Rumblings out there that Deng is being shopped, probably due to fear that we lose him in FA this summer. I think this is a long shot, but Deng for Harrison Barnes makes some sense for both teams assuming Deng gave some assurance that he would re-sign in GS.

I also think that Watkins might be BPA when we pick and would have no issue taking him at #4. He is a different kind of WR than Gordon. Almost a perfect compliment. He is capable of playing the slot and either outside position, and is terrific at getting upfield on WR screens. There is plenty of passes to go around in today's NFL.
  3. ^If only LR and Weston could agree upon a "reasonable price".... I don't think LR has any reluctance whatsoever to sell to Weston. It probably just feels that Weston's offer is insulting.
  4. I have to think that this is a ploy and not a serious proposal

^There's more to it under these circumstances. Smitheren is a 'public official' for the purposes of defamation law and the statement at issue would involve an area of public concern. As a plaintiff, he would have an extremely heightened burden to not just prove that the statemenet is false, but that it was knowingly false. The plaintiff also needs to show some level of malice. The law presumes that public figures - i.e. people who thrust themselves into the public spotlight - have thicker skin than the rest of us, as they should.

I think it depends (a) on the age of the kid; and (b) what type of youth league it is. Most leagues we involve our son in are community leagues, run and coached completely by volunteers. When you have 12-15 seven year olds at practice, it can be difficult for a single coach to attend to all the needs which arise as well as keep all the kids in line. I drop my kid off too sometimes in the sports that I don't coach, but I always check with another parent who is going to stay..... and, with our community leagues, most of the parents do stay, not to 'helicopter' or whatever you want to call it, but to actually.... gasp.... spend some time with your kid in the precious hours between getting home from work and the kid going to sleep. It's also a good way to socialize with the community. I still remember all the Dad's drinking beer on the sidelines of my youth football practices back in the 80's. My original post was spurred particularly by this youth basketball league my kid is involved with right now at an area church. His team is full of obnoxious brats (I suppose HIM will forgive) and the coach has no control over them. They seem like the type of kids who just get shuttled from one activity to the next. The church is in a wealthier community, so that's not that surprising. Nothing gets done at practice because the coach is constantly and miserably failing at keeping their attention. Part of it is his fault for not being a good enforcer, which led me to have to step in and give the kids an earful, which embarrassed my kid I'm sure.
  7. I suppose this could go in the "Local Media" thread, but since we've been discussing it here, might as well close it off here. Good for him. Too bad the damage is already done and largely irreversible. You're not going to see this follow up on 99% of the outlets that engaged in their own special brand of sensationalism.... ^^You must've went to some right-wing loony school. We had condom on cucumber lessons on the hour every hour my sophomore year..... it was a switch in SOP after learning we couldn't work with bananas without making a terrible mess. But by the time I was a senior, we were using oversized dildos in the classroom to practice the best methods for 'pulling out.'

Jack has been a disappointment IMO. It appears his athleticism has dropped. I say go for it so long as we are not basically giving him away. It would open up some $$ for the off-season. Come to think of it.... the Nets were the team that signed Livingston. I liked him much better. Is he healthy? Would they be willing to do a swap? No thanks on Jason Terry. We don't need another undersized SG

^^Yeah.... maybe we should make them take a test or something to get that diploma

I'd like to see a survey of how many Americans actually believe that. The results might be even more disturbing than this earth/sun thing
  12. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Urbanbar
Are you honestly suggesting that sex-ed classes and political correctness are to blame? You do realize this is a survey of all Americans, not just the ones that were educated on safe sex practices? Do you think the results would have been better in 1950? C'mon.... you're not that stubborn...
  13. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Urbanbar
I wonder how much of that result is traced to ignorance and how much is traced to religious obstinance (i.e. the notion of a earth centric universe)

Byrd would be a nice match next to Ward, but let's face reality..... they aren't going to pay both what their market rate is, especially following an impressive season by Gipson. CB is where the extra cash needs to go IMO
  15. No, I couldn't tell. It was right before 5pm, when the museums were closing and people were flowing out, which made it worse. I've put in a call to someone I know at City Hall, which is closed today
  16. Again, I'm assuming it was a transfer, but that is a safe bet. It wasn't a parking lot. It was right there on Erieside Ave.... about 100ft west of E9th, right in front of the RRHOF courtyard
  17. So I took the kids down to the GLSC today and while on the way back to E9th, I saw two cop cars in front of the RRHOF. One was a Mentor squad car. The other was from Strongsville. There was a guy getting cuffed. I thought WTF is going on before realizing they are likely doing a prisoner exchange..... which made me say WTF. C'mon... they can't find a better place than right outside our top tourist attraction to do that?

Parents who treat youth sports leagues as babysitting services..... especially when your child is under 10 years old. Practice and game time is not your opportunity to get your grocery shopping done. When your kid misbehaves or gets hurt, you need to be there to support the coach. At the very least, you should arrange something with one of the other parents so that somebody is there to deal with your kid when issues arise. I find this issue is 10x worse in church leagues, compared to community leagues, for whatever reason.
  19. Life without parole? Why not just give them the death penalty? Seriously, though, I hope hate crime charges are considered, but I don't see it sticking from the reports of the vet. As much as the Jesse Jacksons (when the victim is black) and Rush Limbaughs (when the victim is white) of the world would like to believe, hate crimes don't result solely from the assailant and victims being of different races. Nor does it make it a hate crime when some racially insensitive remarks are shouted during a robbery/assault/etc (especially when shouted by people witnessing the assault. For a hate crime to be charged, the crime must be motivated by the victim's race. I hate that this is national news. Why this and not the teen who was beaten nearly to a pulp the other month? Probably because of the fact that (a) the victim and suspects are of different races and (b) he is a disabled vet, the latter of which I highly doubt the suspects were aware of. On top of that, the vet really didn't seem to be physically injured and cops arrived in time to arrest the suspects and collect video evidence. Take away (a) and (b) and this is not even local news. I talk to cops almost everyday and have done so for quite a long time. Cops being pessimistic about the younger generation is no new phenomenon. Were you alive during the 1980's when getting mugged was mocked in the movies as no big deal..... or during the 1990's when car-jacking or being killed for something as simple as your "Jordans" was an epidemic? What honest and intelligent cops will tell you today is that one of the biggest problems is that thieves, especially around business centers and college campuses, know that there is a good chance that random victims are likely to have a $500 cellphone and a $500 tablet on their person. You are also 'see' more crime due to the internet containing videos captured by cell phone, tablet, or surveillance cameras. Back to your point.... I've referenced this before, but I will circle back again to respond. 'Breakfast Club' was a 1985 movie which might have best defined a generation at that time. Watch the below conversation between 'Vernon Davis' and 'Carl the Janitor'.... it really transcends generations and you can count on your kids and grandkids having the same conversation...
  20. Without supporting or defending the comment you were responding to in any way..... no one in Cleveland would ever dream of comparing CSU and OSU. But, yes, it has dorms and D1 atheltics and no it is not essentially a community college..... it is a university, albeit with a high (though dramatically dropping) enrollment of commuters. But, also, as far as academics go, CSU is not the top university in Cleveland. That title would belong to CWRU, which is generally considered the top academic university in the State of Ohio

Relic? Idk.... he looked fairly spry while getting some landscaping done at his parents' home in Shaker last summer:
  22. It's closer to E9th/Euclid or E4th than it is to PS. And it makes a huge difference in terms of the claim that no one stepped in to help him and also the boldness of the attackers. The video posted by 19ActionNews was titled "Public Square Assault"..... Ed Gallek stood on Public Square while reporting the story. Even still, police arrived in time (despite "no one stepping in") to stop the assault prior to the victim recieving any injuries which prevented him from jogging away from the EMS truck on the scene. Luckily, it did not end up nearly as bad as the teen from a month or two ago who had to be hospitalized. Obviously, either the police arrived very quickly, the attackers were not nearly as aggressive, or this vet (despite being disabled... PTSD if I had to guess) proved very capable in defending himself. NOTE: please at least attempt to intelligently digest my comments before responding with the standard "excusing poor behavior" response. I have no desire whatsoever to marginalize the conduct of the suspects to any degree. I'm merely commenting on the reporting style...... especially since this story has been picked up and spready by every racist website in the country.
  23. This did not happen on Public Square. It happened at E6 and Euclid. It's 19Action News' way of making a horrible story seem even worse. Thankfully, at least two of the suspects are of legal age.

And they had a good running game (and defense). I like the Chiefs analogy because, like the Browns, the Chiefs' record from two years ago did not match up with the individual talent on that roster. Way too many pro-bowlers to be that bad. Same thing can be said about the Browns last season
