Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Must be my cousin saw that in mid October or Mid November, I can't remember which. But that has to be one hell of a reno, if it started last year. It was supposed to be done by now. But it is a very old house with a lot of detail and he is taking the "get it right" approach over speed.

I absolutely LOVE Khalil Mack, but I have problems seeing him make the switch to ILB. He was a DE in college and I think he is either that in a 4-3 or an OLB in a 3-4. It would be like moving Mingo to ILB...... an idea I have actually heard tossed around. I think you can find quality ILBs in the later rounds. I like the guy from Wisconsin, Chris Borland, who is an Ohio kid the Browns apparently have some interest in. Imagine how much better the Buckeyes would have been if they signed him instead of Curtis Grant.

I wouldn't consider that to be a "useless show dunk"..... if he didn't "throw the hammer down" his shot would've been blocked (by Hawes, ironically). Useless show dunks are dunks you do in warm-ups or something extra-extravagent you might do when going to the hoops uncontested. But I agree it was an awful time to lose him. We were in the middle of our longest win streak in years and he was playing perhaps the best basketball of his pro career. You can see how many minutes Kyrie is force to play with Dion out. None of our other guards can break down a defense the way those two can.

I've always said that DQ is an excellent tackler.... five yards past the line of scrimmage. He also clearly fit better in the 4-3 scheme where he is protected from the OGs barreling down on him right from the snap. I strongly suspect that he is going to end up with a team that runs a 4-3 and at about half his salary.

I would think that you have to use steel for residential "towers".... basically anything over 4-5 floors.

^And I assume that it is the cheapest (or "most cost effective" if you prefer) method allowed under the building code. That, to me, constitutes "minimally acceptable under the building code" And I doubt that "everyone" is using wood framing. I am fairly certain that Uptown did not. I further assume that somewhere in this Country a brick building is being built right now.

Are we talking something to compete with Siedman Tower? Or is this something more small-scale?

You really need several polls to draw any reliable conclusions. True numbers are often outside the margins of error. And results from Quinnipiac, iirc, tend to lean a little left. That said, most polling methods are reliable enough to give you a good gauge on where the public is on any given issue or candidate, and 87% is a remarkable number for this poll. Remember how everyone (including certain unnamed members of this forum)said the polling from 2012 was wrong because everyone they knew who voted for a certain candidate in 2008 was not going to vote for him again and it was going to be "morning in America" again? (still makes me giggle because either those people are blatant liars or were blatantly lied to). Well... the guy whose method is to aggregate all the polls nearly nailed the election. Arithmetic!

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
I remember having to read the 2004 constitutional amendment several times to make sure I was voting the way I wanted to vote on the issue. It was poorly worded, most likely on purpose. The proposed amendment is very tactfully drafted. It pre-empts any false claims about forcing churches to perform marriages....... as if churches were ever required to perform marriages, but whatever. And I love that this group snatched up the name "FreedomOhio". It's stunning that some tea party group had not already done so. This could cause confusion in a good way. I actually would recommend altering the name to "FreedomOhio for Constitutional Liberty Patriots of Truth, Justice, and the American Way"

I highly doubt they get James Jones for a bargain. They will likely have to overpay any WR to come here until we have an established QB. Jones will stay in GB if he is looking for a bargain, or go to another Super Bowl contender. I like the group of free agent RBs and FBs. I think we need to sign one of each and draft a RB. The zone-blocking scheme is going to require 3 effective tailbacks. We maybe have one in Dion Lewis. The pressure from the DL was not bad at all last year for a 3-4. Towards the end of the year, it tailed off a bit with Desmond Bryant (our best pass rushing DL) being put on IR. The pressure from the OLB's (where it is supposed to come from in a 3-4) was indeed disappointing for the final 8 or so games. That was, again, caused somewhat by injury which hurt our depth. Sam is not going to play DL for us if we drafted him. He is an OLB in any 3-4 scheme. None of the FA QBs intrigue me. Moreno would be an excellent pick-up at RB given his familiarity with and success in the zone blocking scheme. McFadden might also do well with a change of scenery. Greg Jones would be a home-run at FB IMO.

I love Delly too. But he has had more than "a bad shooting night." In the entire month of February, he is shooting 27% from the floor (after shooting 31% in January) and 14% from 3. I don't understand why it seems like he has to put so much effort into shooting a three-pointer. He brings the ball from his hip and has a really bad hitch. I used to shoot like that..... in 7th-8th grade.

We've really missed the pressure Dion puts on the opposing defense these past two games. Lately, he has been successful in keeping the tide in our favor. The NBA is a game of runs and we have had a few less than our opponents the last two times out.

^I was speaking more generally, not in response to Ness's own conclusions based on costs and the City's makeup in 1935. I've personally never advocated for beat patrols city-wide, but rather only in specified areas where it would be effective, which we still have to a certain minimally acceptable degree

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
It is a question of quality. Concrete offers better sound insulation, is fire retardent, and does not warp over time like wood. You also have to consider that the wood used for construction these days comes from tree farms a lot of times and is not ideally aged. If I was seriously considering this building, I would at least want to see metal studs. When a completely stick built structure, I just assume that the developer is trying to do whatever is minimally acceptable under the building code. None of this, however, is to say that you can't build a quality building with just wood framing. There are other ways to minimize the downsides, such as using high-quality thick sheetrock and taking additional steps for sound insulation.

Uptown is the only new build residential project built recently which I can think of around here that was not stick built. It seems to be fairly standard, sadly. On top of that, it looks like they are going with an open-web truss system for the floor/ceiling space.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
All that depends on the trees. We'll get a bunch of Honey Locusts that bloom late (albeit with a nice yellow color) with mediocre coverage because they are cheap and low maintenance. I'm just saying this project needs variety. 5-6 months is half of the year. Some conifers spread around the square would keep a splash of green year round. Plus they would be perfect for holidays. I'm sure whatever they put there will be spruced (no pun intended) up during the winter months with holiday lights and other decorations. They won't look bare and dead.

Grovewood Tavern, one of the most underrated eateries in the City IMO, is still very close by. Also, from my perspective, the more "shaky" parts of the neighborhood are that slice between 152 and 140, south of Lakeshore and north of the freeway. The areas east of 152 are held back due to that proximity.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I'd prefer a design without the elevations. JMO 8 months? No need to make our winters any longer than they are. Our leaves are usually not on the ground until late October / early November, sometimes (rarely) not completely shedding until Thanksgiving or early December. They come back in April or early May depending on how quickly Spring sets in. The trees are "cold, dead" 5-6 months.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Since we are 'thinking big' here... the one thing that would be sure to elevate the interest in re-developing Burke (and the lakefront in general) would be to implement that plan which was floated to move the shoreway more inland from CPP to downtown, eliminating dead man's curve.
