I was planning on just taking my Trevin Wade jersey and using some duct tape and a sharpy to change the name on the back :-P
  2. While, like most fans, I immensely enjoyed watching the loaded offense of the 90's and loved being part of the packed house at Jacobs' field (two factors I would add to the 'perfect storm' list above), I fall into the category of "not a baseball fan".... even though I am a HUGE sports guy. The reason I know that it is not just the Indians is that I NEVER watch baseball on TV, with the exception of flipping to the Indians games every now and then. I just can't do it. I don't watch the World Series. I don't watch the All-Star game. Nothing. On the other hand, the Jaguars could be playing the Raiders on TV and I will watch from beginning to end. Same goes for NBA games.
  3. There may be service lines under that dirt which would have made a basement pretty much useless. Just a guess....
  4. ^From the article.... But Dan Tierney, spokesperson for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, said that when sentencing offenders, one of the factors judges have to consider by law is “whether the offender was motivated by prejudice based on race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.” Prosecutors could argue that because a person targeted a member of the LGBT community, the convicted deserves a harsher sentence.
  5. ^what is? the Ohio law not being specific to sexual orientation? I would agree with that being BS..... but my preliminary thoughts (I haven't thought much about it) is to agree with the federal standard that hate crimes generally shouldn't be applicalbe to minors.
  6. I had hinted at this on the previous page..... Teen charged in Cleveland LGBT bar assault will likely not face hate crime CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The 16-year-old boy arrested Tuesday on robbery charges stemming from the Labor Day weekend attack of a man outside a Cleveland LGBT friendly bar will likely not face hate crime charges. The reason? Ohio law does not specify that a crime against someone based on sexual orientation is a hate crime. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/09/teen_charged_in_cleveland_lgbt.html

McGahee is signed. 1 year deal. I looked up his stats and he was actually doing quite well in Denver last season before he got hurt. A little long in the tooth, but maybe he can provide some vocal veteran leadership to an offense sorely lacking anything resembling it (no offense to Joe Thomas, but he is more of a lead by example kind of guy and his 'lead' this year has been well below his previous All Pro level)
  9. I think the intersection of Superior and E6th (captured in the 3rd pic above) might be favorite in the entire city. Great views in all four directions.

If the Bengals could've traded Kijana Carter in his second season for a future first, how would've that looked in hindsight? Obviously Richardson isn't a bust of a player or Indy wouldn't have given up a first round pick for him. If there's little to no deep passing threat, a crappy O line, and an immobile QB, can Richardson really be blamed? I'm shocked at how quickly people have changed their tune on Richardson. I don't think anything is obvious about Trent at this point. I do think that Indy was desperate, though. Their fans will be disappointed with anything short of the playoffs and losing Ballard was a big downer for them. They don't make this trade if Ballard doesn't get hurt. The Browns, albeit not the current regime (and that played a HUGE factor) drafted Richardson at #3 because they viewed him as a potential HOF player. Barry Sanders thrived without a passing game and ran behind a crappy O-line. The Vikings currently have one of the worst passing games in the league and Peterson still is near the top of the league in rushing every year he is healthy. Great running backs find a way to get the yards Trent wasn't. That said, having a great running back doesn't get you very far (see Sanders and Peterson, who I consider the best two I have seen). A change of scenery might help, as it did with other highly drafted running backs such as Marshall Faulk (who initially failed to live up to his potential with Indy) and Cedric Benson (who did much better with Cincy than he did with Chicago). As for a change of tune on Richardson, it was coming on fast. Check out my post after last week's game. I was mildly disappointed, as I think most fans were, with his performance last year. But we largely wrote that off to injuries. Then he was injured for the entire preseason this year and, when he did come back for the games, he didn't do anything to light the world on fire. The line's run blocking wasn't great, but it was nowhere near horrendous (like their pass protection has been). The run blocking was quite good last year and he still only had two runs over 20 yards. This year, Trent was missing wide open cut-back lanes and showing no burst through the line to even get to the second level. Part of me thinks that Banner is a sneaky sh!t who approached an injured (more than we thought) Trent during the preseason and told him if he could just play in the first couple games, he would get him out of here and into a run-first system like Indy's.
  11. I think you are assuming that I'm advocating for an elimination of squad car patrols. I'm not. NYC didn't eliminate car patrols. And it's not like the officers walking the beat would walk from the station. They would still have a squad car very nearby if need be. They can also use mobile command centers. Bottom line, is it is not an either/or proposition. At present, the criminals in Cleveland largely just have to be on the lookout for a squad car, which sticks out like a sore thumb in too many neighborhoods.... even the 'unmarked' cars. Knowing a cop could be strolling around the corner at any given moment or lurking somewhere in the shadows would have a dettering effect I would think if the patrols were implemented and used correctly. Here's a good analysis on the issue from the DOJ - http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/html/dispatch/February_2009/foot_patrol.htm

  13. To be clear, I am not talking about a city-wide implementation, but rather select denser neighborhoods. For a neighborhood like Central, it would be exceedingly difficult to implement. For neighborhoods like Tremont, OC, DS, Cuddel, etc., not so much. There may be union restrictions, but it is an issue which would by default be a management right and, for that reason, the City would have much greater leverage in negotiating the issue when the current contract expires.

I'm not so sure that Brown is any better than Obi. And they probably preferred McGahee at a vet minimum. One aspect of this trade that I haven't heard discussed much, but I think was a motivating factor for Banner, is that it creates more salary cap space heading into next off-season. Trent got a large chunk of his first contract as a signing bonus, but his base salary (which affects the cap) was set to increase each year of the four year deal.

    ^I doubt it.

2 firsts, 1 second, 2 thirds, and two fourths, right? I'll will be all the way out at Bay Village for a U8 game starting at 1pm, so a win for me as well.... at least a more exciting game to take in. When I first saw the travel schedule, I freaked out and cursed the league for prioritizing church folk over football fans..... but now all those 1pm Sunday start times don't seem so bad. Nor do the tourneys in Madison and Lodi (if you're heading to either of those we can not watch the Browns game together ;))

They'd have to hold the NFL equivalent of a fire sale to get down to Jacksonville's level.

Lanci was intriguing and then bewildering. He perked my ears up several times, but probably made me shake my head more. But what really killed him as a candidate for me (if I actually had a vote in this thing) was what seemed to be a plan to rely heavily on the City's clergy, as if that is the key group to work closely with to take on the role of some magical silver bullet which will propel the City forward. He didn't mention race, but it was clear he meant the black clergy. Personally, I don't want a Mayor that is going to pander to that group. Too many wolves in sheep's clothing.
  19. I didn't mean to derail this thread with the mailman analogy. Of course not EVERYONE knows their mailman. Many don't. The point was that cops walking the beat (and not simply sitting in their cars) IN AN URBAN NEIGHBORHOOD allows them to interact with business owners and residents. It allows them to form relationships and trust, which are both sorely lacking between the CPD and the local residents. This, not the stop and frisk policy, was the most effective compenent/strategy in the NYC order maintenance policing approach IMNSHO.

Kiper was just on the Really Big Show. He labeled the trade a win-win for both teams. One point he made in favor of the Browns is that, in the 35 years he has been covering the draft, he would not have once taken a RB in the 1st round. As crazy as it sounds, the 1st round pick ALONE was great value for Trent. Consider this... the Bills got a 4th round pick for Marshawn Lynch at about the same point in the season a few years back. Lynch was a two-time 1,000yd+ rusher, had made a pro-bowl, and was in his prime at the time he was traded.

Now Lewis getting hurt reaaaaally sucks. Is Obi really going to be our primary back? Rainey? What is Montario's status? This is a head spinner Two thoughts on the trade.... It is exceedingly rare that teams trade a 1st round pick, especially in a loaded draft. The exception being using future firsts to move up in the first It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Trent is hurt again. In fact, it wouldn't shock me if the trade is voided.

  23. I believe it was only a few dollars when they had a guy out there collecting and something in that same ballpark with the automatic pay station. Re the zoning change, I would welcome it..... but I'm not so sure whether it could be applied retroactively to people who bought properties on Mayfield prior to the change.
