  1. I don't understand the urges of people to utilize false equivalencies. It detracts from your argument. Go ahead and argue that the logo is not offensive, but don't equate it to the ND or Wooster logos. Please. I don't get the history argument either. It's not like Chief Wahoo has stayed the same. If history was important, why not go back to the (more) offensive older version? In actual news, Commissioner Manfred and Dolan are planning to discuss the continued use of the logo - http://www.rollingstone.com/sports/cleveland-indians-mlb-to-discuss-chief-wahoo-logo-w448512
  2. Assuming we get Brantley back next year, what does the lineup look like? Brantley - CF/LF Kipnis - 2B Lindor - SS Santana - DH/1B Napoli/????? - DH/1B Ramirez - 3B Chisenhall - RF Almonte/Naquin/Guyer/Crisp/Davis - utility OF Gomes/Perez - C Does that seem about right? I'm hearing doubts that Napoli will be back. We will need another big bat (preferably a right-hander) to placehold until this Bobby Bradley kid is hopefully ready in another season or two.

After the Indians run in the 90's was over and the emergence of the Yankees, Red Sox, and other huge payroll teams, I became so frustrated with the lack of parity in baseball that I lost a lot of love for the game. I was a total bandwagon hopper this year, not really becoming familiar with the team until they were well on their way to winning the Red Sox series. I'm looking forward to next season. I may have rediscovered my enjoyment of watching baseball as a kid. It will probably never eclipse basketball or football for me, but it's definitely back on my radar.
  4. I think the discount only applies to Cleveland residents (EDIT: I guess I'm wrong here) Group discounts are available, but you need something like 15-20 people. If you have a AAA membership, there might be a discount available there.

I'd take Jabrill Peppers. Stud from Day 1 at Michigan. He has as much to do with that program's turnaround as Harbough. Guaranteed he will have a good NFL career.

I'm not betting against Kluber. I think he seals the deal tonight and takes home the World Series MVP. Definitely need to sit Naquin. I don't care what the matchup calls for. He was awful last night. Even if he thought Chisenhall had that ball, he still needs to keep his eye on it to back him up. He also struck out badly with the bases loaded. He crumbled under the bright lights. Sit him down and use him as a pinch runner late in the game if necessary.

I have been saying for at least two seasons that you can't run a defensive scheme which depends on your LBs making plays if you don't have any play-making LBs. Now go out and get me an ILB who can make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage.
  8. ^I agree. It will be nice to hoist the trophy in front of the home crowd.
  9. Umps make bad calls, but that called third strike on Guyer was a crime. It wasn't even close. I don't like Bauer against a team like the Cubs because he doesn't keep the ball down. In fact, he relies on the high heater, which power hitting teams eat alive.

I think the Warriors are really going to miss Bogut. Although he was not part of that "death lineup", he was a key component of their defense. His absence was key to us winning the finals as it opened the driving lanes for LeBron and Kyrie. The Cavs are now deeper than the Warriors, who are more top heavy. We still need to figure out the backup PG, but everything other part of the puzzle seems to fit. I don't expect Dunleavy to score much for us, but his length and basketball IQ allow us to use him in so many different ways. TT has really embraced his role at C. LeBron looks (or at least looked last night) like he is aging in reverse. I only see one accomplishment left for him, which is to average a triple double. I doubt it will happen, but if he goes for it, look for Kyrie and KLove's scoring to go up. LeBron might actually finish third on the team in PPG.

You should've tried just walking into Etna. I bet they would've found you a table.
  13. The night Cleveland ruled the sports world This is what it looks like when a city finds true love after a lifetime of sports heartbreak: Strangers high-five and hug one another. Hardened cynics find themselves wiping away a stray tear. Fans young and old don goofy costumes and paint their faces, dancing to live music in the cool night air; friends and family snap countless selfies, trying to freeze frame a memory. Thousands of people show up on a cold and windy night, with or without tickets, just to laugh and cheer and soak up the joy of a moment that, even a year ago, would have seemed absurd. For a few hours on Tuesday, downtown Cleveland was the center of the American sports universe. Inside Quicken Loans Arena, the Cavaliers raised a banner and slipped on their championship rings for the first time, then thumped the Knicks 117-88. Barely 100 yards away, the Indians hosted -- and won -- Game 1 of the 2016 World Series, beating the Cubs 6-0. It was a historic night for a city that once seemed would be forever cursed with disappointment, and nowhere was the suddenly surreal optimism more evident than in the giant courtyard between Quicken Loans and Progressive Field. It felt like a party 50 years in the making, a symbolic celebration for a city that's quietly thriving after years of being the butt of jokes. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17889262/cleveland-indians-cavaliers-host-renaissance-mirrors-modern-cleveland

Anyone watching Atlanta? I have a co-worker that is loving it.

Great start to the season, on a night when rings were passed out and the championship banner hung, by whoopin' the Knicks by 29 points. Kyrie was dominant in the third quarter. LeBron looks a bit heavier to start this season than the last two, but hasn't lost a step. He seemed very 'bouncy', throwing down monster dunks and swatting shots. K Love was very aggressive and assertive, although his shot was a little off to begin the game. For icing on the cake, the Warriors got pounded on their home court by SAS, losing by the same margin - 29.
  16. Keeping Kluber under 90 pitches was a major plus. He can now hope to start games 4 and 7 (if necessary).

^^^^I don't know about economic impact and wasn't addressing that issue with my 'anecdotal' evidence based on first hand knowledge. Of course, baseball has twice as many home games in bigger stadiums. The Cavs sellout all of their games. The Indians average about half attendance, but due to twice as many home games and nearly twice as many seats, have nearly twice the total attendance. So the impact on the downtown impact is probably larger based on that alone, and could be even more significant if the attendance went up (like it probably will next year). Then there also is the consideration that baseball is played in the summer, for the most part, whereas basketball goes right through the heart of winter. People coming to Cavs games are probably more likely to park in the garage and take a walkway straight into the arena That said, the Cavs are more of a regional draw (and can even be an international draw). Anecdotal evidence aside, common sense leads to that conclusion. Terry Pluto does a good job of explaining it in this piece - http://wksu.org/post/terry-pluto-cavs-fan-base-reaches-well-beyond-northeast-ohio#stream/0. The prestige of the Cavs and LeBron and Kyrie, and the impact that has on the local economy, can't really be quantified. If you travel and say you are from Cleveland, people are probably most likely to know of the City because of LeBron and the Cavs, not the Indians, not the RRHOF, not the burning river. I don't know if that impact can be quantified. You don't see celebrities flying in to go the Indians games, that much is certain.
  18. Urban builds his teams to win bowl games in Florida, Texas, Cali, etc., not to win a cold and rainy night game in Happy Valley. Tressell took the opposite approach.

There are a few which stand out. Raiders and Eagles fans might be a category all to themselves. But not too far behind would be Browns, Bears, and Steelers fans. All are obnoxious to a certain extend.... and are somewhat proud of it. It's like they have a rep to protect. I refuse to go to Browns Stadium with anyone wearing another jersey... even if it is a team we are not playing or not even a rival. I've seen the mess that causes.

I wouldn't go that far. Southwest Ohio is indifferent on the Cavs; I'm presuming NW Ohio is for the Pistons, historically. Columbus and eastern Ohio are certainly Cavs markets. What they're not indifferent on is the popularity of Lebron James, several Buckeye fans in SW Ohio are probably(and from my experience are) Cavs fans because of the Lebron factor. Correct. LeBron greatly expanded the fanbase. The Cavs had some good teams, but never had a superstar before him. Whenever a family from Pa. or NY or Wva sat beside me, the kid (usually a boy between the ages of 5-15) would be decked out in LeBron gear. Kyrie has also helped greatly. I'm not sure if any Cavs player before those two ever had a commercial which aired nationally. I was in Toledo/Bowling Green during the Cavs playoff run and the amount of Cavs gear around there was shocking.

Currently, baseball is NOT more popular than basketball, however, the prestige of the MLB playoffs and World Series will always run further than the NBA finals/playoffs. Mostly because its so hard to make the MLB playoffs and its a historic event. 16 teams make the NBA playoffs and it seems to run for months. The younger generations prefer the NBA and the image of the NBA is actually very high right now. Baseball is trying to appeal to its younger generations and is struggling with that currently. I believe the NBA finals game 7 had 32 million viewers, thats 1/3 of a typical super bowl audience. Pretty remarkable. I dont believe the World Series will get that high, but maybe because of the cubs it will In addition to that, the Cavs (especially with LeBron), have a much larger geographical fan base. There are no NBA teams in Cincy, Pittsburgh and Buffalo. While those City's may not be loyal to the Cavs, the inbetween areas (Columbus, Erie, Youngstown, etc.) don't have the same split allegiances we see in NFL and/or MLB. When had season tickets for the Cavs, the seats next to me were routinely occupied by folks from WVa, western NY, central Ohio, etc.

I love Etna in Little Italy. http://etnalittleitaly.com/ It's not as fancy as MA's, but the food is probably closer to what you are looking for. Bottom of the hill, across from the park. If your sister lives in a high rise in Lakewood, I assume she is in a building on the Gold Coast. If you are looking for great food, a fantastic view and atmosphere, and have some $$$$ to burn, you have to check out Pier W http://pierw.com/ Other spots to visit would be the Coventry, Cedar-Fairmount, or Lee Rd. districts in Cleveland Heights, probably in that order of priority. Coventry and C-F are only a hop, skip and a jump from LI. You also can consider going to any of the Metroparks, including Edgewater, but the weather forecast is not looking good for the beach.
  24. I'd rather face the Cubs. First, I want to avoid Kershaw. Second, if we lose, at least another long-suffering fan base will have exorcised its demons. Third, if we win, another long-suffering fan base will keep on suffering.
  25. Cleveland's orthodox communities probably erase any other losses. They reproduce in large quantities it seems. Every family I see walking down Taylor or Green has like 5 kids
