I can only imagine the reaction if the attacker's identity had not been uncovered. Goes to show things are quite often not remotely close to what initial suspicions would be

Bess was used as the hot route much more in the second half. I don't know for sure if that was on the coaches or Weeden, but hot routes are usually determined by the coaches. QBs like Peyton Manning adjust them at the line, but he is on a level unseen in our times for doing that. I agree that Gordon is a necessary component. Benjamin can't cut it as our only threat beyond 15 yards. I watched part of the game again and it just appears that Weeden needs to relax and get back to the mindset that this is a GAME. He is supposed to be having fun. He is too tight. That said, Miami's pressure was unreal. I originally thought that Weeden didn't have plenty of time, but did have sufficient time to get his throws off. Not true on too many occasions. Miami's rushers were getting to him before his recievers had much time to even develop a route, let alone enough time to step forward in the pocket. Given that he is somewhat lacking in the quick feet department, we are going to have to make some adjustments in blocking schemes. It appears that not keeping a blocking FB might have been a mistake.

Has the bar owner, who has been very vocal about this incident, given even the slightest hint that this might be extortion? I don't think so. Let's not make this into something more than it really is. Outrageous rumors like that get started in internet forums just like these. People read these pure speculations, and regardless of there being nothing to substantiate the claims, they get treated as fact a week or two later when the reader can't remember if he/she heard it on the TV news, read it in the paper, or some other arguably credible source. In fact, that is probably what happened with the Goonies and this protection racket claim. Did you not have any of the specifics on that?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I recall some coverage of the their several month long terror campaign in the neighborhood where Central and Slavic Village come together. I had a friend living over at the Hyacinth lofts at the time this was either going down or the case was being processed through the court system, or both.... so I took some interest in it. I remember them as a group of upper teens mostly preying on old women and young kids. There was also some acts of vandalism against neighbors who reported them to the police. I don't recall ever hearing about anything close to a 'protection racket.' Which businesses, specifically by name, were 'forced' to pay for this 'protection'? Or are you just referring to young kids being forced to give up their lunch money to avoid getting beaten up? When I think of a 'protection racket' I think of the model used by the mafia

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
It really looks like the Bucks put their hours in the weight room this offseason. Everyone seems to have bulked up and slimmed down in the right places at the same time. Noah Spence looks like he added that extra 10 lbs he needed. Curtis Grant looks like a bodybuilder (he, in fact, might be a bit too bulky for his own good). Small guys (relatively speaking) like Jordan Hall and Bradley Roby look a little thicker and more cut-up. He had a fumble in game 1, but I don't recall him playing poorly otherwise

Cleveland Browns Discussion
That pass was right where it was supposed to be. He had to throw it high enough to make sure the defenders couldn't swat it down but still low enough for Cameron to have a chance. There are a lot of things to knock Weeden for in this game, but criticizing a play that he actually executed fairly perfectly is not one of them.

You knew these kids? I don't know which insults "they" consider to be worse than others, but I think a group of kids standing outside a bar which makes no effort to conceal the fact that it is a gay bar who are calling the patrons "f#ggots" is a fairly open and shut case. There is 'jumping to conclusions' and then there is this. First of all, Cleveland does not have much of a gang problem. It has some gangs, but it is nowhere near what you see in other cities. For the gangs that do exist, they don't have 'turf' like you would see in other parts. And they certainly are not organized to the point of using the younger members as sacrificial lambs in an attempt to drive out a bar they do not want in their 'hood. To the extent there is a gang running this neighborhood, they would be utterly stupid to drive away a non-threatening and potentially highly profitable customer base.

Sorry to disappoint E Rocc, but clearly they were targeting the place because it was a gay bar based on the link you provided. There is nothing to indicate that race was a motivating factor, unless you are one of the people who believe that any crime between the races is motivated by race (that would include white-on-black crime as well). When you consider the establishment and what these kids were yelling, it is a clear cut case of attempted intimidation and assault based on sexual orientation.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I'm glad they are rightfully labeling it a 'hate crime'. I wonder, however, what law they are using. Ohio's hate crime laws are very vague and particularly non-specific when it comes to sexual orientation. I'm also not surprised that these early teen "thugs" ran away like a bunch of girls when the patrons started after them. Like I always say, they act a lot tougher than they are. BTW, "Cocktails Lounge"? :)

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Tell us how you really feel about the guy ;) While Weeden can certainly work on his touch on short passes, NFL recievers are supposed to catch anything that hits them on the hands. ANYTHING. This is the NFL, not high school. On two of those picks, we would have been better off with the recievers just letting them sail. It was their tips which allowed for the picks. I was watching SF-GB last night, and it was just mind-boggling how much both teams' recievers help their QBs out, by not just holding onto anything that is thrown within the target area, but also fighting the DBs for position and forcing their way to the ball. Boldin must've made 5-6 catches which were far less than ideal throws.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Crap I've been saying for years that the Browns need to upgrade their stock of stickum. Two of Weeden's picks were off his receiver's hands. The defense had a trifecta (Robertson, Haden, Ward) of dropped INTs. It's plays like those that create those crucial swings in momentum. I'm disappointed, but not dejected. Gordon is a huge part of this offensive system. If they look like this when he gets back, then I will start looking at 2014 mock drafts.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
You can expect to see a whole lot more of Trent Richardson. 30 touches easy (or else something went wrong....... or we blew them out). Here's what I'm gonna be looking for: DEFENSE -Can we effectively and consistently get to the QB? -How many TFLs do our LBs get? -Can the CB opposite Haden make the Dolphins pay for picking on him? OFFENSE -Is Weeden making quick reads, hitting his receivers in stride, and not getting rid of the ball too late? -Is our OL getting decent 'push' on our running plays? -Can Benjamin fill the void left at 'deep threat' with the suspension of Gordon?

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Isn't the mall manager and owner the same thing in this case? Both FCE? Most likely, although neither is technically "FCE". Forest City Enterprises is a large, vertically organized conglomerate of around 500-1000 corporations at any given time. One will own the mall and another will manage it. For instance, FCE's rental properties usually each have a separate 'owner' (usually in the form of a limited partnership, with the name of the complex somewhere in the corporate name) and are managed, mostly, by Forest City Residential Mgt., Inc. This is all done to minimize liability, but the paper trail always goes back to the 50 Public Square HQ's.

Not really. With the Stanley, you had co-ownership. Here, Weston does not have a stake in the building (yet). Plus the co-owner of the Stanley is not comparable to Weston. They didn't have the means/resources to get the job done. Similarly, while I'm sure L&R is fine with the idea of making the parcel into a surface lot, it does not have the same burning desire to see the building demolished as the Casino folks had with the Stanley. It's a very different situation. What concerns me is that Weston is a very calculated development team. They won't take any chances. They seemingly feel they have to get the drastically better end of any deal to make anything happen.

Is it possible that people are confusing the green ribbon planned for the Clinic (on the south side of Euclid and mostly behind the street facing buildings) with CSU's plans for a green ribbon?

I would've assumed that brick would provides a better sound barrier than drywall, which can vary depending on the thickness. The quality of the windows and the doors can also make a big difference. BTW, I note how you made "certain things" plural, but I won't let my imagination run wild

It's a game. If they are trying to dump a vacant building which is generating no income and, in fact, poses a potential financial liability in the form of violations and fines, their bargaining power is greatly reduced compared to trying to sell a parcel which they have the green light to put to a profitable use. In the end, they will get a far greater offer than whatever they pay their attorneys. If not, their attorneys are not doing a very good job. Weston is now approaching them saying, "look, you can't demolish the building because the City won't let you, and you don't have the will nor the means to repurpose it, so why don't we take it off your hands for this (bargain) price" They want Weston to have to say, "I know you have the wrecking ball scheduled, but we would like to buy the building from you and repurpose it ourselves.... name your price"

^And then a month for a response.... and then two weeks for a reply... and then 2-6 mos. (on average) for a decision.... and then another 2 years of appeals (at least). As long as the City sticks to its guns, a deal should be able to come together during that timeframe. Thanks for heading off the meltdown, Michelle.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Of course I do. But I see this outrage no matter whether the suspects are already in custody or not (i.e. "why aren't they showing the mugshots?!?!"). For the purpose of apprehending any suspects still at large, I fully support showing their pictures. For the purpose of showing their pictures to simply vindicate you that this is yet another crime perpetuated by black youths, I don't see the need. Absolutely. Which brings me back to my original question of whether there is any indication that the race of the victim (not the perps) played any role in the attack. If it did, then the hate crime would be for both racial and sexual orientation targeting. But if, as it appeared to me at first glance, these kids were simply looking to do some good ole' fashion gay bashing, then race has nothing to do with it. And I don't know why white gay men are at any more risk than black gay men. If anything, I would argue that black gay men might be more at risk of being assaulted due to their sexual orientation than their white counterparts.

Sandusky (2013)
Nice showing of parts of Sandusky you don't usually see or hear about. I've been out there twice this year after not visiting since I was a teen. In fact, the last time I went, the Magnum stuck out like the Sears Tower in the skyline of Cedar Point. Now, it is barely noticeable. In the early Spring, we took the kids for a long weekend at the (compound) Khalihari. Great times for a cold-weather getaway. Just a few weeks ago, I took my son and his little girlfriend to Cedar Point. I was happy to learn that I could still stomach a roller coaster, although I'm glad they weren't quite tall enough to force me to go on the Top-Thrill Dragster.... but we took on the Iron Dragon, the Mean Streak (ouch), the Magnum, the Gemini, and the Corkscrew.

Agreed on their presence being beneficial. Just take a look at the victim. No offense intended to him, but these punks picked an easy target, at least from a stereotypical perspective.... smal, glasses, a little effeminate, etc.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^I've seen this outrage about not showing the pictures of black suspects alot recently. Other than for pure chest-pounding and subjective vindication purposes, what would be the reason to point out their race? Is there anything to indicate that race (not sexual orientation) was the slightest motivating factor? (I haven't read all that much about it) I've easily, without the slightest exaggeration, talked to 100x more CPPA and FOP members from the CPD about this than you have. Guaranteed. If your sole point is that the support is stronger amongst the LT's and Captains, than it is from the Chief and AC's, well... you would be hard pressed to find a department not like that. Cleveland has a very strong civil service system. Although the right to do so is reserved by charter, the City has not diverted all that much from state law. The protections from discipline, suspension, removal, layoff, etc. and the rights of promotion, step-downs, and seniority are all much stronger than they are in most of the surrounding communities, which takes away alot of the leverage Flask/McGrath have when it comes to discipline. The cops know this. Curfew violation wouldn't count? I seem to remember being pulled over as a teen quite regularly in the suburbs for what could only have been curfew checks. Absolutely. But there is a difference between the cops asking for ID from an individual they 'reasonably suspect' is actually breaking curfew and the cops lining up a bunch of young looking people who might be violating curfew and asking them to show papers. "Possibly" does not equal "reasonable suspicion." In this particular instance, the more I read about it, the kids were probably a bit younger than I originally suspected and, as gottaplan pointed out, demonstrated other actions/behavoirs which called for some police intervention. I am all for strict curfew enforcement. I actually prefer citations which fine the parents as well as the kids. They are trying that in the Atlanta area now. But it can be a tricky game, particularly when you have a staggered curfew law like Cleveland's which, I believe, calls for the younger teens to be off the street by 9:30pm, middle teens to be home by 11pm and older teens to not be out past midnight.
