Cleveland Browns Discussion
Tate's upcoming free agency was discussed a lot in Browns' circles ever since the Trent Richardson trade. It was said then that the Browns' front office was very high on him. I have some concerns about his injury history. He has never been able to stay healthy as a backup. I'm not sure how he would do as a featured back. That said, RB depth is the key and we have none. I think in today's NFL you need 3 quality RBs to start the season. You need 2 for any given game and there is no way everyone stays healthy for all 16. Dion Lewis should fill one of the spots. I also desperately want to sign a FB. A real FB.

Cleveland growth strategies -- hit singles or home runs?
Probably because they are relegated to hiding in the shadows of the more "assimilated" latino communities.

Cleveland growth strategies -- hit singles or home runs?
I know plenty of Irish, Italians, Greeks, etc. who are still maintain the culture and heritage of their homeland, even though their family has been here for generations. Your argument doesn't hold water in the slightest. Do you honestly, putting all hatred aside, believe that mexican immigrants want to (a) bring their culture here as all immigrants do; and (b) expect us to be all the ones to do all the adapting? How do you possibly reach that conclusion? And you consistently fail to understand the concept of a melting pot. But, then again, I suppose there has always been a very vocal minority of Americans who don't like the idea of a melting pot.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
There is some inconsistency on that site. If you look up Cleveland and scroll down to the neighborhoods, downtown gets an 87. But if you search specifically for Downtown Cleveland, the score is 92. I wonder how much the new Heinen's being built downtown is going to boost the score. I know walkscore gives a lot of consideration to grocery stores or the lack thereof. Same thing happnes for Cincy's downtown, which goes up from 91 to 97 when you search for it specifically. Chagrin Falls, BTW, gets a 94 on the whole. I wonder what the highest scoring city in Ohio is.

That would be of monumental assistance in achieving the desired result.

Yet another race card EVD? If any of the "analysis" from your "perspective" ignores the religious affiliations of blacks, it might not be due to racism, but rather due to the fact that blacks are no more religious in any given City in this State than any other. Maybe you have some stats which could inform us otherwise.

^Conservatives don't have a problem with immigrants. They just don't like Mexicans.

^You've never lived on the east side of Cleveland, which has two large orthodox jewish neighborhoods in Cleveland Heights and University Heights, as well as pretty much the entire City of Beachwood - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_population_by_urban_areas (Beachwood comes in #2 in terms of per capita jewish population in the world outside of Israel). Keep in mind, also, that we are talking about "bible-mindedness" so I don't think we would count Cincy and Cleveland's non-practicing jewish populations, both of which are probably significant compared to those who actually go to temple.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
That makes sense, but it is a little more technical than that. I am not having a brain fart this morning. There really is no such thing as "armed robbery" within the ORC. There is robbery and there is aggravated robbery. A robbery charge can carry with it a specification (probably for sentencing purposes only) that the offender had a firearm on him (but did not display it) during commission of the offense. If you have it, then it is robbery. If you show it, then it is aggravated robbery. It is also aggravated robbery if it is a certain type of weapon (a dangerous ordinance - assault rifle, bomb, etc.) regardless of whether you display it or not. Sounds like the charge in this incident was robbery with a specification that one of the offenders had a weapon on him either during the offense or while immediately fleeing thereafter (if he has it while fleeing, then it is implied that he had it during the offense obviously).

Does that site you linked look at City or Metro population? Most of Cleveland's jews no longer live in the City itself, but rather in the eastern suburbs. There are significant jewish populations in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, University Heights, Beachwood, and some of the other outer ring burbs along the I-271 corridor. The Jewish population has continued to move eastwards after abandoning the Hough neighborhood. This link below places Cleveland #7 in terms of top 30 Jewish cities and Cincy doesn't appear on it. It probably doesn't hold true anymore, but I'm fairly certain at one point that Cleveland had the highest jew-per-capita population in the country outside of NYC. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2010/12/01/americas-30-most-jewish-cities-from-new-york-to-miami-to-los-angeles.html#url=/articles/2010/12/01/americas-30-most-jewish-cities-from-new-york-to-miami-to-los-angeles.html

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^^Why were they charged with armed robbery if it was a snatch and grab? I was talking to a cop the other day who said mentioned how street crimes such as these are escalating out of control everywhere due to the fact that over 50% of people are walking around with a $400 piece of electronics in their hand that a robber snatch and run off with rather easily. It made me think how you never hear of people's TV's/VCR's/etc. getting stolen anymore. Similarly, I can't remember the last time I knew someone who had their car stereo ripped out. Thieves don't need to go the trouble now that everyone is walking around with iphones, tablets, laptops, etc.

Perhaps. But I would suspect that Cleveland's "Bible-mindedness" is a bit different with our large® catholic and jewish populations. And especially with jews, that makes a big difference in terms of how it permeates through the city.

So the consensus is more jobs and better schools? Quick.... somebody email a link to this thread over to City Hall pronto! I kid... but seriously, I like the immigrant ideas. Arguably, that is what made us a mega-city back in our prime. To comment on the schools, however, I think schools fall firmly into the "egg" category. Good schools follow good communities and bad schools follow bad communities.

Cleveland growth strategies -- hit singles or home runs?
Those are not comparable cities And, keep in mind, if you don't want to create a massive deficit in the State budget, elimination of the income tax has to be accompanied by massive increases in other forms of taxes. Many states with no state income tax and which can't make up the difference via extraction/sale of natural resources, have high property taxes and very high consumption taxes for things like gas, milk, liquor, etc.

Cleveland growth strategies -- hit singles or home runs?
Stop swinging for the fences and try to just hit some singles.... let the homers come when a modest swing makes exceptional contact. Focus on quality over quantity (in terms of both jobs and people). Regionalize. Invest in the core.

NFL: General News & Discussion
Furs and pimp style? Huh? That wasn't the issue. Stern would've been just fine with players in mink coats and Stacey Adams shoes on the bench. The dress code was put in to place due to players dressing in sweats, jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps, and sneakers, etc....... ironically, many of the products NBA players are hired to market.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I think she is somewhat the victim of people taking a leap of faith and turning out to be correct. It seems in the twitter world, sports people will go ahead and make an educated guess and then when they turn out to be correct, they pound their chest. If they turn out to be wrong, nobody beats them up too bad. The NBA trade rumor circles are the worst with this. For the record, and to be fair to her, I do believe the reports that the Browns reached out to McDaniels one last time yesterday before finalizing the deal with Pettine.

^Right you are. I was suprised by that, since I always associate Aurora and Hudson together. Looks like it is right at the point where Cuyahoga/Summit/Portage/Geauga all meet.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Heard some talk this morning that the Browns might want to bring in Gary Kubiak as their OC. That would be a great hire, but supposedly he has other offers, he has ongoing health concerns, and the Texans still owe him a ton of money he can make without lifting a finger. The PD mentioned the name Alex Van Pelt as a possible candidate as well. The DC will be the LBs coach from the Bills (Jim O'Neil?). Mary Kay Cabbot has quite a lot of egg on her face today. Supposedly, Will Berge (who now works for Bleecher Report) called into 92.3 yesterday before lunch to tell them that multiple sources had indicated to him that Pettine would be hired. MKC then called in to adamantly deny those rumors and confirm that her sources confirmed just the opposite. Ooooops. Not a good look for the lead beat reporter at the PD to get scooped by some AM radio cast-off who is biding his time at Bleecher Report.
