  1. Yeah..... unfortunately the disparity in DIII teams can be just as great or greater than among the 100+ DI teams. I wouldn't expect this to be much of a competitive game, and probably would not have been so even in the Wetzel glory days from a few years back.
  2. The area of Collinwood north of the Shoreway is a perfect example of a 'now or never' neighborhood IMO. It hasn't slipped beyond the point of return to previous prosperity without a complete rebuild (a point which I, sadly, think Slavic Village has reached in contrast), but it came damn close. The true "North Collinwood" neighborhood has remained strong and the Arts District on the south end is helping to close the gap. I have no illusions that it will ever be a vibrant place where young professionals with families will look to buy..... but it never was that either.

Watch out Al Pacino!! I don't know if the speech is the best part of that video. Check out the adrenaline running through the dude two to the left. He is AMP'ED for a flag football game.
  4. The target audience for arcades is definitely younger than when Fun&Games was nearly a second home to me....

Tyler Village? http://www.tylervillage.com/ Maybe contact the Midtown folks? http://www.midtowncleveland.org/
  6. Does Weston even "own" those lots? My undestanding is that the company held an "option" on them. I'm not sure I'm in favor of a tax targeting surface lots and it seems like nothing more than a UO pipedream anyways. But what I think would could gain some traction in Council and what I would like to see the City do is ramp up enforcement (i.e. the issuance of notices and fines) for poorly maintained properties. If a building looked as bad as half of the surface lots, it would get fined. I also like the idea that any NEW lot must have a permeable surface. It helps lower other costs (as KJP pointed out) and it makes the cost-benefit analysis a bit more difficult for those wishing to own/operate the lots.

Camp opens next week. A quick injury status update: -Bennett is full go, 100%. He has been playing 5-on-5 and is approaching his 'ideal' playing weight (248, so he says) -Andy is about 70%. The biggest issue for him is getting back his conditioning. The injury set him back, as well as the new wife and honeymoon I'm sure. -Bynum is starting to run on a treadmill. The Cavs are not providing a timetable (probably a smart move). It looks as if a December return to the court (limited or not) would be the most optimistic prediction. -Kyrie is supposedly in the best shape of his career, which will hopefully help him withstand the grind of an NBA season for once.
  8. Who wouldn't want to live in an apartment building with Karl's on the ground floor.... Cuyahoga County council approves sale of three buildings for $3.4 million CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As part of an ongoing process to consolidate its offices, Cuyahoga County Council on Tuesday unanimously approved selling a trio of buildings in downtown Cleveland to a private developer. Weston Inc. is considering converting one of the buildings -- the Marion Building in the Warehouse District at 1276 W. 3rd St.-- into apartments, company CEO T.J. Asher told The Plain Dealer last month. http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2013/09/cuyahoga_county_council_approves_sale_of_three_buildings_for_34_million.html#incart_river_default The other two buildings are the Superior Auto Title Building at 1261 Superior Ave. and the Hamilton Garage at 1801 St. Clair Ave. Weston seems to be really ramping up its efforts downtown.
  9. I don't think it can be argued that some of those buildings have to go. Ideally, the entire triange would be leveled and developers could work with a clean slate. That land could be a gold mine if that was done given its proximity to the Coventry strip, LI, UC, Cumberland Park, and the Rec Center. But I fear this is going to end up looking like Hough, with just scattered residences. I assume there are many homeowners who like their house just fine and won't willingly just let it be demolished. I guess if I was in charge here, I would require nothing but contiguous demos. No taking down one house and then another 2 doors down and then another 4 doors down.

He'll be a "household name" all right: http://www.publicofficial14.com/ Don't be shy about posting claims which earned the prestigous "pants on fire" rating from politifact http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2013/apr/30/republican-governors-association/republican-governors-association-portrays-ed-fitzg/ The following is from the website ERocc 'shared' with us. I've added a bit of clarification in bold for those who are interested in a more complete account.... Following that call (actually, a month later), Bill Neiheiser made a sizeable ($250) contribution to Public Official 14’s political campaign and soon after (two months later) got (i.e. was approved by a vote of City council) the government contract to manage (i.e. lease and operate at a monthly fee to the City.... not to mention the $2million in improvements the company completed to) the local ice rink. Sound like a coincidence to you?
  11. Good luck with that
  12. My neighbors and I take turns mowing the foreclosed house on our street. The City seemed content with letting the weeds get above waist high, so we took it upon ourselves.
  13. As much as you might like to, what shred of evidence (not inferences, innuendoes, and speculation) is there to go on? Your self-proclaimed expertise in the "thug mentality" is not admissible, FYI.
  14. I'm more in favor of this as a gimmick ride between two or three select points than as more of a comprehensive transportation system. Still very skeptical of the aesthetics. Even if you haven't hooked me as of yet, I applaud the creativity and effort, Skylift.
  15. Sad but probably necessary. I just wonder what the target is for "re-development." It's not as if that area is in high-demand, particularly the stretch of Superior where the demos will happen if I understand correctly. The only part of the Superior triange which hold much value IMO are the properties along Mayfield and maybe the southern edge of Coventry before reaching Mayfield.
  16. You don't have to go to cleveland.com to read endless discussion about the attendance and little about the WC race. Just hang right here on UO ;)

I had forgot most of this, but spent an hour last night with this quiz refamiliarizing myself. I can get them all now.... at least until I forget them again next week.
  18. Yes, they don't have to worry about winning the Division and can coast..... right into a one-game playoff, which gives them the incentive to keep trying to play for the Division crown and not ease up. Nobody wants their season to come down to one game. Baseball's two biggest rivals—and its two best teams over the last 15 years—play in the same division yet have not had a meaningful pennant race between them since the advent of the eight-team playoff. Since Selig opened Pandora's box by allowing second-place teams into the postseason, co-division leaders across baseball have been content to split the prize, rest their stars and walk hand in hand into the post-season together. Insert second Wild Card: Both teams will now have to get off their rump and try to win the division. Otherwise, they will be forced to play a "little sister of the poor" second-place team in a one-game playoff. One-game playoffs are baseball's equivalent of a coin flip. One error, one bad pitcher, one rogue umpire, and it's lights out. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/945122-mlb-will-a-second-wild-card-re-ignite-the-yankees-red-sox-rivalry
  19. No they can't. You missed the point. In the old system, if you won the wild card you earned a spot in a 7 game series. Now, the WC teams have to play a one game playoff to get to that series. It gives that much more emphasis to winning the Division. You could have the second best record in the entire league and still have to play your way in through a one game series if the team with the best record is in your Division.

35th rated with a 72.6 QB rating...... four points better than Hoyer's was today. Like I said, they'll probably give Hoyer a few games (as long as he doesn't bomb against Cincy). But I think you're letting your well documented hate for Weeden cloud your analysis more than a bit on the difference between what the two have shown. Weeden had several games last year (both Cincy games, notably) which were much stronger QB performances than what Hoyer did today

^^You could just as easily say that we would be 2-1 (or 3-0) if Gordon played in the first two games. Like I have been saying, Gordon being out on the field changes the game for our offense. You probably heard the announcers mention a half dozen times how the downfield threat he brings opens up the underneath for everybody else. That's why I had been refraining from passing judgment on the Chud/Turner offense. I would assume that Hoyer is going to get the start next week, regardless of whether Weeden is healthy enough to play. But I've been through too many flirtations with the Luke McCowns and Charlie Fryes of the world to get on the Hoyer bandwagon just yet. He made some great plays, but he also had some very questionable throws and I'm not sure he has the arm strength to put enough zip on the ball when it needs some extra pep. I am loving this defense. They needed to tighten up the containment on the 3rd down QB scrambles, but the rest of their play seems very disciplined. Desmond Bryant is earning that big paycheck. I hope that Sheard is not seriously hurt. That rotation with him, Kruger, and Mingo is really keeping the pressure on.
  22. Fascinating. Not all that surprising, but fascinating nonetheless. I'd suspect it is a bit misleading in certain respects, such as the heavy blue of the Dakotas which is probably more the result of the energy boom in that area than some other conscious effort to promote social mobility
  23. I thought I heard that the current wildcard system was put into place, in part, to prevent the Yankees and Red Sox from just putting it in cruise control down the stretch once it was clear that those two had the Divisional title and WC spot locked up. With the current system, no team can just sit back and be complacent with earning a WC birth.
  24. EDIT: Nevermind. Found my answer - http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2977.2100.html ^From the article... The museum's current land, just off Euclid and Stearns Road, might be more valuable for another use. An unidentified developer is looking at the site, owned by neighborhood nonprofit University Circle Inc., for a mixed-use project that would include housing. Was this that idea for a residential high-rise that was floated a few months back (perhaps lost in the 2013 UO Crash

There are plenty of possible wins. We certainly could win tomorrow. Minnesota is anything but dominant. We'll actually probably be the favorite when Jax comes to town. They are on another level of bad. We play the Steelers twice and they've looked worse than us. The Lion and Bills both play here. The Bills have a rookie QB and the Lions don't play well on the road. We play the Bengals twice and usually play them tight. The Chiefs are hot right now, but aren't that much different than the 2-14 team from last season. The Bears play at CBS too and Cutler is prone to more than a few meltdowns each season. As for the rest of the games, "any given Sunday" applies.
