IMHO, this question has special application to Cleveland, with the eastern boundary being the Cuyahoga River..... if there has to be a specific boundary.

^^^Why did you take it as a stereotype of right-wingers?
  3. I saw The Boss perform this live on Mall B here in Cleveland a few years back. One of his more underrated songs, for sure. He sings it from the heart

This. Big Time. People claim to hate the "games", but if you don't play them you rarely if ever win. Nice guys sleep alone. Sad but true.

I believe (but have not confirmed) that it is not as easy as simply renting an apartment in the City. I think you have to be a "bona fide resident". That means your Cleveland home has to be your true residence..... your domicile. Its not a 'domicile' if you have dual residency. When the residency law for municipal workers was still in effect, the City used to fire its employees when they would move their families to the burbs and 'rent' a third floor of a house or some tiny apartment in the City as their 'official' residence but not really live there. I also think that there is a requirement that your bona fide resident be legitimate for some period of time (2 years?) before you can be certified for the ballot. Employees used to have to move to the City within 6 months of hire, but I believe officials have to live in the City for some contiguous period of time before seeking office. It prevents outsiders from seeking office and then only moving to the City if they are elected.

Agreed on Jackson's personality. But what can you expect from someone who runs the City like an accountant would. I'm just surprised the fiscal conservatives are not touting him more considering the miracles he has worked with the budget year after year in office. I like Lanci. But I fear that he may cater to the old boys club here in the City much the same way Dimora and Co. did. Does Lanci even live in Cleveland?
  7. I'm not aware of any 'more serious charge' for hitting a bouncer. Are you suggesting it has some special application such as assault on or in the presence of a police officer? Maybe what you were suggesting is that the cops are more likely to believe the bouncer's side of the story? I get that. When I worked the door at a bar back in my college days, all I usually had to do was point to the drunk a##hole I had just thrown into the parking lot and his interaction with the cops would take care of the rest. The police report very vaguely noted "pain in chest"....... which leads me to believe he pushed a bouncer in the chest. Bouncers are more than willing to trump up the charges on those people who put their hands on them

David - you descrive the guy as sweet, sensitive, hipster, who might have a fake girlfriend. Have you considered the possibility that he is gay? Given your complaints, I suppose it wouldn't matter. But if he really is secretly in love with your GF, here's what you do. Be extra affectionate to her around him..... egage in the most obscene type of PDA your GF can stomach in his presence. If she resists, you may have cause to be suspicious. But if she goes along, and he is in fact lusting after her, it will drive him crazy and, more importantly, make him not want to be around you two.
  9. It really sounds like all Roby did was push a bouncer. I don't expect him to miss any time. The frosh OL who got sent home for the year is no big loss. He was likely to get redshirted anyway.

As a man of color, I do not understand how a white man could ever make a statement like this? The reason I say that you're not of color nor have you hade to live as a person of color in our world. We as people of color live in a white world. You probably don't understand that, just as I don't understand what you wrote. You're taking that tone with the wrong "white man", cupcake. I know more than a bit about living as a minority. If you think Garden Valley is a fine place to take a walk, more power to you. I was simply pointing out that my unwillingness to walk around those neighborhoods (in response to the OP's question) has less to do with my skin color and more to do with the fact that they just aren't safe..... for anyone, any race (especially non-residents). Pumpkin, I honestly do not understand. I dont think you're racist by any means. I honestly do not understand the way you wrote it. The OP asked if there was "places you avoid because of your race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation." I listed a few neighborhoods and then.... after thinking about it..... realized I probably wouldn't want to go in those neighborhoods regardless of what race I was. So, I suppose, my answer SHOULD have been that I can't think of any neighborhoods I wouldn't want to go in simply due to my race because I would avoid those areas regardless of my race

^I don't know how he is coming up with that list. Warrensville Hts and Euclid are on it. There are quite a few neighborhoods in the Cleveland Metro I wouldn't want to walk down the street as a white guy...... come to think about it, I wouldn't want to walk around those neighborhoods as a black guy either. Specifically, pretty much anything north of Euclid Ave in East Cleveland and the areas around any of the public housing projects in Cleveland proper. Little Italy was essentially off-limits for blacks for quite some time. That has changed, but I still have friends who refuse to go there. Bratenahl used to be a place that blacks had concerns of being profiled by the police.
  13. Word is that Carlos Hyde has been kicked off the team. He allegedly punched a girl in a nightclub. That sucks because I thought he was going to have a big year, but if the allegations are true, I'm glad Meyer immediately dismissed him. The saving grace is that we are ridiculously deep at tailback with Rod Smith, Brionte Dunn, Warren Ball Jr., and a frosh who I think is gonna be a stud - Ezekiel Elliot. There also is Jordan Hall returning from injury, but I think the coaching staff had plans for him to play in the slot.

^^Such as? I would've put Blazing Saddles and the Pink Panther movies in there, but we excluded slap-stick comedies. I'm open to suggestions of what to check out, but am probably not interested in anything from your generation...... I never had much interest in silent films.

Bringing this back because my friends and I were debating our top 10 lists for funniest movies of all time. We took slap-sticks out of the equation (so no Blazing Saddles, Pink Panther, Airplane, Naked Gun, etc). Those are hard to compare to the other comedies. Here was my (very loose) list: Animal House MASH Hangover The Big Lebowski Old School Slap Shot There's Something About Mary Trading Places Step Brothers Super Troopers Friday

The fact is that virtual nobody is pure blood anything. Take the Italians for example. People claim to be "Italian" in ethnicity, but chances are they are a mosh-posh of different ethnicities given the movement and trade around the mediterranian, with influences from the middle east, northern Africa, and other parts of Europe. Both of my wife's parents immigrated from Greece. That would mean her ethnicity is Greek, right? But if we trace her ancestry, we can find roots in Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, etc. My Dad's family came over three generations ago from various parts of the former USSR. Whether they were from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Poland, we are not sure. I always assumed I was 1/4 Irish because my mom's father claimed that as his ethnicity. Turns out, however, that only his dad was Irish and his mother was from the Canary Islands.

^That is simply a matter of self-identification. To the extent you intend it to mean that you have melted into the pot, that is the case with most people who are not 1st or 2nd generation Americans. And it certainly can't be limited to white people. What about the mixed race Americans? Their ethnicity is more unique to this country than any white person. If your white, you might not know from where, but chances are 100% or damn near of your ancestry traces back to Europe. For those southerners contemplated by that map, I would strongly suspect that the ancestry is specific to western and northern Europe.

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=sarcasm But, if you want to be super technical, the uniTED STAtes of AmERica is never specified in the song. It is a song about loving this 'land' and not wanting it to be negatively affected by overseas conflicts.

It's official. Bynum signs 2 year deal. He will wear #21. Says he currently weighs 305lbs.... we need to make sure him and Dion both stay away from the buffets. http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2013/07/cleveland_cavaliers_andrew_byn.html#incart_special-report
  24. I don't think the police would hesitate to arrest any rioters. But when was the last "riot" in Cleveland? Certainly not at the Coventry Street Fair or any of the festivals..... at least not how I would define a riot. Multiple fights do not make a riot. As far back as I can remember, there were always fights at public festivals, especially amongst youths. The growing problem today is this burning desire of uninvolved youths to want to see AND FILM the fights. 99% of these kids who show up at the events and push their way through the crowd are not there to fight themselves. You see 2 or maybe a few more kids fighting and 100 kids standing in a circle around them with their cell phone cameras filming the entire incident (resulting in video which later gets posted to youtube and other video hosting sites). My concernn is how to deal with them, since there can be no question that the ones actually throwing punches will be apprehended and charged if at all possible.
  25. The idea of a paid entrance fee has been discussed. I don't know why it wasn't implemented. This chaos organized by social media is becoming more and more common accross the country. I'm thinking some special laws need to be carefully written to deal with it. First Amendment protection is waived when you use speech for the specific purpose of inciting violence and panic. Euclid has high municipal income tax rates but ridiculously low property tax rates. It probably balances out.
