http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9858020/2013-nba-player-rankings-8 Of course there is always room for personal opinion. I was referrring to general consensus and, under that lens, there is absolutely no doubt that Kyrie is either in the Top 10 or right in that area. You'd be hard pressed to pick 10 players over him. LBJ and Durant, for sure. Maybe CP3 as well. Really any other players would be up for debate...... Harden, Westbrook, Rose, Melo, Love, Howard, Curry, Rondo, Randolph.... Wade and Kobe depending on health. That's 15, including Kyrie. I can't think of anyone else at the moment who could arguably be ranked ahead of him. Who are the 10 players you would clearly rank ahead of Kyrie to support the definitive statement that Kyrie is "not a top 10 player yet"? Keep in mind that if you are not going to take into account future potential (which would most likely place him in the top 5) you can't consider past performance - Dirk, Duncan, KG. We are talking the here and now..... NBA season 2013-14
  2. Is this the same strip club around which the shooting happened just a few weeks ago? Or is it a different club. ^18&over crowd is always trouble. That 16-20 range always seems to cause the most problems.

Fantastic set, as always. Good job highlighting the public art. Is that guy in a grey hoodie getting stuck up by the dude standing next to him?.... or is he taking a piss on that building? :)
  4. If we were to build something largely symbollic (like the gateway arch of space needle), I would like to see it straddle the intersection of Ontario and Superior right smack in the middle of public square. It would be a great skyline filler.
  5. "re-signed"..... sorry, pet-peeve
  6. Municipal courts only deal with minor crimes. No felonies. That said, there was a judge in Euclid Muni for quite some time who brought the hammer down on minor offenses and it didn't seem to have a positive effect. Some would argue it had the opposite effect. It's a complicated discussion, but I would venture to guess that the sentencing discretion of municipal court judges is probably not wide enough to have an effect one way or the other. And then you have to consider whether being overly strict produces good long-term returns. Consider that perhaps Cleveland's most violent gang (can't remember the name at the moment) started in the Cuyahoga County juvenile detention center.
  7. ^I never knew that until a few months ago when I was watching an excellent Showtime (?) documentary on the Eagles. There was some great video of her performing live. Awesome vocals. Extremely influential.

^^^Take a look at the last two GOP presidential primaries. For all the hype given to the Rick Santorums, the Michelle Bacmanns, and their ilk.... the GOP primaries are STILL decided by the upper middle-class suburban crowds who vote much more moderate than the local Tea Party gathering in Cornfield, Iowa. Given the field which was in the running for the nomination, McCain and Romney were about the most moderate, mainstream candidates you coulc have hope for. Now, if you told me that Kasich's ultimate aspirations were to be the next big thing on Fox News or AM radio, or even the next Jim DeMint or Sarah Palin, I might agree with you. But I think he has other plans.... big plans.
  9. ^I really don't want to retread that non-productive conversation, but if you care to look back, myself and, iirc, others disagreed with the way you framed the issue, not your ultimate point. Allow me to try to explain in a way you can understand. If I want to know if Bill's brother is a homesexual, I could ask Bill "is your brother gay?" or I could ask him "is your brother a f#g?" While I might be ultimately asking the same question (in the minds of many people, at least), the way I framed it is completely different.
  10. There's not enough people for their to be significant drug activity in the area. There is very little foot traffic, other then to and from the elementary school acccAnd I was attempting to be comical about the hookers at Euclid-Green. That was relatively short lived and was brought to an end.

^Your tag line is ignoring some of the most successful non-human civilizations on the planet, such as bee hives, ant colonies, schools of fish. Then there is wildlife herds and packs. Nature agrees with the idea of strength in numbers.

Uncle Drew is not a superstar? He's a concensus top 10 player, and generally thought of as one of if not the best players under 25, NBA GMs ranked him third (behind the overwhelming favorite, LBJ, and just slightly behind Durant) as the player they would select as the centerpiece of their franchise.
  13. I believe CO uses the FBI numbers, correct? There might not be a better source out there for us, but the reality is that the FBI largely depends on local authorities for their statistics, which can skew the numbers too low (due to sefl under-reporting) or too high (comparably at least, due to other communities under-reporting).

My range would probably be 38-49. Anything less than close to .500 ball would be a monumental disappointment and I honestly would be shocked if they jumped to 50 wins.
  15. ^I had seen that city-data breakdown and wasn't sure how much credence to give it, considering it has East Cleveland with a lower crime rate than CH and Euclid. I find that very hard to believe. Perhaps it is just distorted based on a variance in reported crime.

No poll, so I will go ahead and make my BOLD predictions: - Cavs make the playoffs in the 5-8 seed range - TT wins or is in serious contention for Most Improved Player - Kyrie starts the All-Star game for the East - Karasev doesn't come close to winning it, but finishes ahead of Bennett in ROY voting - Bennett struggles at times and there are some stretches in the season in which he doesn't get any PT - Bynum plays about 60 games (less than 30 mins/gm) and Andy gets serious consideration for 6th Man of the Year - Dion's PPG don't improve much, but his efficiency goes through the roof
  17. ^I think there are several buildings on that lot.
  18. Every time there is a crime in CH, it is treated as a new phenomenon. That is no new phenomenon in itself. CH has always (as far as I can remember) had its rough spots and its been on its 'downward spiral' as long as this Country has been in the proverbial 'handbasket to Hell.' That said, C17 is right that the City has been plagued with these issues for the past month or so and the City needs to step it up. I think some comfort can be taken in that CH a more than a bit different than it's neighbor, South Euclid, which really has seen a spike compared to just two decades ago. In a few more decades, I'd expect the wave that has hit SE, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Euclid, etc. to extend out to Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Wickliffe, and anywhere else that has mostly housing which was originally designed post-war as middle-class starter homes. Not many young, successful couples are looking to buy a 1,100 sf 1 1/2 story aluminum sided house. What we can hope is that the reverse trend picks up in the City and parts of the inner-ring which have much more 'timeless' neighborhoods and housing stock.
  19. What benefit whatsoever, to either CC or its employees, would any interaction with that neighborhood have been? Huh? I wasn't suggesting there would be a benefit. I was simply surmising that there was no interaction. There really is no neighborhood. It is in an odd stretch between 152nd and 185th, with nothing immediately adjacent but more industrial buildings. Assuming there was something worthwhile at Euclid-Green (besides the hookers, of course), you'd still have a bit of a walk to get there.
  20. ^^Yes. The article listed it as being at E173rd and Euclid. It is actually on Euclid between Arabella and London. Maybe 173rd is the equivalent of one of those streets, but it is not marked.
  21. Compared to what? Other suburbs? The entire metro? The state?
  22. ^That's making a lot of presumptions which I don't feel are warranted. Having the CCF in that bulidnig was doing much for the neighborhood. It wasn't hurting the neighborhood, but it had 0 interaction. It is a gated fortress. The Clinic was occupying it probably for the cheap rent and I suspect the clinic will still use it. Isn't that where the clinic does its laundry?

Don't take the bait. Medicaid expansion is low-hanging fruit to trick people into thinking he has an independent streak. All of that goes out the window when he has an unaccountable second term and a gerrymandered legislative branch with which to conspire as he angles towards the right to appeal to the wingnuts he's going to need to sway as he makes an unsuccessful bid for the White House. That's where I differ in my opinion on Kasich. I think he is smart enough to know that 'appealing to the wingnuts' is not going to get him re-elected to the state house, and if history tells us anything it is that if a GOPer can't win Ohio he can't win the White House. It has never happened before in our entire electoral history. Kasich was born and raised in a liberal area. He's a fiscal conservative for sure, but his ability to empathize softens his social policies to a point that he'll never be a darling of the 'wingnuts.' Outside of fiscal policy, he is quite moderate. In fact, he has shown the ability and willingness to tell the wingnuts to go kick rocks when their desires get in the way of his agenda. The medicaid expansion is hardly the only time he has ignored the wishes of the Tea Party types. He also, for instance, continued LGB benefits for state employees.... only modifying Strickland's policy to remove the "T", something I might've done myself.

Season opener tonight in case anybody cares. You'd barely know it listening to the talk around town....
  25. Your response doesn't make much sense to me...... what expense do you expect to cause? The police know the suspect's race. They have it in the police report. They are not going to go chasing or apprehending a suspect who can't possibly match the description. They MAY, however, try to find the kid you called about and ask him where he got his shirt. I doubt it, but it's possible. The police will always tell you that they prefer calls that don't materialize into leads as opposed to no calls. If you really want to dig a deeper whole of irrelevancy..... yes, it would be more productive than you calling the police about every "black male, medium height, medium build, dark hair, brown eyes" you see walking around Cleveland Heights. FWIW, the Cleveland.bomb posters are similarly outraged..... -So Cleveland Hts, how's that diversity working out for you now? -It's funny that back in the day when the "less desireables" were confined to one area, that's where the crime and problems stayed. -Brought to you courtesy of section 8. Straight from the projects, to a neighborhood near you. Cleveland Hts is doomed to be the toilet that is East Cleveland. -I see you PC people are reporting. You can give the color of the gun, the color of the clothes they were wearing & the color of the car they were driving, BUT you can't say what their skin color was? Gee..... Let me guess their ethnic background/race......Jewish? ..nope!....Asian....nope! Caucasian...nope!! Indian.....nope!!.... Irish....nope!!.... Eskimos....nope!!! My common sense tells me,,,,, OF COURSE THEY'RE BLACK!!! it's Cleveland Heights & it's an armed robbery. I guess common sense isn't so common for you liberals.
