Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^^That was always the target year for him to join the Cavs. ^^I'm not so high on him. I don't expect him to be a very good NBA player. Back of the rotation, if anything, would be my guess.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Yeah. No real reason to be concerned. They went through much worse ruts the past two seasons. As for JR, that's the price you pay for him and the reason he never developed into more than he is. He always had all of the talent and ability to be an all-star, but never reached that level. He runs extremely hot and cold in all aspects of his game and life. What you hope is that he is hot at the right time. As for his effort, it will be there when it counts.

Cleveland: Population Trends
I have three kids and we are contemplating buying a new house. Right now, we live in a vey inner-ringish type neighborhood. The houses are not on top of each other, but they are close enough for my older children to easily walk up and down the block to their friends' homes. I personally have always wanted a bit more land (*ducks*), yet I honestly think the kids would hate that kind of set up.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
It wasn't a play you can be 'convinced' on either way. The video evidence was such that however it was called on the field, it likely would have stayed. I hate that such a great game is being marred by complaints about the officiating. I would like to see a full game audit on missed calls before I even entertain that thought. Football is a game of inches. Inches are what separates a turnover on downs from a first down. It is what separates a PI call from a no call. You always notice the other team getting away with things. I thought, for instance, Michigan's O-linemen and DBs were getting away with holding a good part of the game.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
So my best friend's cousin (actually, his cousin's son) was violently stabbed to death in Mentor (or at least that area) last week right before Thanksgiving. No coverage of this tragedy that I've seen on any of the local websites. I wonder how often this type of suburban crime is not reported and why.

The parity in the NBA is at a low point. There are for teams -- Cavs, GSW, LAC, SAS -- and then everyone else

Samuel is our best weapon. We need him to have a big game.

Urban's teams have a way of showing up for these big time match ups which are supposed to be close and finding a way to blow the doors off their opponent. I could see that happening.

^Your argument is probably better if you are also moving out without delay. I doubt you can choose to stay for the remainder of your lease AND justifiably not pay the rent. Even with moving out, you are likely to end up in housing court on the question you ask.

USA Soccer: Men's National Team
Sheesh. They might not make it. That would suck and put a damper on the momentum the sport has been building in this country.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
If Washington wins out and is the Pac12 champ, I can't see the Buckeyes AND the winner of PSU/Wisconsin (assuming that is the B10 championship matchup) both getting in. In that scenario it would likely be Alabama, OSU or Big10 champ, Washington, and ACC champ (assuming that would be a one loss Louisville or Clemson)

^After thinking about it, I agree. The committee has never let a 2 loss team into the playoffs.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
If I understand this correctly, Michigan's loss may actually screw us. If PSU wins out and Michigan's only loss was to us, then there would be a three way tie in which PSU had lost to Michigan, Michigan had lost to us and we had lost to PSU. Overall record would be the tie breaker to play for the B10 championship. But in a two way tie, head to head is the tie breaker.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
It's a silly caricature of American Indians. It utilizes stereotypical physical features of that race to create what is supposed to be a comical image. Same purposes as a caricature of a black person with a huge nose and lips. I don't know of any other purpose. What is 'racist' about the image you posted? I might not be following
-
Cleveland Guardians Discussion
That doesn't answer the question. It dodges it completely. Show me a caricature which is racist and tell me why it is racist. Hell, let's just leave "racist" out of it (I agree that term might not be best used here). Show me an "offensive" caricature and explain why it is offensive. An Oriole is a bird, btw. Let's try to keep it confined to actual humans. No animals or mythical creatures. I personally think when a caricature makes fun of (usually by overemphasis on) physical features often associated with a particular race, regardless if the intent is to say one race is superior to another, then whatever you want to call it, someone can rightfully be offended. Asians with squinty eyes and silly grins, jews with crooked noses, blacks with wide noses and big lips, Native Americans with red skin and long noses.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
No one wants to take a stab at this? I'm neither Native American nor easily offended. But I do have the ability to empathize with those people who are offended by something, even when I'm not. Caricatures are not inherently racist or offensive. If they were, political satire cartoons would be a dead art. A caricature of an individual is one thing. A caricature of entire race is another, especially when it incorporates the stereotypes (red skin, big nose, etc).

JR should wear that shirt of him shirtless

I don't think anyone says it is hateful. The portrayals of Native Americans in 1950s westerns was not hateful either.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I really would like someone who thinks Chief Wahoo is not racist to show me a caricature which would be racist. Anyone? Bueller?
-
Cleveland Guardians Discussion
^It is a caricature of an entire race which draws largely from stereotypes of that race. Go ahead and argue that Native Americans aren't offended generally (although you can't argue that a significant number of them are), but I would think before suggesting that the symbol is not racist. That's just silly. If it's not racist, then what caricature WOULD be racist? seriously. Answer that one. Back on to the false equivalency angle, check this out from Notre Dame.... “We have not gotten information from any group that represents Irish or (anyone of) Irish ancestry ... that they believe that image is hostile and/or abusive,” Charlotte Westerhaus, NCAA vice president for diversity and inclusion, says What makes the Fighting Irish different? Why do we cringe at old ads for Aunt Jemima pancakes but smile at the Lucky Charms leprechaun? Many would say — like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart defined pornography — an offensive nickname is hard to define, but “I know it when I see it.” http://scholastic.nd.edu/issues/53167-is-fighting-irish-offensive/ I think that is very accurate. The article goes on and dives into several of the arguments you see here, some of which I agree with and others I do not, but the ultimate conclusion is, as the author states, "spot on". That conclusion is the Fighting Irish logo is a "prideful self-identifier"

^^Chief Wahoo is not a behavior. Nobody is calling on you to stop wearing the logo, just like Eddie Robinson was free to show up at the Indians game wearing the logo from 1948.
-
Cleveland Guardians Discussion
^One is a blatantly false equivalency, the others are not. Go ahead and make the comparison, but be prepared for people to tell you why it doesn't advance your position, especially the Fighting Irish logo which is a caricature of a mythical creature that hoards pots of gold at the end of rainbows.

World Series 2016
I don't know that you can say that Milwaukee and Cincy are comparable markets. Both cities only have two major sport franchises. When the Browns were gone, the Indians attendance went up. Certainly that had a lot to do with the success of the team, new ballpark, etc, but also the corporate ticket buys were a factor. Pittsburgh experienced a rise in attendance when its new park was built, but then lagged back down close to our levels until the team got good. I think their pattern of attendance over the past five years, rising steadily from 1.6m to 2.4m is within our reach now that the team has re-energized the fan base. Indians fans may finally have gotten over the year after year soap opera of developing great talent, watching it rise to stardom, and then signing as a free agent for $1gazillion dollars with some major market team (or trading that talent away before the year before becoming a free agent). I really believe that caused a lot of this recent disinterest. It certainly did for me.
