As 2013 drew to a close, Gov. John Kasich crowned his beloved JobsOhio program “the most important economic development tool in America.” Kasich must know something that more than 11 million other Ohioans do not. Because, by any measure imaginable, 2013 was a year in which the JobsOhio results didn’t remotely match the rhetoric. With its rocky rookie season behind it, last year was supposed to be when JobsOhio arrived, when it blossomed into the job-producing economic juggernaut its champions promised. * * * * * The December figures are scheduled for release Friday. But through November 2013, here is Ohio’s monthly job-creation ranking among the 50 states: January - 43, February - 41, March- 48, April - 47, May - 43, June - 46, July - 45, August - 44, September - 42, October - 45, November - 46. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2014/01/dismal_numbers_on_ohio_job_gro.html#incart_river The comments section to this article is priceless! Answered many of my questions about how these poor results would be spun.

^The guy flat out knows how to play the game. I just want to know who the joker is that gave him that haircut. Friday was the most 'gutty' win of the season. Denver has a built in home-court advantage due to the altitude and it is not uncommon for the visiting team to collapse down the stretch. But our guys kept countering each and every Denver run. It was a really exciting game. ESPN could've probably taken its nightly Top 10 Plays from that game alone. Lesson from this road trip is that we play our best at a fast pace. I think there is a misconception that just because Brown is known as a defensive coach, he does not like to play at a fast pace. To the contrary, I think his system is at its weakest in the half-court sets, which is why we have more problems with the tougher Eastern Conf. teams that seek to slow the pace down as opposed to playing at a pace more often seen from Western Conf. teams. I don't see how, on the whole, any basketball fan wouldn't enjoy watching this team play.
  4. Total guess here..... but the materials inside that building might be a scrapper's paradise given it's age and style
  5. ^I imagine that, unlike residential, they need a certain percentage of tenant commitments to get financing for an office building.

I can't get this to play on my computer, but I heard it on the radio yesterday afternoon. Funny.... http://www.wtam.com/pages/trivpage.html?article=11981512 Also, I saw this while looking for the above link....
  7. Haven't you ever heard that misery loves company? :)

No. I think the combine actually muddles the mock drafts. There are always a few players who make a leap at the combine, but more often it is just hype and the pieces eventually fall back into place. Good GMs know to trust the game film and scouting reports more than watching a guy run and jump in shorts and a t-shirt. Too many teams have been burned by "combine warriors." Don't be surprised about Bridgewater, especially if he measures shorter than expected. Nobody would've predicted that Gino Smith, Brady Quinn, or Aaron Rogers would slip to where they ended up in their respective drafts. ^I would be shocked if Clowney drops to 4. But if he's there, you won't hear any objection from me to the Browns taking him.

Most of the separation occured when we were forced to chuck up three's (and missing) and then fouling Portland to stop the clock. Portland is really rolling this season. They are an unbelievable jump shooting team which kind of reminds me of that Bucks team (with Big Dog, Ray Allen, and Sam Cassell) which made the finals 10 or so years ago. I thought we played them tough and the final score is definitely not indicative of how close the game was. It was back and forth until the last two minutes. Our shots just didn't fall at the end and I think we were out of gas after playing a back-to-back on the west coast. It has to be hard to get enough energy together to close a game out when your internal clock is telling you it is past midnight. I always thought that was an unfair advantage in the NBA, much like it is somewhat unfair to make NFL west coast teams play 1pm EST games. Deng was fantastic last night. He is getting more and more comfortable with our guys. Him and Andy seem to be quickly developing some chemistry, which has shown up nicely through their interior cuts and passing. If we beat Denver (again) on Friday, we will have gone 3-2 on our west coast trip and that has to be viewed in a positive light.
  10. I'll give you that..... but does he have reclining features? What type of warranty does he come with?

Mel Kiper's first mock draft has Houston taking Manziel #1 and has us taking Bortles at #4. Bridgewater slides to the Vikings at #8. I have trouble seeing it play out like that. Houston will be under some pressure to take Manziel, but I think their M.O. will ultimately lead them to Clowney. While I'm more than OK taking Bortles, I don't see us taking him over Bridgewater.
  13. That makes sense. Sorry, it was just a guess. Wasn't trying to touch a nerve ;)
  14. Am I missing some inside joke here?
  15. I inferred it was something along the lines of global name recognition, perhaps...

That said, we haven't had any confirmation that any candidate has been offered and turned down the job... a la Kelly last year. It's entirely possible, as I alluded to earlier, that Gase is and has always been their top pick.

^And ownership has had a rough year. And the Banner/Lombardi combo might be on thin ice.

I DVR'd the game and got up early to watch it. Entertaining. Luol was unbelievable. Andy was Andy again. Some of the Lakers were making shots they had no business making. If they didn't get great games from Young and Meeks, it would've been a blowout. We scored 120 and Kyrie was off again. It is hard to imagine that happening, so it is a good statement about the supporting cast being able to step up. The defense was troubling again, though. I think part of it is they are not yet in sync with Deng and Varejao playing with the starters and the rotations are late. Brown can't be too pleased with giving up 240 points in 2 games. We can't do that tonight against Portland.
  19. ^We'll see how happy you are for GE when it slaps some cheesy logo up on the chandelier to make sure everyone know who is paying the operating expenses
  20. WOIO will have their hands full with his lawyer. Andy Kabat is no hack
  21. Does DCA have volunteers? I know the 'ambassadors' are paid, but I thought they also had a volunteer component. If it was me with the free time, I would call the CMSD. The school district is constantly looking for ways to offer more after school and extracurricular activities for the kids. I did something a several years back and still loosely keep in contact with a few of the kids, who are adults now.
  22. I suppose my wife counts as part of that dropping participation rate. After she had our second child, she decided she wanted to stay home. More stay at home parents is not a bad thing IMHO, even if it does mean less 'workers' in the labor market and less demand for day care services, which also drops the participation rate. On the whole, I agree that it is a headwind. But there are also some good angles to it. Like most debated issues in our society, it is more complex than those 'moderating' the debates would have us believe.
  23. Vrabel going to the NFL will hurt the most with recruiting. He was Urban's secret 'living room' weapon. Having a Super Bowl champ who most of these kids watched growing up certainly helped make the sell. There is still an outside chance for Bryant, no? I thought he had one more appeal left. No one ever expected Roby to stay. I'm a bit surprised about Shazier. I thought he would stay another year to try and add a few more pounds, but perhaps he has already hit his limit. If he doesn't absolutely smoke the 40 at the combine, his draft stock could tumble. It's a good thing last year's and this year's recruiting class were so high quality and deep in the back seven of the defense.

^It was last night, not Saturday. We were down by 9 at the half. I thought we would win it because Sacto shot the lights out in the first half and Kyrie was cold. It would've been an easy gap to close IMO if all things were equal, but Sacto was just too hot. They weren't missing and we weren't making. Even Derrick Williams, who shoots 18% from 3, was 'making it rain'. Jimmer couldn't miss. Isaiah Thomas couldn't miss. In contrast, we couldn't hit the broad side of the barn. I wouldn't take too much from last night.
