  1. Now that might be considerd 'forced marketing'..... at least the family friendly part. There is stuff to do downtown with the kids, for sure. But do we even have one playground, a swingset........ hell, a decent sledding hill or one of those small splash parks would be a start. We need more things to do with kids downtown that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (i.e. aquarium, GLSC, sporting events). Winters at the Jake (or whatever it was called) was nice while it lasted, but you had to take out a second mortgage to buy tickets. Right now, downtown is built for the single or empty nest life. I'm not saying you can't raise a family downtown, but 'family friendly' is not what comes to mind.
  2. Were the two games last year blacked out? I only asked because I didn't even think blackouts were an issue anymore in the NFL until reading this.... The cities most affected by blackouts are Buffalo, Cincinnati, San Diego and Tampa. Owners continuously fail to sell enough tickets to home games, which trigger the blackouts. http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/nfl-blackouts-what-it-means-for-sports-fans When push comes to shove in most markets, the local interests who profit from the games being televised step up and buy the remaining seats. However, I also learned from another site that the regular season rule which allow tickets to be bought up at 1/3 cost to prevent a blackout doesn't apply to playoff games....... so I guess it is more of a legit threat than I earlier presumed.
  3. When was the last time, regular season or playoffs, that a Bengals game was blacked out locally?
  4. The most offensive crime at BPM are the prices. It's been at least a year for me now since I set foot in that place and I'm better off for it.

Flacco? Not at all. Bortles is listed at 6'4, but I bet he is closer to 6'3. He's also more thick than lanky...... and he has way quicker feet than Flacco. Flacco's appeal was his cannon arm....... while Bortles' arm strength might be his biggest question mark. I see McNabb due to his thicker frame, quick feet, ability to throw on the run and off his back foot (when necessary), his ability to step up in the pocket, his incredibly short and quick release, and his precision in the short passing game. Of course, I am referencing McNabb before he got fat. You probably won't see many pro scouts make the same comparison because, for whatever reason, they are apparently not allowed to make comparisons between white and black QBs. Oh yeah..... if you google search for a pic of Bortles, you are more likely to find hits for his SMOKIN HOT girlfriend 8-)

I think I've read more in this thread on gubernatorial primaries than I have previously in my entire life. It's a non-issue. It's Kasich vs. Fitzgerald and nothing is going to change that. To the extent either spends any money leading up to their 'official' nomination, it will be targeted at the other, not their primary 'challengers.' That said, I suspect Kasich is actually quite ecstatic that these schleps are choosing to challenge him in the primary as opposed to making a big stink about his recent changes to the electoral process which effectively prohibited third party candidates in the general election. I'm frankly surprised the Tea Party and self-proclaimed Libertarians are so mum on this.
  7. I think the last real blowout I had to bring in the New Year was for the millenium and I went downtown. The Isley Brothers were playing on Public Square iirc. Has there really not been any New Year's celebrations since then?

I was thinking the Big Ben comparison for the reason that there were two much more hyped, major conference QBs who went ahead of him in his draft class - Eli Manning and Phillip Rivers. I would say that Ben has had the most successful career. But I think that is where the comparison ends. In terms of style of play, I think Bortles reminds me most of Donavon McNabb.

^Yes...... but the rumor is that, while Banner is saying that the coach can pick his own staff, Jim Schwartz is the prohibitive favorite to be DC. That's a big assumption. Clowney could end up being the #1 pick..... or he could end up like Nick Fairley and drop from presumptive #1 all the way out of the top 10. I also think that, when all is said and done, Khalil Mack is going to be rated above Barr and perhaps even Clowney. I liked what I saw from Bortles last night and from watching his highlight films. Good size, good feet, great competitor. I want to know more about his arm strength. For now, he's my #2 behind Teddy B. Johnny MF'in Football scares me as much as he excites me.
  10. Won't the local bars and advertisers buy up any shortfall to prevent a blackout?

I hate to break it to you E, but nobody pays any attention to gubernatorial primaries. And the PO whatever thing is a dead end anyways....... it will only matter to those who are looking to reinforce their vote for Kasich. Kasich has got a bit of a hole to dig out of, so he's lucky he doesn't have a stronger candidate to run against. He's pissed off the wingnuts (the reason why I will probably vote for him), but he's not delivered from an economic progress standpoint. It's like that saying about when you fight a war for oil, get some oil. He rans on jobs, jobs, jobs and Ohio is still lagging behind. It would be nice for him if he could justify his performance by citing the complexities created by the recession and the impact it had on the state, but people who tend to vote his way don't want to hear about that.
  12. Gimme a break. It's been awhile and it was a big school. Curly mustache guy was one of the football coaches too...... I just couldn't remember his name. So let me get this straight because I had a friend who asked (his daughter is currently at Wiley) and I didn't know. Wiley students will be split between Roxboro and Monticello next year? Do all of the HS students move over to Wiley while the reno of the HS is done? And then ALL of the middle school students move over to Wiley so they can renovate Roxboro and Monticello?

^Yes, yes..... KJP beat you to that. You can see my response above. If McDaniels is hired, there might be a smidgen of truth to this. Some feel he was their top choice last year, but he had just uprooted his family from Denver and wasn't ready for another move. Given their connections to Lombardi, I think McDaniels and Jim Schwartz are the two leading candidates at the moment.

It's rare that a deal in the NBA is "close" if the public has heard about it. More likely, it means that it has been discussed and, if nothing has been announced by the time the rumor mill picks up on it, already either been discarded or tabled. With this specific rumor, I would guess that it has been tabled. The Lakers are likely asking for too much, such as Bynum + Waiters or Tristan or a 1st rounder. The Lakers simply want Bynum so they can cut him before his salary becomes guaranteed so they can create some cap space and save on the luxury tax. But their fanbase would go ballistic if they dumped Gasol just so they can dump salary. On the other hand, Chris Grant won't make a deal unless he feels he is getting the better end of it from a talent standpoint. It seems he wants to create a bidding war amongst a few teams who are beyond the luxury tax threshold and who aren't going to make any noise in the playoffs due to injuries....... mainly, the Lakers and the Bulls.
  15. Oftentimes what happens is not that the guy gets 30 days in jail (although that might be all a generic community blotter watch might understand). He gets sentenced to 3 years in jail and the sentence is suspended pending fulfillment of certain conditions..... such as getting a GED, getting and maintaining a job, etc. This is a tactic used to help ease the overcrowding of the jail system. The problem then becomes resources in enforcing the terms of the release. The defendant might violate the terms the next day and a warrant will issue but he won't re-appear before the judge until he gets arrested for something else. At that point, in all likelihood, the sentence will be fully imposed. Maybe the residents of Cuyahoga County would be interested in beefing up the Sherrif's office so they can be more proactive in going after parole violators. Again... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  16. I was at US for my entire freshmen year. Don't ask.... one of those square peg, round hole things. Regardless, iirc, you didn't have to take any PE courses if you played sports. I know I never took one gym class while at Heights. Isn't Wiley Middle School closing next year or the year after? I thought the plan was to close Wiley as a middle school and then move the HS students over there while the rennovations at the HS are completed. Coach Hoon? The guy with the curly mustache?
  17. The public can't access the juvenile court docket
  18. Juvenile cases are always heard in juvenile court..... from major crimes on down to traffic tickets. The only exception is when the juvenile is tried as an adult, and that only occurs for the most serious crimes (probably nothing less than an F1). I said "kids" in the most generic sense, meaning to imply that 18-24 age group (approximately) which is responsible for so much of the crime.
  19. All municipal court judgeds send felonies to common pleas. They have no choice because they have no jurisdiction. But still tons of crimes, including many violent offenses, alcohol related crimes, drug offenses, disorderly conduct, and most other crimes committed by the kids who are leading their way into the more serious offense we would like to prevent, are run through the municipal courts and he was known for a zero tolerance policy. His policy was not just known in the legal community either. The criminals knew it, yet were not deterred to any measurable extent.
  20. If I undestood your (not too) subtle jab correctly..... THAT team was led by an owner who was thinking about being bad enough to attempt to alienate an unwavering fanbase so as to 'justify' a move of one of the league's most storied franchises to Baltimore (where Belichik started his coaching career, ironically).
  21. ^Same questions would be asked. Where is the jail space going to come from? Who is going to pay for it? You'd also need to address sentencing guidelines. Regardless, I doubt you would find much probative evidence to suggest that having a take-no-sh!t judge has much effect on crime. Just take a look at Euclid during the times of 'Stick-em-Nickum' I think one repeated theme in most of these "why wasn't this guy still in jail" scenarios is a complete and utter failure in the mental health sector of the rehabilitation system. I sometimes look up the past court dockets of these repeat offenders and it appears at simple glance that the mental health programs and follow up is poorly done once the sentencing guidelines force these individuals back out on the street.
  22. ^Eggsactly my line of thought

I will say this for Chud..... I don't recall the locker room ever being this upset when any of our previous coaches got canned. Of course, we never canned any of them after only one year..... even if in certain situations and using hindsight that would've been the right move.
  24. ^No inside scoop, if that is what you are asking. It is just simple logic in my head. They spent $85 million for the air rights, the ramp was demolished, and engineering studies (at least preliminary studies) have been done.

Some would argue that it did pre Tom Brady falling in his lap. Fairly or not, his personality (or lack thereof) was a source of great criticism while he was here in Cleveland.....especially the emotionless way he dealt with the Bernie fiasco. Regardless, the stoic Belicheck model is much more the exception than the norm when it comes to wildly successful NFL head coaches.
