^ http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/04/ridiculous-rumors-no-kyries-not-going-to-new-york-in-two-years-kevin-martin-not-mad-at-okc/ New Yorkers can't get over the fantasy that their franchises can simply point at the player they want and that player will come. It seems to be a distorted view based on what the Yankees are allowed to do with no salary cap in baseball. In the NBA, no player has ever turned down a max extension off his rookie contract. LBJ, Wade, Bosh built in out clauses after 3 years, but none have ever just walked

Right now, getting off to a good start in a game is crucial to this team. We had a very ugly start to last night's game. None of the starters played well out of the gates, with the exception of Bynum. Remember what I was saying about CJ when he was on fire to start the season? Yep.... that's just who he is. I don't think we can afford to start someone as inconsistent as him. But then again, absent doing what I suggested and starting Jack, I don't know if there is a better option.... at least not until Karasev finishes puberty. No way I'm taking Dion out of that 6th man role in which he is currently thriving. His play has really stepped up and Bynum continues to improve since breaking out against Chicago and is really starting to get into a good groove on both ends of the floor. Bynum's last three games - 25.8 mpg - 18.0 ppg - 10.0 rpg - 2.0 apg - 2.7 bpg - 53.4% fg% Waiters last five games (since being placed into 6th man role) - 31.2 mpg - 20.0 ppg - 3.6 rpg - 3.3 apg - 52.9 fg% - 40.0% 3fg%
  3. All of the storefronts between 18th and 21st.... are they back up to full capacity? I seem to remember that we lost some businesses there when the Euclid Corridor was under construction. Is the deli still there? That place always seemed popular, at least moreso than the Giro place As for what would work at this property, I would guess those businesses which cater towards the college aged crowd moreso than theatre goers. A convenience store or CVS/Wallgreens/RiteAid would probably do well, as would any fast-food joint or sandwich/pizza shop. A coffee shop, perhaps. I doubt any botique/independent style retailer would survive very long.
  4. Pa. has an Atlantic seaboard? NCB got the shaft in the bank bailout, for sure. But the funds from the federal stimulus did help tremendously in dampening the blow by staving off the devastating public sector cuts which would have occurred around the same time. However, when those funds dried up and the Kasich administration then made massive cuts to state aid for the local government at the same time, it frustrated the recovery of our private sector due to the collateral damage. It makes the numbers look bad, but nothing compared to what the numbers would have looked like if the full tornado hit us all at once.

No one (except the most ignorant over-reactive fans) has ever denied that Bennett has talent. The problem is he is too "green" and I think there is a danger with rushing him or putting too much on his shoulder (I don't care how broad they are). Patience is the key here. We can't be that team which spends top 5 picks on a player and then gives up on them if they don't have the instant success of a select few. I am not as down on the pick as most. This year's rookie class has been probably as underwhelming as advertised. Some players have popped for a game here or there, but nobody is lighting the world on fire. I also have this feeling that Bennett, physically, still has some growing to do. Bradley Beal grew an inch this past summer and I can see the same thing happening with AB.

I like Andy off the bench. He is such a gnat to the other team if he comes in fresh when they are starting to get tired. If I was to do anything with the rotation, I might consider starting Jack at the 2 and cutting it down to a 3-guard rotation with Dion coming in halfway through the first quarter and then Jack starting the 2nd with Kyrie taking a seat. In theory, starting CJ is smart, but he has to be more consistent with his outside shot for that to work the way it is supposed to. TT is learning how to play with Bynum, as we've seen these past two games. I actually think that Bynum opens up the inside for TT more than Varejao would because Andy does not demand a double team. TT just needs to focus on finding that space on the other side of the rim from where Bynum is posting and then wait for the pass or put himself in position to grab the boards. Bynum is actually a very good passer out of the double-team, although the Cavs don't seem to understand how to help him out by flowing to the open spots when the defense crashes down on him.
  7. I actually had in mind some day-time shootings, seemingly random attempted/botched robberies, the apparent drug related shootout in Euclid, in addition to the incidents reported outside bars/clubs. It's almost like the type of spikes we see when the weather gets warmer.
  8. The ripple/spiral effect from public sector cuts and the NCB debacle is still very strong and will be for at least the next year or two. Still, I hate how the PD keeps posting these figures like they are separate snapshots and not part of a continuum.
  9. Seems like the metro area has had an inordinate amount of gunplay this past week

^City charters trump state law in matters of local self-governance in the event of a conflict between the two. If the charter is silent on an issue, then state law applies. Taking an extremely quick look at the charter, it does contain language contemplating that the general laws of the state shall apply to elections, unless otherwise provided..... and it does speak to the contingency that the mayor might be removed mid-term. It seems like state law would apply, specically RC 705.92...... but the application of Ch. 705 can be a bit tricky depending on the city's plan of government (I think Cincy uses the city manager plan, no?)

I'm cautiously optimistic about the thought that we've "turned the corner" on this season. But I've been really happy with the way they've played the past two games. Kyrie seems to have gotten his mojo back, which is essential to our success and what we want to do on the floor. The hustle we've seen recently from the entire team is something I was expecting when the season started. The Bulls and Nuggets are not elite teams, but they are two teams that definitely make you earn everything you get on them. I actually liked the rotation last night. It was good to see Bennett out there moving around without the ball and that three guard front of Kyrie, Dion, and Jack is play better while all out on the court together at the same time. It also seems like Bynum is realizing his career is not quite over yet and he is starting to play like he realizes how much more money he could make if he can stay on the court.

Yeah, I think it is a matter of poor peripheral vision, poor timing with WRs, and a consequential psychological downspiral from there. I also agree that his "touch" on short passes leaves a lot to be desired. But I'd bet if the NFL had something the equivalent of a 3-point contest for QBs, Weeden would do quite well. Doing it at gamespeed with 300 lb manimals looking to tear his head off is another story...
  13. Positives - more students living downtown, more foot traffic on Euclid, more customers for the local businesses, a relatiely unused corner of the intersection on the edge of PHS gets put to good use Negatives - we may lose a building that most of us barely knew existed or took much notice of prior to this proposal This is why I don't visit the demo thread..... the glass half empty attitude is overwhelming and unfortunately plays into a lot of the negative stereotypes people have of our City.
  14. I think this project is really exciting. I might not like the design of the other dorms, but I fully appreciate what they have done for CSU and that stretch of Euclid. This would give the campus another residential bookend and really add to some more life to the street. I didn't really make my point clear. The renderings don't show any entrances (for cars or people) around the garage, making the entire area a deadzone. Even garage entrances would be better than nothing. Nor did I. We are confusing the UO lingo of "pedestrian deadzone" and "pedestrian deathtrap". No use of the wall creates the deadzone. But a garage entrance creates a deathtrap, with vehicles plowing down pedestrians while entering/exiting the garage. I didn't understand the distinction either until the casino garage discussion..... and of course I'm being a smarta&& about the whole thing.
  15. Absolutely people will complain about the garage. There is nothing fronting the sidewalk from the alley to the surface lot on the other side. Lighting and garages entrances might help. At least there would be some kind of traffic around there. It is the entrance which creates the deathtrap... if I understand the concern correctly
  16. I like it better than the recently built dorms a few blocks down. Some type of cornice would be nice, but not absolutely necessary to win my approval. Of course, I imagine the design and placement of the garage are going to invoke some 'pedestrian deathtrap' comments on here
  17. I just realized we are playing MSU on turf in a dome. I think that plays to OSU's advantage... big time.
  18. ^^Pitt Brown has been a liability. I didn't realize how big of a loss Bryant would be, but should have been clued in by Urban's reaction. I wouldn't be surprised to see the true frosh, Von Bell, in there next game. He's playing on special teams (#11) so you know Urban likes him and, also, his redshirt is blown. The other option would be to switch Powell and Brown, so that Powell is the starting safety and Brown plays the star position, which he might benefit from given that his box would be a lot smaller to cover. The other issue is at LB, with Shazier being the only consistent performer. Grant is hurt, but he isn't all that good when healthy. Help is on the way..... next year with a nice coup in last year's class and this year's class. The kids just need to bulk up a bit. For this year, idk.... maybe they can try Jamal Marcus like they did Zack Boren last year. Marcus (#34) always seems to make plays when in, but is stuck behind Spence at rush-DE. The Eubanks kid who was in against Michigan didn't do that bad, but it is just so hard for me to accept we are so thin. OSU has always been a "next guy up" program at LB.

I don't think accuracy has so much to do with physical gifts. Weeden had some inaccurate throws, but he also had a few throws neither Campbell or Hoyer could make. The type of throws only somebody that can throw the ball 30 yards on a rope can make. Given his arm strength and the spin he can consistently put on the ball, I would be all in favor of letting his accuracy develop. But it's his feet which can't be fixed. He's never going to be able to overcome that physical obstacle to him being a good NFL QB
  20. There wouldn't be if the Browns ever put a consistent winner back on the field. That said, I endorse the move to lower the capacity for the reasons given by the Browns.
  21. No. It was much more simple than that. The patrol was always supposed to be tempporary and when it came down to keeping the EC patrol or fully staffing the Justice Center, EC got the axe. The County, just like all levels of government, was forced to make some tough decisions during the massive drop off in revenue following the 2008 financial crisis

And the Kasich administration was not the source of SB5. He got the majority of the bad publicity for it, but it really was a train which was propelled by the conservatives in the General Assembly. The administration did not get so involved until the re-draft, which made something which was both unreasonable and unworkable to just unreasonable.
  23. Hts121 replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Sports Talk
Assuming that there was some trade talk surrounding Josh Gordon... I don't care what the Browns were asking for him, whatever team turned down that offer (what-ev-er it was) is absolutely kicking themselves.
  24. County. The patrol had been cut in half about 5 years ago and then completely withdrawn in 2010. I have no idea why the City would cut it off. It's administration tried to lobby to keep it going.
  25. FWIW, I can believe the resident's claim about emergency response times, especially considering the very small geographic size of the City and the mutual aid contracts with Cleveland and CH. I don't know if that stat will hold up next time it is analyzed given that the Sheriff patrol was cut off and EC's own daily staffing was reduced and the closing of Huron's ER. But I have never really heard any issues with response times in the City. The problem is moreso that the police are so busy responding to emergencies that they don't have any time to be proactive..... no time to make their presence felt and engage in any form of order-maintenance policing. If you want to walk down the street with an open container, go for it. No one is going to stop you. If you are underage and want some alcohol, head on down to EC and you can easily find a place willing to sell to you. There is also no time for welfare checks, crime stings, warrant executions, etc.
