Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
The underpass on E185th just north of St. Clair used to take the cake before it was recently repaired. I once literally bent a rim trying to navigate that mine field.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
3+ acres of pavers seems to be plenty to cover any traffic PS generates in the winter. I wouldn't mind a few strategically placed conifers. Deciduous trees with high canopies, with a few ornamental trees here and there, seems to be what they are planning. But that doesn't mean that the square will look 'dead' in the winter. With tasteful decorations, the square will sparkle quite nicely in the winter. Let's see that rendering!

Can't we just stay on a perpetual west coast road trip? After an impressive win in Phx, we go into GS and pull out a gutsy one after falling behind by nearly 20 in the first quarter. I think that Austin Carr is right..... the Cavs play best when they get out and run. The slower, half-court pace in the East seems to frustrate them.

Is anybody else having difficulty getting good reception on WKNR these past two days? I'm not sure if it is my car's antenna or the station has just had a crappy signal. A ton of static is coming through. I seem to be getting all the other stations just fine..... but WKNR probably has the weakest signal to begin with between it, AM1100, and anything on the FM dial.

Ohio Restaurant Reviews
I was at The Elevator Brewery in Dowtown C-Bus on Monday night. Thumbs up on both the food and the brew. Excellent ambience too. Really impressive and ornate interior. Was that building an old theatre? What is its history? Where did that bar come from (I assume it was transplanted there somehow if the buidling was a rennovation from some other use)?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Kind of looks like a butterfly. I love the use of pavers and the idea of making half the square mostly greenspace and the other half mostly hardscape. It probably wouldn't hurt to cut a few pathways through the greenspace half.... otherwise it will be mostly unusable in the wintertime.

Has the Shanahan zone blocking scheme ever failed to produce a quality running game? The concern with Schwartz is that he might not be mobile enough to play at a high level in this system at OT. Maybe OG. JT and Mack are ideally suited for it. That's why I think they value Mack highly enough to be willing to pay him $10mill+ for one year. It's also why I wouldn't be floored if they took Greg Robinson (OT-Auburn) and his 4.92 40yd dash at #4

Is the wind right on the shoreline really any worse than it is once it starts whipping through the downtown buildings? I like you suggestion alanr. It reminds me of the revised airplane emergency landing pamphlets from Fight Club.

Idk about that. Gerhart has never really consistently been given the ball to prove any consistency. And to me, his stats are kind of all over the place, with some game averaging over 10yds per rush and other games closer to 2yds per rush. Don't get me wrong.... I like Gerhart as a player. I just don't see how you can have such confidence in him and not in someone who did get that full time starter opportunity and made the most of it. I certainly can't agree with your conclusions as to their consistency. BTW, I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign both Hawkins and Edelman. I can't see them wanting Edelman that bad one hour while the ink was still drying on the offer sheet signed by Hawkins and then abandoning those plans once they think the Bengals won't match.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The latest rumblings are now indicating that the Bengals might not match the Hawkins offer with the way the deal is structured. Browns must've thrown in some kind of poison pill the Bengals couldn't swallow

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Why would you want Gerhart, who never really has had the opportunity to show what he can do as a full-time back, but yet be so skeptical about Edelman? Gerhart played behind Peterson and showed some flashes...... Edelman, for those first four years, was essentially playing behind Wes Welker and did the same. But the difference is that Edelman is now a proven commodity. When given the chance to be "the man", Edelman filled that role more than capably..... even if you were to say that half of those catches were more Brady than him. I wouldn't break the bank for him, but I wouldn't hesitate to offer him FMV. Both he and Sanders are a bit undersized as modern WR's go, but Sanders is more of an undersized outside #2 receiver. Edelman is a pure slot, where being undersized is much more common if not the norm. If you want to read anything into them targeting Edelman and not Sanders, I would say that it might show their hand in the draft. Teams don't draft slot receivers..... especially not in the first few rounds. We might be looking to fill the slot in FA because we are going for the gusto with Watkins at #4, Cooks at #26, or something along those lines.

From the leaked photo, it appears that Nolan Carroll was a target at CB..... but he just signed with the Eagles. I like Edelman. I like the local connection and I love his toughness. He is more than just a system guy. Brady certainly didn't do anything to make him a solid return guy. Of course, he might not be as productive without Brady..... but who would be? But I don't care who your QB is..... 105 catches in an NFL season is noteworthy. I also wouldn't mind doing as Whitner suggested and bringing Teddy Ginn Jr. back home. He probably had his best NFL season last year for Carolina. Speed never hurts. Imagine watching him, Flash Gordon, and TBenji flying around the field together.

It wasn't a big deal at all until Hooley and Cherry brought their false outrage (or, perhaps worse yet, idiotically misplaced outraged) onto the air. Rizzo and Hammer sort of just mentioned it as a possible negative when talking about Carr. Hooley then took it up and made a few hours out of Rizzo's/Hammer's response. And, to be honest, I wouldn't have had much of an issue with Hooley taking issue with their response, but for the patently (at least to everyone with an IQ above 75) false equivalency he then used to make his point. The whole meaning of the "spreading the gospel" thing is something that is not understood well by non-christians...... as it would not be understood well by christians if jews felt it was their primary mission in life to "spread the torah" and took every opportunity, whether through laws, peer pressure, public education, etc. to do that. It is a fundamental difference between jews (and many other religions) and christians. Jews, for instance, are much more 'do as you please' with non-jews and don't try to cram/jam/wham/bam/slam/hotdamn their religion down anyone else's throat.... maybe moreso for selfish/ethnocentric reasons than anything else. They specifically are God's chosen.... the righteous people.... and don't have any particular interest in expanding that coverage. However, I would assume that Carr's intentions were not what Rizzo/Hammer presumed. If asked more specifically, I would bet that he intended to say that by playing well (i.e. winning championships, MVPs, etc) he would 'spread the gospel' by showing the type of dedication, perserverance, etc., etc. being a good christian has taught him. I don't think he has any intention of trying to convert his teammates/fans through more direct messaging. The problem is that "spread the gospel" has a very negative connotation among non-christians..... sort of like the arabic phrase for "God is great(est)"...... both have negative historical black eyes to deal with.

The moves so far has led to a slight upgrade of the defense as a whole, but they don't really address points of weakness from last year. We are essentially replacing our pro bowl safety with another pro bowl safety...... and our solid, veteran ILB with another solid, veteran ILB. That said, I think KSD will actually end up replacing Robertson at the weakside ILB spot, not DQ at the strongside spot. Moats (if he signs) will be DQ's replacement. Regardless, I'd say both of the replacements are better against the pass than their predecessors. Dansby is also a little better against the run, but Ward was probably better than Whitner against the run (although not by much). Both players are older, which could be a good thing. If you are talking about last year, Hawkins was hurt for most of it. Little probably had more catches the year before, but he was essentially our #1 WR at that time and Hawkins was the Bengals' #3 or #4. Plus, most importantly, Little probably has had more drops in a single week than Hawkins has had for his entire career. What I don't like about Hawkins is his size, being only 5'7

OHSAA hockey state final declared tie after 7 overtimes
^it's a fairly big deal to a lot of people. Dan Ross (president of OHSAA") was even interviewed on The Dan Patrick show today. The people making the most noise are Iggy Nation and a certain segment which is painting this as another example of the "every kid gets a trophy" wussification of America

OHSAA hockey state final declared tie after 7 overtimes
Iggy Nation seems a bit hot under the collar about this one. It seems to me that the easy way to prevent this in the future is to go to shootout after a certain number of OTs

As if I needed any more reason to dislike Bruce Hooley, he made a real a## out of himself one day last week. In the morning, Rizzo and Goldhammer had discussed the answer given by potential Browns draftee QB Derek Carr to the question of why he wants to play professional football. His answer was "to spread the gospel." Rizzo and 'Hammer thought that was a really odd response, inferred that Carr might be a religious freak, and said they didn't want necessarily want a guy on their team who had that as his mission in playing the game of football. Well Hooley was just up in arms about that reaction and stated that if they had said they didn't want Michael Sam on their team that the media would be going bonkers over it. First of all, Bruce, there have been plenty of people who have said they didn't want Michael Sam due to the distraction it would cause. But, regardless, that is an embarrisingly ignorant false equivolency. Michael Sam never said that his mission in playing football is to "spread gayness" to the world. He is simply a gay man who wants to play football, just like countless christian men who play football without controversy. Sam simply announced that he is gay..... no different than if Carr had simply said that he was a Christian. If Rizzo and 'Hammer had said they didn't want him on the team because he was a Christian, then Hooley might have a point. I was about to make my first ever call to an AM station to tell him what an idiot he sounds like when 'Hammer called in and took Hooley to task over the BS he was spewing. Stay in your lane, Bruce

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^That's a can of worms for this thread. I'll just say this. Lebron (and Wade and Bosh) all have player options for next year. I would be surprised if they did not all exercise those options. If you believe the rumors, the 'deal' with Savannah was 5 years in Miami and then back home to raise the kids. This is his fourth year. Now back to the Cavs.... I was very happy for Z last night. Great turnout and support by the City. I even saw Joe Thomas there. It was touching how his Z's father kissed the floor in a show of appreciation for the City and organization which adopted his son at such a young age while he was thousands of miles away. Z deserved that kind of celebration. I thought the 'escorts' were a little cheesy, though. Wayne Embry's speech was also not well prepared or thought out IMO. As for the current state of the team, I'd say these past two were about as close to 'must-wins' as we are going to see the rest of the season. We just couldn't put together a solid 48 minutes in either. I don't understand why Dion only played 13 mins last night and why Andy did not play in the second half at all. I assume Andy's limited PT was due to this being his first game back.... I just hope he didn't re-aggravate anything. Between Deng and Hawes, I am starting to lean strongly towards re-signing Hawes. He fits nicely with Kyrie and TT in the starting lineup, opening up the inside for both of them. Deng is surprisingly having a lot more problems changing systems.

Last night is probably going to be typical of The March of Death. That was a very tough matchup on the road with Andy, Dion, and CJ still out. Z-Bo Z-boed us in the 3rd quarter big time. But they should keep their head up. Losing to a healthy Memphis in Memphis is hard to avoid. The Cavs played very well last night. The final score was not indicative of how close that game was.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Our schedule is indeed brutal in March. But we are now winning the games we are supposed to win and sneaking in a few upsets along the way. Considering we are 3.5 games out of the 8th seed, how bad the Hawks are tanking lately (lost 10 of 11), and that the Bobcats are still the Bobcats, I'd put our odds at something higher than not having a "chance in hell"

That would be a mistake IMHO. Rubin is a model of consistency who really helps make our D-line one of the better, if not the best, unit on the team. He's supposedly a good locker room guy too.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Ummm..... is the "Editorial Board" not responsible for choosing the headlines? From October through January, the PD ran with the doomsday headlines in extra large, bold print on the front page. Everybody who still receives the paper couldn't miss it. Everyone who passes by the PD on the stand at the store couldn't miss it. This 'mea culpa'/revision was buried in the Forum section of today's paper. Goes to prove the point that bad news sells.
