before we can see that one. Hopefully we hear good news soon.
