  1. ^Agreed. But we also need a different strategy. Narrow down the patrols and get some 'boots on the ground' in the neighborhoods, particularly the business districts. What I mean is the reinstitution of foot patrols, not merely sitting in the squad car on a corner. Make an environment where people know their local patrols like they know their mail carriers.

20/20 hindsight is a beautiful thing. I actually think the Heckert drafts set up this new regime nicely moving forward. There was next to no talent on this roster when Heckert took over. I can't argue about the Weeden pick at the moment, but Phil Taylor was well worth a late 1st rounder. He is playing like a beast this year and will easily make the pro-bowl if he keeps it up. NT might not be a 'sexy' position to the average football fan, but it is the lynchpin of a 3-4 defense. TJ Ward "stinks"? He made si.com's All-Pro team last year and is generally highly regarded as a very solid (at worst) SS around the league. He's not a "center-fielder", but he is not supposed to be at that position either. That is Gipson's job as a FS. Ward is more of a 5th LB who can provide support in against both the run and the pass. His only issue is staying healthy.

I think it was just a way of giving the middle finger to the Tribe. Nothing distracts Cleveland from a Tribe playoff run like naming your 3rd stringer the starter. They want to see what they have in Hoyer and this might be the only chance. Given the way their O-Line has pass protected the first two games, they need a QB who can move around in the pocket. In his limited time on Sunday, Campbell looked just as slow as Weeden.
  4. ^Or, as hard as it might be for some to understand, there is no apparent "racial aspect" to the attack. The constantly played 'white victimization' card really just distracts from the actual issue here, which perhaps some would prefer to ignore. The police have arrested one of the teens allegedly involved in the assault, btw
  5. I think the "parking shortage" concern is a bit overblown for LI. We don't have a parking shortage in LI. We have a "free parking" shortage in LI. The lot I pay to park in down by the RR tracks is never even remotely close to full, even on the weekends. I assume this will be a pay-to-park lot. I think this fear is partly a result of a defeatist attitude. Vibrant cities/nabes don't worry about this because the potential profit from an actual development outweighs the profit for parking...... unless we are talking about the Sunset Strip in LA. I would hope that LI has enough going for it that it wouldn't make sense to just sit back and collect parking fees on such a prime parcel, notwithstanding low maintenance costs.

If you watch that play closely, Ngata pushes Cousins flat on his arse WHILE he is locked onto Mack. That's how to play NT. Occupy blockers are make a mess of things Every time I see Ngata play, I think of a chuckling (under his breath) Ozzie Newsome telling Phil Savage something like "yeah, I can't do much better than a 6th rounder"

What a waste of a playoff caliber D. Good to see Mingo flash I'm not sure I've ever seen a player like Little in the NFL. As a WR, he does everything exceptional.... except catch the ball. It would be like a LB with a real nose for the ball and the speed to get there, but can't tackle to save his life Seriously, what happened to our OL. It seemed as if they settled down a bit in the second half and offered some better pass blocking, but it is seemingly far from the elite unit it looks like on paper. JT did not come to play this season. He's the leader and needs to step his game up big time The main issue continues to be an inability to create separation on passing routes beyond 10 yards before the pressure collapsing the pocket. I'm hoping that Gordon's return next week fixes that issue to some degree. At least it will force teams to take their #1cb off Little. We'll see Anybody else worried that Jim Brown's initial analysis of Richardson is closer to the truth than we'd like to admit? He missed more than one cut back lane that would've netted him a huge gain.
  12. ^They could beat any team in the nation. But I think their front seven on defense is too 'green' for them to survive an SEC-type schedule undefeated. That said, while the front seven is young and inexperienced, it is incredibly talented.... probably as talented as it has been in a long time. It will help when their best all-around d-lineman, Cincy's own Adolphus Washington, gets back on the field. Unfortunately, while all those guys will be seasoned next year, we will have to replace 4 starters on the O-line. I'll tell you this - I am glad we are not scheduled to play Cal when their true freshman QB (Groff) is an upperclassmen. That kid is gonna be special. Speaking of special, two true freshmen of our own, RB Wilson and DL Bosa, are really flashing some enormous potential in their young careers. The B10 did no favors to OSU's computer points yesterday. An awful showing. Michigan nearly loses to Akron.... probably should have lost that game, in fact. Penn State gets knocked off by UCF. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Nebraska lost in their own PAC10 matchups. Nebraska got pushed around by UCLA in Lincoln. Illinois got handled by Washington. To be fair, UCLA and Washington are two up and coming teams. Wisconsin lost to ASU in one of the weirdest endings I have seen in a long time, with the clock running out after intentional downing the ball between the hashes to set up a field goal. Some will say they got robbed by the refs. Many thought that a win over Wisconsin was one of our two best chances to stack up some computer points.

  14. http://obits.cleveland.com/obituaries/cleveland/obituary.aspx?pid=166924600 I didn't want to start a new thread and couldn't think of anywhere better to put this considering Marty might have been the best known and most liked tiny coffee shop operator in the entire City. His was the one in the basement of the Old County Courthouse on Lakeside. As many years as I've known him, I didn't know half of the accomplishments listed in his obit. RIP, Marty. A true Clevelander.

^But not put together by some local joe simply trying to make excuses. Weeden gets his fair share of the blame, but I appreciate the analysis because it goes beyond an elementary understanding of how interceptions happen

For those interested in a long, but very good, analysis.... Every week, after the coaches film is released by the NFL, we will take a look at a particular subject in detail. This week, we put Brandon Weeden’s interceptions under closer examination http://thebiglead.com/2013/09/12/film-study-breaking-down-brandon-weedens-three-first-half-interceptions-against-miami/

I just saw the latest Star Trek and really liked it. The first one in the reboot was outstanding and incredibly inventive in the way it completely changed the timeline and threw off every single Treker/Trekie who had his/her Star Trek encyclopedia ready for fact-checking. But the plot of the first one left a little to be desired. It was still good. But the second one (Into Darkness) is great. I really like how they are able to modify the two main characters (Kirk and Spock) based on life-altering events which changed the timeline in this reboot of the series. Speaking of Star Trek, I was talking with someone about which were the best movies. For me, the Journey Home (IV), the Undiscovered Country (VI), First Contact (VIII), and Into Darkness (XII) are outstanding. The Wrath of Khan (II), the Search for Spock (III), Nemesis (X), and Star Trek (XI) are quality movies. Generations (VII) and Insurrection (IX) are somewhat watchable. The Motion Picture (I) and The Final Frontier (V) are both awful. So basically, I guess.... if you want to watch a movie from the franchise, a general rule of thumb is to stick with the even numbers. I didn't mention that on purpose. :) "No Way Out" tops it but not by much and Boondock Saints's is at about the same level. Agreed on No Way Out. In some ways it is more of a twist than Usual Suspects. At least in Usual Suspects, you are looking for the twist. Disagree on Boondock Saints. That ending was corny. And there is no way that not one of the three were shot
  18. Well smack my face and call me Sally!...... what E Rocc said ^ Also keep in mind that the article headline might be a little misleading. "Calls" should actually be "responses" - i.e. the number of times the police actually were forced to respond to the scene...... which may be significant considering the complaint of the lack of response prior to the assault a few weeks back. As much as I hate speculation, might this be somewhat of a 'never cry wolf' thing? Or perhaps some members of the 'gold unit' having some distasteful fun with the bar in retaliation for those accusations?
  19. ^The website darkhelmet.com is also reporting that one of those two is The Donald's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate

^For those that don't read your post first ;) I had forgot all about that Gladiator. Now I have to try and find a copy. "Don't give me this bullsh!t about Murphy's Law. If I run into Murphy, I'm gonna kick him right in the balls. - Robert Loggia's character Pappy Jack The thing I love about Loggia is that every character he ever plays seems to, at some point in the movie, scream out "ALRIGHHHHHT!!!" in his distinctively raspy voice
  21. Not only that.... the Browns play on Sundays when most people are not working. Sunday afternoon Tribe games this summer had terrible attendance. Perhaps.... but I bet if the Indians played 8 home games the entire season and each one was on a Sunday afternoon, they would easily sell-out
  22. ^^"Sexual assault" is a rather broad term. It could be as simple as an unwanted smack on the butt or snapping the back of a bra. Or it could be as serious as anything up to and including rape. For the more minor issues, it is largely up to the parents of the alleged victim whether a police report is made.
  23. How utterly asinine. Agreed. This is where government fails us. I'm sure these are automatically generated, but there has to be someone with a brain putting a stamp on the envelope. The City doesn't use stamps. The mail is metered. I get the point, but I would bet that Flask did not even know the letter was sent until the backlash over it was made public. He is in charge of the entire Department of Public Safety (Police, Fire, EMS, Port Control) and cannot review individual letters which go out in his name in accordance with some automatic trigger. This is one of those situations where the City taking a proactive has unfortunate consequences. Personally, I'm glad to hear that the City has a program in place which puts bars on notice that they are potentially creating a nuisance, even if it does result in the occasional head-scratcher. Aren't we always complaining that the City is not proactive enough, or is that only when the bar fits a certain model?? Considering that this most recent incident was not part of the equation triggering the letter, why were the police called so many other times to this bar?
  24. Not only that.... the Browns play on Sundays when most people are not working. They were driving me crazy on WTAM yesterday discussing this issue, trying to blame it on population loss. We all know the City proper has lost a significant amount of people, but the County has not lost all that many from when we sold out every game, and more importantly, the "TV market" may actually have grown. There are a multitude of reasons the Indians are not drawing crowds, but I think frustration with the lack of a competitive balance in baseball is right up there on top. Cleveland is just the tip of the iceburg for MLB if they don't do something to fix the lack of parity. The league is already fighting a less than appealing in-game experience considering the steadily improving experience of watching a game at home, and definitely the lack of TV blackouts.
