  1. Aurora is kind of in between. It is in the Akron metro (due to it being in Summit County..... the extreme northern part of the county), but probably has an even split of commuters. It is easily accessible from the east side suburbs of Cleveland. If Cleveland drew its boundaries like Columbus, it might even fall within the City proper. I've never been to the restaurant in Aurora. Lola I would consider very upscale, but not quite fine dining. Giovanni's is the epitome of fine dining. They know your name before you even ask for your table and good luck trying to empty out your water glass before it is re-filled by the water boy standing at attention not too far away.
  2. I wasn't overly surprised that Cleveland only had one restaraunt (Lola) with a 4 star or higher rating because Clevelanders - while they love to eat out and eat good - just aren't all that big on 'fine dining' IMO. That said, both Giovani's in Beachwood and Leapord in Aurora received 4 stars as well..... they just aren't listed under 'Cleveland'
  3. They were 'venting' the fire. I wonder if this fire had something to do with the cold playing havoc on the electrical systems and I also wonder whether the spinkler system worked properly also due to the cold.

To be fair, that was the game with a TJ Ward pick-6 and one of TBenjamin's returns. And, iirc, Buffalo was missing their two best DB's. Buffalo had a top 10 Def last year. The years he was with the Jets, they had a top 10 Def each year, with the #1 unit in 2009. Thankfully, he runs the same hybrid 3-4
  5. I was simply correcting the statement that Bush's last budget year was $458. Oh yeah.... while we're at it, let's not forget about this little...... ummmmm..... sidenote to Bush's budgets: The most striking fact about the cost of the war in Iraq has been the extent to which it has been kept "off the books" of the government's ledgers and hidden from the American people. This was done by design. * * * * * The most obvious way in which the true cost of this war was kept hidden was with the use of supplemental appropriations to fund the occupation. By one estimate, 70% of the costs of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2003 and 2008 were funded with supplemental or emergency appropriations approved outside the Pentagon's annual budget. These appropriations allowed the Bush administration to shield the Pentagon's budget from the cuts otherwise needed to finance the war, to keep the Pentagon's pet programs intact and to escape the scrutiny that Congress gives to its normal annual regular appropriations. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/mar/11/us-public-defrauded-hidden-cost-iraq-war

  7. ^Well just a minute there, Professor. You're assuming Obama 'owns' the FY2009 deficit and Bush is free of blame. That's BS which has been rebuked over and over again. Fiscal years for government budgets start in October BTW. That record high deficit was for FY2009 (i.e. Oct. 2008-Sept. 2009). Obama was sworn into office in late January 2009 in the midst of one of the greatest drops in tax revenue the federal government had ever encountered The chart is based on the assumption that the current administration should be blamed for the 2009 fiscal year. While this makes sense to a casual observer, it is largely untrue. The 2009 fiscal year began October 1, 2008, nearly four months before Obama took office. The budget for the entire fiscal year was largely set in place while Bush was in the White House. http://www.cato.org/blog/dont-blame-obama-bushs-2009-deficit

Jimmy and Joe would have to eat a whole lotta crow to hire Pettine. He in no way fits the narrative of the type of coach they said they were looking for when they fired Chud.

I seem to remember hearing that Churchill (or one of GB's leaders) said that if Hitler had seen Cleveland's industrial valley in the late 1930's, Germany would've never started WWII

^That was contradicted by reports this morning that no deal was reached and the Browns are going to interview other candidates. Whomever they end up with, you can be sure of one thing...... he was "their guy" all along..... they were just covering their bases by talking to other candidates.

Not quite correct. While downtown is certainly far more accessible in terms of the current bus routes, it is not "centrally located." Mt. Airy is centrally located. I would like to see a study before a move is approved. Let's examine the number of those who vote early and what percentage actually arrive via the metro. The downtown location is probably a hindrance to some voters who, while they own cars, do not have the flexibility of circumstances to vote on election day. What do those numbers look like? Also, what is the purpose of early voting? Is it to make voting convenient for the largest number of people, or is it to make voting convenient for folks without cars? It's not an exact science, but it is centrally located from any objective standpoint even if there might be a more exact central location. And it not only offers bus routes, but also rapid routes and is at the point of convergance of nearly every major roadway. As for the goal of early voting, I would say it is premised on the notion that not everyone can spare the time on election day to go to the polls, such as the people who may work two jobs, or who have don't have nannies for their kids, or who are not high up enough on the ladder at the workplace to take a two hour lunch break. It is a convenience for many, but more importantly it is a necessity for some who want to cast in-person ballots. Absentee voting probably disproportionately benefits the elderly, active duty military personnel, and college kids. Nothing wrong with that. Every one can take adavantage of it. Early voting probably disproportionately benefits the economically disadvantaged, yet there is no means testing to engage in it. Nothing wrong with that either.

The downtown location is centally located, has multiple access points for public transportation, and is closest to those voters who are disadvantaged in terms of being able to be mobile. On the whole, for those who can afford a car, it is the best location. Under any analysis, for those who can't afford a car, it is the best location. It's simple logic.

I don't know if expansion is what they are proposing. But why not? Either location is biased towards one party or the other. Agreed. And I can practically guarantee that no Democrat BOE member would vote against having more locations, if that was indeed an option.
  16. It's only a big blow if FEB simply replaces his restaurant with another with the same footprint. But if it leads to a re-thinking of the plans for the riverfront, I'd chalk it down as a positive. Speculation at this point I guess
  17. Hts121 replied to Boreal's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
I'm confused. Is it what E Rocc was saying above (i.e. that Republicans want to expand the locations) or is it that the Republicans want to simply move the single location? If the former and given the demonstrated record of these Board's under the Kasich administration, I'd be highly skeptical of the motives.

The only way Grant trades Dion is if it is in a package to bring another established All-Star to the team. I think he realizes that not every player can come into the league at 20 and dominate. Dion thinks very highly of himself, which is both a good thing (when he is on) and a bad thing (when he is off). I don't think he was ball-hogging at all last night, or in any of the recent games. He has been sharing the ball quite well..... better than Kyrie I'd say. He also is giving good effort on the defensive end, for the most part. I always expected the three guard lineup to be scrapped once we got Deng. When it was either play a three guard lineup or go with Earl Clark or Alonzo Gee down the stretch in crunch time, it was a no-brainer. Now, Brown is just riding Kyrie, TT, Andy, Deng and then whomever out of Dion, Jack, and Miles is playing the best in any particular game.

Dion has some growing up to do. If his shot is not falling, it affects his entire game and he loses focus. I definitely see improvement in TT.... I just wish he was 2 inches taller (same for Dion). The guy just switched shooting hands, which has never been done before. I thought that was going to be a rough transition, but I feel in another year or two he has the potential to be really dangerous with an array of moves. That said, I've never projected him as a perennial all-star. Horace Grant seems to be his ceiling. If Kyrie's numbers stay flat for his entire career, he'll be a HOF'er. I would actually prefer to see Kyrie more at 18 & 8 rather than 22 & 5. I certainly don't see any regression in any of the three.

^Talk about a game of up and downs. I finally got to watching it about 9pm..... wanted to throw my remote through the TV at the end of the first half..... was on the edge of my seat the entire second half as we closed like a racehorse....... and then, ugggh. I'm not a Mike Brown hater like a lot of Cavs fans, but two patterns seem to be repeating from his earlier tenure - (1) end of game offense is horrendous and (2) we fall victim to the proverbial 'trap game' after returning from a lengthy road trip. How the F do we have two games in the past two weeks in which we completely fail to get a shot off with a chance to tie at the buzzer? What a waste of all that effort and energy Andy and TT expended willing us back into that game yesterday...
  21. Only that the comments section at the end of the story on Cleveland.bomb has a chance to survive
  22. Quite the opposite. I think he created some endorsement potential. You don't see too many CB's in national advertising campaigns. Slim Jim was probably on the horn with his agent before that post-game interview ended.

Disclaimers at the end of commercials. I think we can all agree that anything you ingest may cause you to have diarrhea. Just let me know when that risk is significantly increased and/or has the potential to cause severe diarrhea.
  24. The Deficit Is Vanishing. America Isn't As Broke As You May Think. You can't turn on the TV without hearing of the United States' burgeoning deficit. But while the deficit may be big in absolute terms, looking at it in relative terms reveals that the United States isn't doing as bad as some may want you to believe. The cold, hard numbers In calendar year 2009, at the depth of the recession, the deficit was a massive, $1.47 trillion. At the time, it was more than 10% of gross domestic product -- all goods and services produced within the nation's borders. The United States' fiscal condition has since improved remarkably. Now, just four years later, the American deficit stands at $560.5 billion for the 2013 calendar year, nearly one-third of the deficit recorded one presidential election ago. * * * * * In the last three calendar months of 2013, the U.S. deficit plunged to just $174 billion, down from $293 billion in 2012. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/01/19/the-deficit-is-vanishing-america-isnt-as-broke-as.aspx
  25. ^A Stanford grad who started a master's degree during his final year of NCAA eligibility. U mad bro?;) Look into his background. It's an impressive tale. Came out of Dominguez HS in Compton as the class Salutatorian while being a two sport star athlete. Can't be easy. It's not rare at all for an NFL player's on-field persona to not match his off-field character. It's quite common, actually. I've liked Sherman ever since his interview with Skip Bayless, whom I despise. I agree with the take that it was a WWE worthy performance.
